Advantages: Leaves hair shiny and sleek. Locks colour into hair shaft.
Disadvantages: Mild aroma.
As someone who regularly dyes her hair I am always on the lookout for prooducts that will enable the colour to last longer. My hair is quite dry, damaged and porous due to the over use of chemical treatments and styling products. This means that I tend to lose the colour from my hair more quickly - I have even seen my permanant dye colour seep into bubbly shampoo foam as I'm washing my hair! I therefore need a high quality shampoo and conditioner to combat this problem.
To me, my choice of hair conditioner is a little bit more important than what shampoo I use. This is because it is the conditioner that determines the overall managability and appearance of my hair. When I discovered the Alberto VO5 range I was eager to try it as it was a brand I had loved using and trusted as a kid.
The 'Fade Defy' range is made especially for all coloured hair and the product has a unique formula which locks the colour into the hair shaft. The packaging claims that this effect lasts "5 times as long" as normal conditioner. It states in little writing that the effects are more noticable on brown and red shades though, so if you are a blonde you might want to try their Absolute Blonde hair specific range instead.
The 'Fade Defy' conditioner comes in an average sized 300ml bottle which is designed with a simple to use flip style catch at the bottom of the bottle. This design is handy as it means the conditioner is always collecting at the dispensing hole and so is easy to dispense.
I find that I need to use a very generous handful to get full and even coverage through my long hair. The liquid is white and shiny like glycerin. It is neither too thick or too runny and doesn't drip as I apply it to damp hair. It has a mild, fresh and clean aroma that it not too overpoweringly flowery or perfumed, rather more just a little soapy. It feels a little greasy when applying but can be rubbed through the hair quite easily.
I like to leave it for a minute or so although there are no specific instructions which suggest doing this. It is easy to rinse off and I can immediately feel my hair is a lot straighter, more tangle free and ultra soft, even as I'm rinsing.
The conditioner does a great job in leaving the hair easy to comb through, soft but strong and very shiny. When dry, the hair has a glossy look and my damaged ends are remarkably sleek. There is not much smell remaining on the hair after it is has dried.
I always use this conditioner alongside the 'Fade Defy' shampoo as I feel the best result will occur if I use the products together. This is my favourite range on the market and I find it is a life saver in terms of correcting my unruly hair and most importantly, keeping my colour for longer! At approximately £1.99 a bottle this is affordable and really does what it promises!
Summary: A great conditioner that keeps coloured hair looking good for longer.
