Advantages: Effective shampoo

Disadvantages: none

Alberto Balsam tea tree tingle shampoo is what I normally use on my daughters' hair and they really do seem to like it. The 400 ml bottles normally cost about £1 and usually in Tesco they has a four for £3 offer which means that I can combine buying the girls' shampoo with the apple variety that I like for my own. This is also a lot less expensive than buying many of the shampoos that are designed especially for children.

The main ingredients in the shampoo are tea tree and mint extracts which are intended to help promote healthy hair and scalp. Tea tree oil seems particularly good for this as it has the ability to kill germs, fight infection, and act as a triple antibiotic. I do think that, when I am applying this shampoo to my daughters' hair, I notice a strong medicinal type smell which makes me feel that it really is doing a good job of cleaning their hair. Having said that though, the smell is not unpleasant and my daughters seem to like it, although I do prefer the smell of my apple shampoo.

The shampoo comes in a 400 ml plastic bottle which is good for recycling. The shampoo itself is quite a vivid green colour which seems to appeal to both my girls. The consistency is reasonably thick making it easy for them to pour without too much coming out at one time. When the bottle is nearly empty it is best to stand it upside down so that you can get the last dregs.

It is possible to get a really good lather from just a small amount of shampoo even on my older daughter's very long hair. It lathers really well which makes you feel that it is doing a good job in the cleaning department. As with all shampoos we occasionally get some in my daughters' eyes but, although unsurprisingly they don't like it, it does not cause them too much bother.

The shampoo is also very easy to rinse out and it does not take much rinsing until all the residue has gone. Although the smell is quite strong at the time, afterwards you are just left with a lovely clean smell.

On the back of the bottle, it states that the shampoo does three things - it gently cleanses, it helps promote healthy hair and scalp, and it also strengthens with pro-vitamin B5. It is obviously very hard to determine whether it is actually does do these, but I can say that after washing and drying both my daughters' hair does look very clean, shiny and healthy!

I think that this shampoo is very good value as one 400 ml bottle seems to last for absolutely ages. As I said, I use it on both my daughters' hair and it really does seem to do a very good job and they seem to like it just as much as any of the children's shampoos that are on the shelves. That's why we are sticking with this shampoo and can definitely recommend it!

Summary: A good shampoo for all the family
