I recently bought some hair straighteners as i had my hair cut, styled and highlighted. I decided that from time to time i would once again like to straighten my hair. I know that using straighteners can be damaging to the hair and any sort of heat applied to hair can result in damage eg dryness, brittle hair and split ends.

I went looking around for a suitable product that would at least help to protect my hair. At the same time i also wanted to buy my daughter a product to protect her hair as she straightens her hair a bit too much!

I popped into Superdrug and found this Alberto V05 heat protect styling spray. This product is currently available there for only £4.49 for 2 bottles. The usual price for one bottle is £3.36. It wasn't the cheapest product available but it suited my needs and thought it would be worth trying. I would estimate that one 200ml bottle should last at least 3 months, depending on how often you use heat products on your hair.

The bottle appealed to me. It sounds silly how something as simple as the colour of packaging or bottles can affect whether you purchase it or not! This wasn't the only reason i bought it though! It comes in a lovely sort of Crimson red bottle with a largish pump action spray.

On the front of the bottle it says 'heat defence tecnology' and there are small pictures of a hair dryer, curling tongs and straighteners. The product claims to 'help protect against damage from heat styling, reduces frizz, adds shine'.

Other relevant onformation supplied on the bottle;

'Contains a heat activated complex to make styling easier and quicker'

'Provides long lasting frizz free shine'

How to use

You must spray plentifully onto wet/damp hair before blow drying and then straightening or styling with the heat appliance of your choice. The spray comes out almost like a mist and has a really pleasant light fragrance, a little sweet and flowery.

I have been using this product on my hair for about a month now and in my view it is working quite well. After drying/straightening my hair feels smoother and it really is a little shinier too.

I will recommend this product. I am not sure if there is any product that could actually totally protect your hair regarding heat damage but this one is helping!
