Advantages: cheap
Disadvantages: runny
I always buy my shampoos and conditioners when they are on offer as we seem to get through a lot of each in our house. For this reason I decided to buy the Alberto Balsam range last week as there was nothing suitable on offer that compared to the price of these.
I chose the raspberry flavoured one because I know I like raspberry and it's also suitable for normal/dry hair which is what I need.
This really is the budget end of shampoos as the 400ml bottle is only 98p and that's without any offers attached.
The packaging is nothing to get excited about but it's in a clear bottle and you can see the colour of the shampoo before you even open the bottle. There is a half label attached which described the product and contains the necessary ingredients.
The lid I'm pleased to say is easy to open and is designed in the way of a flip lid. These are very easy to open and close with wet hands.
Opening the shampoo for the first time, I was greeted with a lovely subtle raspberry aroma. It smelled really sweet and inviting.
After wetting my hair, I poured out a good dollop onto my hand. It's quite a runny shampoo but being quite cheap I didn't expect much else.
The shampoo lathered up extremely well on my hair. I think my first application I put a bit too much on my hair as I was rinsing for ages to clean my hair of all soap suds.
I massaged the shampoo into my scalp for a couple of minutes to ensure I got good coverage, and this just increased the bubbles I was creating. My hair was feeling fairly soft through all this and it was creating a nice smell as I massaged.
As mentioned it did take a while to make sure all the suds were gone from my hair, but when my hair was lather free, it felt clean enough and there was no sticky feeling left in my hair that I have been experiencing with other products lately.
The aroma sadly doesn't last too long on my hair, even with using the matching conditioner; my hair had no smell a couple of hours after drying.
My hair did however feel averagely ok and this was good enough for me as it proved the product worked and that is essentially what I need from a shampoo.
I will definitely be re buying this shampoo when there is nothing else on offer, especially the way my teenage daughter goes through shampoo.
Alberto Balsam compares well to some of the more expensive shampoos out there on the market. The only ways you can tell they are from the cheaper end of the market is by noticing that the shampoo is runnier than normal, and that the packaging is basic.
Summary: a great budget shampoo

- 20/10/08 I always buy this when nothing else is on offer, and it's quite good but if I use it over a long period of time i find it makes my hair a bit dull. |
