Alberto VO5 Hot Oil has been around for donkeys, but sometimes the old things are the things that work the best. I have greasy roots and dry ends so I always make sure not to apply this hot oil too near to my scalp.
These packs come in a box of four and cost just under £3. I use them about once per month and I use them to treat my hair if it is looking or feeling dry and brittle as I use a lot of heated appliances. The way these work is to use a little vial and heat it up in a cup of really hot water for five minutes, snap the top off then apply to wet hair – into washed hair though as it has to be washed afterwards.
I leave them on for about three to four minutes and then rinse off and then wash my hair. The longer you leave it on the better and I found that the hotter you manager to heat the oil then the better this product works.
These are little lifesavers for my hair and they really do restore my hair in terms of making it look in better heath and certainly not as dry as it was before. I don’t use these very often, just occasionally but they really do act as a bit of a face life for my poor old dry hair and they help to restore it and make it look in much better condition.
I do recommend them.
I was a little skeptical when I first heard about this because it's so cheap compared to similar products. I decided to give it a try though and have been really impressed. It's one of the most effective (and cheapest) hair treatments that I've tried - and trust me, I've tried a lot! It is recommended that this should be used once a week, but as I have quite dry hair (from straightening it everyday) which can tend to start looking quite dull very easily I use this at least twice a week.
Four 15ml tubes come in one pack and a pack retails at an average of £4.50. I buy mine from Boots and pay £4.29, which is such a bargain! It is also available from Superdrug as well as various online retailers including Amazon. The four tubes come in a square shaped cardboard box which has a blue colour scheme. There are easy to follow directions for use on the back as well as lots of information about what benefits the oil has when used on the hair. The tubes themselves bizzarely remind me of ice pops lol - they're transparent and made of a very thin plastic material. The yellow oil is visible and there's the VO5 logo on each tube as well as the product name.
VO5 say that the oil contains five natural oils and is ideal for colour damaged, course or brittle hair and claim that it strengthens and nourishes the hair and can help to reduce breakage. It also contains a UV filter, which apprently protects the vibrancy of colour treated hair. Another claim is that it is able to remove 75% more chlorine than shampooing alone which I find an advantage as I go swimming regularly. The oil is really easy to use and it only needs to be left on the hair for one minute. I always use mine when I'm in the bath and just put the tube in the bath water, giving it time to warm up. I apply it after shampooing and massage it all over my hair, focussing mainly on the ends as they can easily start to look dry and unkempt. The oil is obviously very runny with a smooth and light consistency, so it's very easy to spread over my hair.
I usually pour it onto the top of my head, leaving a small amount in the tube then work it through my hair, applying the rest to the ends of my hair. The first time I tried this method I thought I might end up with greasy roots but I didn't and I find this the easiest way to apply it as it's so runny. The texture is very oily and quite sticky as well and it does make my hair feel quite dirty, but seeing as I only need to keep it on for a minute this doesn't bother me. It smells okay and isn't as overpowering as some of the other hair treatments that I've tried in the past but it's not an amazing smell - it is quite perfumed which is subtle enough but a little chemical-like. The smell doesn't linger though. Once I've left it on for a minute I then wash it out. As soon as I wash it out my hair feels amazing - really soft and smooth. I then shampoo and condition my hair and once out of the bath I blowdry and style it. My hair always looks noticeably shinier and healthier after using the oil and it feels silky soft and smooth. My hair stays like this until I next wash it, which is usually every 2-3 days.
Recently I went to get my hair cut. This did not go well. I am currently trying to grow my hair, but the hairdresser said to me that my hair was in really bad condition and I should have it cut into a bob to get rid of the split ends before trying to grow it again. I really didn't like the resulting haircut (not because a lack of skill on the part of the hairdresser, I should add, but because I didn't like it on me). However, I had to acknowledge that she was right about the condition of my hair. It was so bad that it was breaking off at the ends. I wash, dry and straighten it every day, and I also colour it, so no wonder. I resolved to treat my hair better in the hope of growing it properly. Immediately after my haircut, I popped into my local Boots and bought a Tangle Teezer hairbrush (on which more later) and some VO5 Hot Oil.
