Having had my hair totally restyled and highlighted last week I was horrified on using my normal heat protector spray to find my newly cut hair literally frazzling in front of my very eyes - not good folks, not good!

Time for an ultra-rapid change then just in case it was a bad reaction between my newly coloured hair and my usual spritzing spray - but to what, I asked myself?

I had been using the same solution for a couple of years now so would not know where to start, until I thought about my best friend's switch to Alberto Culver's V05 Styling Spray which has been specially designed to help 'protect against damage from heat styling, reduces frizz, adds shine' with its 'heat defence technology'.

Sounded perfect for me then as I stood there in Morrisons amidst a bewildering array of hair care treatments - styling sprays such as this one - plus general toiletry products.

Priced at £2.42 it was definitely do-able; and if I didn't like it I knew a certain little teenage Goth-Eeeka daughter of mine, that would snaffle it up to protect her Emo fringe in an instant!

As far as the packaging went I liked it, a sexy radiant red with an opaque chunky plastic trigger spray, it was an easily grippable size for my little dinky hands to hold - whilst spritzing on the spray!

200 ml in size and boasting a 'new improved look', the main needs of mine had been listed on the front blurb alongside 'heat protect create' written sideways down the colourful canister...

The vast majority of the written info was printed on the back label, so I waited until I got home to read the directions, useful tips, etc at leisure (cuppa in hand, feet up on sofa more like it Rebecca, be honest!).
Having stayed at aforementioned friend's very recently, I had in fact used her V05 protector spray a couple of times (what's hers in mine...what's mine's my own so 'Gerroff it' being the state of play here!), and I must admit my hair did feel noticeably smoother on usage.

Now the first thing to be said if you are patriotic like me is that this brand is made in the UK (there's even a cute & tiny Union Jack flag emblem); and is advertised as the 'UK's No.1 Styling brand', which was something I didn't know there.

And my word is there a lot of hype on this particular bottle!

'V05 delivers high performance, salon tested styling products that won't let you down and gives you the power to create, control and finish any style you want! V05...for Vitally alive hair!'

Oh my word! Sounds super, wouldn't you agree, folks?

The paragraph below that explains how this heat styling spray works, by helping to protect against heat damage by hair dryers and heat-styling - including my straighteners of course - by activating a complex to make styling quicker, easier to reduce frazzle and static whilst delivering a 'frizz free shine'.

Containing amongst other ingredients Propylene Glycerol, Glycerin, Panthenol, and Amino Acids, it is easy to spot the chemicals that would react with the hair on usage to protect it when warmed through.

The milky white liquid is quickly absorbed onto the wet or dry hair it is to be applied to, before heating implements are used - and on reading the Limonene and Linalool extracts amidst the chemical additives list it is easy to tell where the almost shampoo-like fragrance comes from.
For myself I don't find the smell particularly nostril pleasing, but nor is it vile in odour.

I would have to say though I think V05 could have done better with the perfumed element of this particular product, so I will be harsh and deduct a star for that - as a pleasant finishing aroma is an important part of a hair care treatment for me personally.

As far as using this product goes I think it is excellent as a protecting styling spray, however.

Happily, I believe the Alberto Culver Company in Basingstoke have delivered the goods with this nourishing spray. My hair certainly felt smoother on zapping it all over before blow drying, and again when I spritzed my dry hair before styling with my straighteners.

To me there was a noticeable difference compared to styling my hair without protection the way I used to several years ago - as I was growing my hair out form a very short style to its now shoulder length look.
Shine is an important factor also for most consumers when using this type of merchandise also.
Again V05 definitely enhanced my colour by creating a sleeker finish; in addition it definitely wasn't as flyaway on starting to use this styling spray regularly.

*Also important to note that I have suffered no adverse reaction to my skin on using this liquid despite suffering with acute dermatitis*

I think it's safe to say I have found a new favourite protector pump action solution - so 4 silky, satiny Stars from me today - and thank you for reading my review!
