Advantages: Gets hair clean, doesn't irritate

Disadvantages: I don't think it stopped my colour fading

I recently bought a bottle each of VO5 Fade defy shampoo and conditioner. My hair is naturally a dark blonde/mousy brown sort of colour, which I dye dark brown. I have been thinking of going back to a blonde colour, so havent dyed it in a while, but the dark brown is starting to fade, and I wanted something to keep the colour looking vibrant.

~What they say~

The front of the bottle states that this shampoo 'reduces colour fade for that just coloured look.' It says that 'Fade Deny technology forms a barrier inside each hair so it locks in the colour up to 5 times as long.' Sounds just what I needed...

~Packaging~

This shampoo comes in a red bottle, with a flip top cap, which opens from the side. Whilst this style of opening is more convenient than a twist top, I found that with this particular product it was quite hard to open the bottle - especially when you have wet hands.

~Using it~

The shampoo itself is a pearly white colour, and I have learned the hard way that you only need to use a small amount. The first time I used this I applied too much and was left with a lot of lather, which took a long time to rinse out.
It has a creamy, floral smell, which is not unpleasant, but has a slight chemically type scent to it.

~Results~

The shampoo left my hair clean and seemed to get rid of the build up of styling products that I use, with only one wash. It didn't irritate my scalp either, which I occasionally get with some brands. It didn't leave my hair frizzy either, as I have sometimes experienced with some previous shampoos.
As for stopping my hair colour from fading, I can't say that it worked for me. I can't say I have noticed my hair looking any brighter since I started using it, and in fact my hair colour is still noticeably fading.

~Price~

I bought this 300ml bottle for £1.99 in Boots whilst it was on a buy one get one free offer, however you can pick a bottle up for just 99p in Wilkinsons.

~Conclusion~

Although the shampoo got my hair clean and didn't irritate my scalp, I was disappointed that it didn't actually stop my hair colour fading as promised. I wouldn't mind using it again, after all it did it's job of getting my hair clean well, but if you are specifically wanting something to keep your colour from fading, I would suggest trying something else.