This product, which is designed to repair damaged hair, has been around for years - I remember that it came out when I was a teenager. I've never actually tried it, but if it's been around this long, it must be good - right? In any case, a pack of 4 tubes (each 15ml tube does 1 application) was on offer for only £2.71 (normal price £4.07). I thought the product was certainly worth trying at this price.
The outer packaging seems to have been revamped recently. The four sachets come in a white box with a pink border to match other VO5 products, and the box bears the "nourish me truly" slogan. I personally think this slogan, and the others in the range, sound a bit stupid, but never mind!
This product is described as an elixir with 5 natural oils. You are meant to use it on the hair for 1 minute once a week, and it repairs everyday damage. The tubes are clear plastic and you can see the golden-coloured oil inside.
As instructed, I used it in the shower on wet (but not yet washed) hair. The first problem was heating it up. You are meant to heat it either in a cup of hot water or in the shower itself. Now my bathroom is on the second floor and the kitchen is in the basement - no way am I walking up four flights of stairs to bring a cup of hot water to the bathroom. I resorted to the latter method, but the oil never seemed to heat up properly.
It's easy enough to twist and remove the top of the tube. The oil itself is quite runny and you have to watch that it doesn't run through your fingers. However once you rub it into your hair it sticks there easily enough. The instructions state that you should leave the oil on your hair no longer than a minute, as it is an intensive treatment. This suits me fine as I don't really have time to stand in the shower for ages waiting for it to work. After rinsing out the oil, which is a fairly quick process, I wash and condition my hair as usual.
I've used all four of my tubes now, which has taken me four weeks. I have noticed a difference in my hair, though not a majorly dramatic one. In the first couple of days after using, my hair feels quite a bit softer and a little more flyaway (which isn't a good thing). However, at least my hair doesn't feel like straw, which it sometimes does. I've also noticed that in general my hair looks more shiny and feels a bit stronger, though this is hard to judge.
Overall, though this isn't a miracle cure it has had a positive effect on my hair and I would buy this product again. It doesn't cost much and is fairly quick to use. Maybe next time I will make the effort to bring up a cup of hot water from the kitchen to heat the oil in, in case it makes it more effective.
Vo5 hot oil is an intense conditioning treatment designed to nourish and strengthen hair. I tried this produce as I bleach my hair sonit is very dry and brittle so it needs a lot of treatment.
The oil is great in terms of it's very easy, fast, and convenient to use as it only needs to stay in the hair for a minute. The package boasts it has 5 natural oils in it to reduce breakage, and has a protective uv filter.
So the idea is you put the plastic tube of oil in the bath while it's running ( to heat up the oil) or hold it under the a running shower for a while. You apply the oil to the hair BEFORE shampooing as oil needs to be washe out properly as it clings to hair and can make it look greasy if not washed out properly.
You leave the oil in for one minute then shampoo out. You can feel the difference right away as hair feels silky soft and smooth so it is a very fast and great product
I costs around 4/5 pounds for four little tubes although the product it good the same result can be achieve by avocado, coconut, jojaba ( don't quote the spelling) and virtually any oil for that matter and you can buy these in bigger quantities for around the same price but I understand it's more convenient to buy products like this from supermarkets. I personally use coconut oil myself and I love I and it has just as good results!
Alberto VO5 Hot Oil is a product that has been around for a long time and it's a product that I've used on many occasions over the years. The idea behind Alberto VO5 Hot Oil is that it is an intensive conditioning product which is intended to nourish, condition, and strengthen hair. Because I colour my hair every six weeks or so and I also use hair straighteners, my hair does, at times, seem out of condition and I want a product which is going to really put some conditioning back in my hair. This is when I have turned to VO5 hot oil to potentially help. A pack of Alberto VO5 Hot Oil costs £2.71 for 4 x 15ml ampoules - which equates to 68p per ampoule which I feel is a decent enough price.
