“ Brand: VO5 / Type: Hair Spray / Texture: Gel / Hair type: permed / Suitable for: curly hair / What it does: brightens, „
My hair is naturally curly and often frizzy as well so I've always needed some sort of hair curl product to tame my frizz and to make my curls look that little bit nicer.
For Christmas Santa brought me Alberto's VO5 gel spray curl booster and, compared to some of Santa's usual small stocking fillers, it was the perfect gift and I really love it.
It comes in a tall thin dark blue 200ml plastic bottle and you can easily see that it is a curl booster as this is written in big letters on the bottle. It is meant to boost and lock in curls with a firm hold and it does effectively do this. To use it you push the pump spray at the top of the bottle with short even bursts, work it through with your finger tips or scrunch your hair and then style it as you usually do. It lifts your curls as well as de-taming any frizz. Make sure you spray it from fairly far away as otherwise the spray will only reach one part of your hair and it will make it quite hard and crispy, like the feel after using hairspray. Sprayed evenly and from a good distance and the curls will go very slightly crunchy but still feel smooth. The spray does last all day and keeps your curls defined and smooth but I occasionally top it up with a quick burst later on in the evening to just re-lift the curls a little. It also leaves your hair with a fresh and pleasant scent.
I later found out that Santa got my gift from Poundland which is brilliant value for this. I'm not sure exactly how much it would usually be but other VO5 products similar to this retail at around £2.50.
This is the best hair product for curly hair that I've used - it is brilliant at controlling frizz and creating defined and gorgeous curls.

This products a winner for thoses who want to keep their style intact, but dont want to use hairspray.
I have naturally curly hair, which if I don't use products on it becomes an untamable mop of frizz!!! Therefore I am always on the lookout for good products to tame my crazy hair!!
I did use a Boots own brand curl spray, which was ideal for my hair type, but this annoyingly got discontinued a few months ago, which then left me with the dilemma of which curl spray I should try next.. It is so difficult to know which one will be best for my hair, as you never can tell what it is going to be like by looking at the bottle alone, it is not until ive tried the spray that I know whether or not it will be suitable for my hair. This usually results in me spending a fortune on hair care products that I never use as they don't do the job that I want them to!!
After my usual curl spray was discontinued I decided to try Alberto VO5 curl boost, which is a curl scrunching spray. On the bottle it claims that it boosts and locks in curls and waves and also calms frizz. On the back of the bottle it claims that V05 delivers high performance, salon tested styling products that won't let you down and gives you the power to create, control and finish any style you want! I bought a 200ml bottle in Boots for approx £2.50, so it isnt one of the most expensive hair care products on the market.
It states this spray is perfect for scrunching curls and waves, provides long lasting support, boosts and enhances curls and waves, calms frizz, static and flyaway hair, and also helps protect from heat damage.
To use this product you spray short, even bursts onto towel-dried hair. Gently scrunch section by section or you can also use a diffuser to dry your hair. You can also use this spray to touch up tired curls, so if you just want to liven up your hair style, you can just apply a few squirts of this and scrunch your hair to give it a bit of extra body.
I didn't mind this product, as it did create nice curls, but I won't use it again. I feel that it left my curls quite hard and crunchy, a bit like hairspray. I personally don't like this look, I prefer my curls to be soft and bouncy.
