As a bit of a follow on from my Dove intense therapy review I have recently switched heat protection sprays to this VO5 styling spray in an attempt to put some life back into my poor dry coloured and heat damaged hair.

I have been using a small bottle of Charles Worthington heat defence spray but have found it to be a bit sticky and didn't seem to be doing much to help my hair back into a decent condition. I have eventually got round to searching the aisles in my local Boots for something a bit more inspiring that is going to help keep more moisture in my hair while I'm using my straighters.

I had a look around the shelves at the bewildering array of different products but being on a bit of a limited budget at the moment I wanted something that was going to be cheapish but that was a trusted brand that was going to be value for money (I thought this would be a bit of a tall order).

I've used the VO5 shampoos and conditioners before I had my hair coloured and found them to work quite well so the bright red bottle with spray gun applicator caught my eye and the price tag of £2.42 for a 200ml bottle seemed very reasonable.

I noticed that the spray is made in the UK and is not only a heat defence spray but a styling spray as well, 2 products in the one bottle seemed a bit of a bargain and with the blurb on the back of the bottle promising to deliver high performance, salon tested product that won't let you down, it seemed like a winner to me. I was a little dubious that the low price would mean that you would get low quality but I thought with the claims on the back of the bottle I'd give it a go.

I really liked the trigger spray on the top of the bottle as it covered my hair in a nice fine mist of spray and it was easy to reach the back of my head without too much effort, ensuring an even coating of protection. Some of the other spray's I've used in the past have had to be sprayed onto my brush first and crushed through to ensure a full coverage but this made it really easy.

It smells a little bit like shampoo, nice clean scent but not too heavy. It doesn't feel sticky of heavy once combed through but beware of using too much as this is also a styling spray and can end up being a bit sticky on dry ends if you spray on too much, I find 4 or 5 sprays more than enough for long hair.

I was really surprised by the results, I tend to use this kind of spray before using the hairdryer and again before I use my straighters but I didn't feel the need to use it twice, it really felt like it was conditioning and smoothing my hair without being heavy.

After I'd straightened my hair I noticed that my hair felt a lot smoother and nice and shiny, even the ends of my hair felt in better condition and not at all sticky. I also noticed that my hair seemed less frizzy, (it tends to get a little frizzy after blow drying as I suffer from breakage and dry hair which seems to get all over the place!!).

I was amazed that for such a small price that it would work that well, I would definitely recommend this to anyone that uses heat appliances on their hair.
