Advantages: It works!

Disadvantages: None

In my never ending quest for the perfect hair product, (Hey you didn’t think I came by the name of Scattyredhead for my love of politics and other such associated topics did you?!) I have decided to write an op on one of the first ever products I used when I was first ‘permed’.

As many of you will know, and most likely be thoroughly bored of by now (ho hum..) I am a real fan of hair products, shampoos with exotic ingredients, colours named after the stars in the universe and beyond, conditioners promising me Kylie Minogue..esque locks (Aussie conditioner op), and gels and serums that guaranteed no more ‘frizzies’.

I am more than happy to spend my hard earned dosh on all manner of hair products and I have rarely been disappointed. But that I think, is because I do shop very carefully for such products always ensuring that it is suitable for my hair type as best I can. Little point in my purchasing ‘get blonder’ quick merchandise if it ain’t gonna work!

VO5 power Gel Spray was one of the first such suitable products I splashed out on a few months after having my first perm, far to many years ago than I care to remember! There are several different strengths and ‘varieties’ within the Gel Spray range I opted for the Curl Booster one (deciding the wet look one was not really for me!)

To distinguish between them, they all have different coloured tops, this one is purple. So if you are in a hurry it is a doddle to go in, grab the correct colour off the shelf and hope and pray that VO5 didn’t choose to change the colours since the last time you bought it. But then you would soon discover that if you ended up looking like a drowned rat just before that hot date!

The description on the bottle reads as such:
“VO5 Curl Booster spray combines the strength of a gel with the convenience and fine finish of a spray. Developed for professional hair stylists
for revitalising curls and adding lift, definition and support for naturally curly or permed hair.”
Then follows four bullet points:

·CONTROLS FRIZZ
·LIFTS AND SUPPORTS CURLS
·PERFECT FOR SCRUNCHING AND BOOSTING CURLS
·STRONG HOLD FORMULA

I can say with my hand on my heart that it truly does all the above and very well indeed. Although the lift and support bit gave me a bit of a giggle…when will they invent spray on bras, I wondered?!!

You spray it on towel-dried hair in short bursts and then dry it as normal. Unless I am in a desperate hurry I always let my hair dry naturally and I am never disappointed with the result. All the while I was having my hair permed I used it to maintain the curls. This allowed me to go much further in-between perms, saving me small fortune!

The last perm I had was at least 4 years ago and if you check out my piccie on my profile page, if you are brave enough! :o) you will see that I still have masses of curls, all defined by VO5!!!. Obviously this product will not work on dead straight hair but if you have wavy or curly hair and you really want to keep it that way then this is the product for you.

It costs about £3 for a 200ml pump spray bottle and should last you ages, as you do not need to use a lot each time. It is excellent for defining the curls ensuring that you don’t end up with a ‘frothy’ mass on your head! It doesn’t really have a particular smell, but reminds me of that ‘hairdressery’ aroma! Not unpleasant and it doesn’t linger at all afterwards.

I shall be using this for many years to come and unless I suddenly go ‘straight’ I doubt I will ever have to have my hair permed again, at least not this side of 80!
Thank you for ‘perm’itting me (groan!) to off load another ‘hairy’ op on you! You are all too kind!
Kazz x

Actually, I've read that you can now buy what are effectively spray-on bras! Yes, seriously! :-)

I hope V05 still make this as I really do want to find something that will tame my unruly wavy hair into proper curls.

I spent years trying to tame my hair by blow drying it straight, but now I use products that encourage the curl. I even had perms when I didn't need them!

So this is a good product yes? Ok, I'll give it a go, but there are just so many products out there ;{}

Welcome back
