Advantages: cheap, didnt leave hair frizzy
Disadvantages: need to use a lot, hair wasnt very soft after use
I recently wrote about my experiences with VO5's Fade Defy shampoo, and now I will tell you about the matching conditioner, which I also used.
~What they say~
The conditioner is suitable for all coloured hair and 'the protein enriched formula restores the hairs condition so you get that shiny, vibrant, just coloured look for longer.' Like the shampoo it claims to lock in the colour for 5 times longer.
~Packaging~
Packaged in a red bottle similar to the shampoo, the main difference with the conditioner packaging, is that it opens from the bottom instead of the top. I found the flip-open lid of the conditioner was easier to open than the one on the shampoo which was quite difficult to open at times. One feature I noticed, is that the hole from which you squeeze the product out is star shaped, meaning that the conditioner, once dispensed, takes on a patterned form -almost like you get with a play-doh machine or when you pipe icing. I don't know if this was simply designed like that to stop the conditioner dripping out, but it got me thinking that it would be a great if they could design bottles with different shaped openings like that - imagine squeezing your conditioner out and it being heart shaped! Anyway, enough of my madness, and on to the product...
~Using it~
The white conditioner is not exactly runny, but neither is it as thick as a consistency as one might expect a conditioner to be. I found that it glided over my hair easily, but I needed to use quite a bit to coat my hair thoroughly, therefore meaning that the conditioner ran out faster than the shampoo did.
It has a smell similar to the shampoo - a strong, slightly floral scent with a hint of chemicals! I think the conditioner has a creamier sort of scent, and smells slightly nicer than the conditioner.
~Results~
Whilst this did untangle my hair, I wasn't overly impressed with how soft or conditioned it felt after use. I have quite thick hair, and found that it felt slightly coarse after user, and not as soft as I would normally expect from a conditioner. Appearance wise, I did think my hair looked quite healthy and wasn't dull, or frizzy as I have experienced in the past. Like the shampoo, I didn't find that it had really done anything to combat my fading colour.
~Price~
I bought this together with the conditioner for £1.99 in Boots when it was on a buy one get one free offer, however Wilkinsons sell it for 99p a bottle.
~Conclusion~
Whilst I would probably have described the Fade Defy shampoo as being satisfactory as it got my hair clean, I was a bit more disappointed with the results I got from the conditioner. I felt I had to use quite a lot of it, and it wasn't as thick as I would expect. It also didn't give me the softness or colour-protection it had promised to give, so I wasn't overly impressed, and wouldn't recommend it.
Summary: Try the shampoo, but leave the conditioner
