Advantages: Smells gorgeous, fresh and clean hair, cheap, big bottle

Disadvantages: Absolutely none

My Lush shampoo bar finally ran out the other day. I can't complain because I've had it for AGES but it left me in a bit of a pickle as the Lush store in my hometown just closed and online Lush shopping can end up being a bit expensive, for me at least as I have little self-control in such situations!!

So while browsing in Tesco for something to tide me over until I can stock up on some more bars in a store, I spotted a shampoo I used to love and use regularly and picked that, as besides smelling great it is only 98p for a large 400ml bottle!

Alberto Balsam may be budget compared to major haircare brands but, as the bottle claims, they use the same ingredients as they do, and I can believe it! We all know how high the markup is for beauty products can be and as I'm not at all fussy about my hair I would be perfectly happy to try a shampoo for two pence if I could find one!

The bottle I bought, Sun Kissed Raspberry, claims to be for normal/dry hair. This is not my hair type at all. If anything, I lean more towards greasy hair but as I was my hair regularly I figure it's not such a big deal, and if anything I would rather have something that will moisturise my hair somewhat than strip it. Despite the fact it's not ideal for me according to the bottle, it doesn't make my hair any more greasy than normal. So there's my number one haircare tip - buy whatever smells nicest!

And the scent is really the selling point here, for me at least. When I used to use this regularly I got countless compliments on how great I smelled, and I have to say I'm looking forward to getting some more! I'm not so sure what "Sun Kissed" smells like, but this sure does smell like raspberry, a lovely sweet, but not sickly, fruity scent which stays on the hair an incredibly long time. I often find I can't smell my shampoo unless I actually sniff my hair, and even then not always. With this it seems to waft around me in a lovely raspberry cloud!

The shampoo itself is a bright pink gel, which is fairly runny and lathers reasonably well into the hair. It's been a while since I used a liquid shampoo having had my shampoo bar for ages which lathers incredibly easily, so it was a little more work, but definitely average in terms of bottled shampoos. Once worked into the hair it rinses out very easily and leaves the hair soft and squeaky clean. I find I am able to go 2-3 days before I wash again, which is average for me but I don't feel I'm getting to the desperate stage by then, result!

A 400ml bottle of this shampoo is pretty big and should last a fairly long time, so I find it to be very good value. Sure there are supermarket own-brands even cheaper which do a nice job, but I am just addicted to sniffing my hair now and will definitely keep buying this for a while!

If you are looking for a shampoo for normal/dry hair, or like me just aren't fussy, you can do much worse than buying a bottle of this and having a summery scent following you around for a while! It is really every bit as good as premium brands but way more affordable, so for once something has done exactly what it says on the tin (bottle)! You can find this shampoo at most supermarkets, Boots etc for around a pound.

Summary: My old favourite rediscovered, and I'm so glad to be using it again!