'THIS OP IS ON A CURL BOOSTING GEL BUT NOT A GEL SPRAY' as said in the name of this product. ADVANCED Alberto V05 Power gel My hair is thick, wavy and curly and needs attention everyday. When it isn't being straightened or put up it needs bringing to life and this is why I use curling or boosting moose / gel. These are the three of my favourite products I use on my hair: * Salon Selectives Moose * L'Oreal Studio Line Moussing Curls * Advanced Alberto V05 Power gel I have been using Advanced Alberto V05 Power gel for around 3months now and I love it! The gel comes in a see through squeezy tube which I love because you can always tell how much you have left. There are transparant labels with directions and ingredients etc all around the tube. The bottle stands upwards with the lid at the bottom. The lid is a flip top one, application is therefore simple, quick and not too messy. The bottles is 75ml and lasts a reasonable time, not as long as the moose though. I use this product after I've used moose to lock my curls into place as the gel is quite sticky and can keep the curls bouncing. This gel isn't cheap but it is a reasonable price and you can often catch it on offer in Superdrug. The last time I bought this product, the whole Advance V05 range was on a 'BOGOF' offer. (Buy One Get One Free) So I ended up buying two squeezy tubes of gel for around £3 which I thought was great! I use this gel on my hair after washing it, I towel dry my hair until it is damp and then I add moose to boost my curls and bring them to life. I then blow dry my locks for a little while but not too long as my hair will go frizzy and then I add gel. This springs my curls into the perfect shape, the gel is sticky and keeps them in place very well. It says on the bottle, the gel does the following: *Creates curls in an instant *Boosts and locks curls into place
*Creates a great finish and controls hair *Adds definition and bounce to hair *Calms frizz *Helps to prevent damage from heated styling *Gives a long lasting hold It also mentions on the bottle some of the following things: "A gel that you can use to style with confidence" "Non - Greasy and Non - Sticky" "Inner strength, radiant shine" "Contains time relase vitamins" RECOMMENDED APPLICATION ========================= For CURLY HAIR: Apply a small amount of gel to damp hair and work through from roots to ends. Scrunch dry. For NON - CURLY HAIR: Apply a small amount of gel onto hair. Spread evenly through and put hair into rollers or curlers. After a fair duration, remove and then dry as usual. Seperate curls with an 'afro comb' I really like using this gel, it works really well with moose and it just gives the perfect finishing touch to your hairstyle. OR to get straight to the curling gel page: http://www.vo5.wzm.com.au/styling/ Some extra facts about Alberto V05 in general... *Alberto VO5 is the number one hair conditioner in the United States. *Alberto VO5 Hair Spray was the world¹s first crystal clear hair spray. *Alberto VO5 is named after the chemist Alberto who invented Alberto VO5 Conditioning Hairdressing. *VO5 stands for the 'five vital organic' emollients in the hairdressing. *The range became popular in the 1950s. In my never ending quest for the perfect hair product, (Hey you didn’t think I came by the name of Scattyredhead for my love of politics and other such associated topics did you?!) I have decided to write an op on one of the first ever products I used when I was first ‘permed’. As many of you will know, and most likely be thoroughly bored of by now (ho hum..) I am a real fan of hair products, shampoos with exotic ingredients, colours named after the stars in the universe and beyond, conditioners promising me Kylie Minogue..esque locks (Aussie conditioner op), and gels and serums that guaranteed no more ‘frizzies’. I am more than happy to spend my hard earned dosh on all manner of hair products and I have rarely been disappointed. But that I think, is because I do shop very carefully for such products always ensuring that it is suitable for my hair type as best I can. Little point in my purchasing ‘get blonder’ quick merchandise if it ain’t gonna work! VO5 power Gel Spray was one of the first such suitable products I splashed out on a few months after having my first perm, far to many years ago than I care to remember! There are several different strengths and ‘varieties’ within the Gel Spray range I opted for the Curl Booster one (deciding the wet look one was not really for me!) To distinguish between them, they all have different coloured tops, this one is purple. So if you are in a hurry it is a doddle to go in, grab the correct colour off the shelf and hope and pray that VO5 didn’t choose to change the colours since the last time you bought it. But then you would soon discover that if you ended up looking like a drowned rat just before that hot date! The description on the bottle reads as such: “VO5 Curl Booster spray combines the strength of a gel with the convenience and fine finish of a spray. Developed for professional hair stylists
for revitalising curls and adding lift, definition and support for naturally curly or permed hair.” Then follows four bullet points: ·CONTROLS FRIZZ ·LIFTS AND SUPPORTS CURLS ·PERFECT FOR SCRUNCHING AND BOOSTING CURLS ·STRONG HOLD FORMULA I can say with my hand on my heart that it truly does all the above and very well indeed. Although the lift and support bit gave me a bit of a giggle…when will they invent spray on bras, I wondered?!! You spray it on towel-dried hair in short bursts and then dry it as normal. Unless I am in a desperate hurry I always let my hair dry naturally and I am never disappointed with the result. All the while I was having my hair permed I used it to maintain the curls. This allowed me to go much further in-between perms, saving me small fortune! The last perm I had was at least 4 years ago and if you check out my piccie on my profile page, if you are brave enough! :o) you will see that I still have masses of curls, all defined by VO5!!!. Obviously this product will not work on dead straight hair but if you have wavy or curly hair and you really want to keep it that way then this is the product for you. It costs about £3 for a 200ml pump spray bottle and should last you ages, as you do not need to use a lot each time. It is excellent for defining the curls ensuring that you don’t end up with a ‘frothy’ mass on your head! It doesn’t really have a particular smell, but reminds me of that ‘hairdressery’ aroma! Not unpleasant and it doesn’t linger at all afterwards. I shall be using this for many years to come and unless I suddenly go ‘straight’ I doubt I will ever have to have my hair permed again, at least not this side of 80! Thank you for ‘perm’itting me (groan!) to off load another ‘hairy’ op on you! You are all too kind! Kazz x