In order to use this product, you need to put one of the plastic bottles in a mug of hot water and leave it in there fore about 5 minutes. This then heats the oil to a temperature that is pleasantly hot but not too hot that it burns. I do find that the oil works better the hotter it is and so I try to get it as hot as possible without it being uncomfortable. Once the oil has been in the hot water for 5 minutes or so, you then need to twist off the little plastic cap and apply to unshampooed hair. As it goes onto my hair it actually feels really nice and relaxing - and the pleasantly warm sensation is just very pleasing. It's a matter of then simply leaving the oil on my hair for about 3 minutes before rinsing and then shampooing. The oil is removed easily from the hair with shampooing - and it does leave my hair in a much better condition than it was in before. I wouldn't exactly say that it strengthens my hair, but it does inject moisture into it so that it's not so dry - and it also really helps to condition my scalp also.
I only tend to use this product when my hair looks like it's in need of conditioning. If it's in need of conditioning, then I use this product twice over the period of a week - and this intensive treatment puts my hair back in shape. The only negative thing about this product is that I usually have to open two ampoules on my hair as 15 mls isn't enough - and as the bottle cannot be resealed, I usually end up having to throw away some of the product.
I recommend using Alberto VO5 Hot Oil now and again if your hair gets out of condition because of colouring or using hair products.
My daughter dyes her her blue every week and in the last month i have spent over £50 on conditionars to stop the drying affect, we have also used youghart and mayo but nothing seemed to work.my friend gave me a tube of hot oil and i worked like a treat, its the cure we have been looking for.its a hair wonder work in a tube.beautiful hair and hardly any work (i left it in for 5 mins instead of 1 min).TRY IT
About a year or two ago I decided to experiment and dye my hair, well as you can imagine someone who has never died there hair before, with no experience and not knowing what to do, well just equals a disaster. I'm quite a natural girl, hate dying my hair, I absolutely love my natural colour. My hair is in very good condition due to the fact I don't dye my hair. Well I decided to buy a cheap hair dye from boots and well it went horribly wrong and I must of dyed my hair three times in one week to get somewhere close to the colour I had decided that I wanted. Same week I had my hair stripped back to my natural colour. You can imagine the kind of condition my hair was in.
I had a trim, but my hair still looked dull, lifeless and extremely dry. My hairdresser recommended me these hot oils to restore and strengthen my hair again.
They come in a shiny blue box with the V05 logo, with a very nice simple design on the front, with a couple of bits of information. The oil itself is a yellowish colour and is stored in a tube with a plastic noble on the top which you pull off to open. This is very handy as you don't need to guess the amount you need to use, it comes in a pack of four with the recommended amount inside. As I have fairly long hair I was worried the first time in case it wouldn't be enough, a little definitely goes a long way.
You apply this to wet hair just before shampooing you massage the oil into your hair and scalp making sure to cover your whole head, don't worry to much if you apply more to an area than another as it tends to spread through the hair as you massage. You then leave the oil in your hair for about a minute and rinse thoroughly, then continue with your shampoo and conditioning process.
I must say this product was brilliant, just after one use my hair looked much healthier and alive. My split ends didn't look half as bad and was so much easier to manage. It has also restored the shine to my hair which I had lost through dying it multiple times. The product smells rather nice, not really an enjoyable smell, but not off putting and seeing as you continue with your regular washing process after the smell is washed out anyway. I used this product once a week and by the time I had finished all four, I was very impressed with the results and how quickly they developed. Soft, manageable, shiny and healthy hair.. what more could you ask for. I still use these, I tend to use one every two to three weeks to keep my hair in tip top condition.
I bought this product in Super drug for about £4.50 which I think is an absolute bargain for the quality and the results you achieve is brilliant. I have also done some research and if you go to Super drug at the moment they on offer for £3 for a pack of four, a blimming good deal. I shall be stocking up on them!
Overall a fantastic product, that gives great results for a very good price!
"USE VO5 HOT OILS!"
I was just having a casual conversation with a friend and we were talking about my hair being in bad condition, obviously because of hair straighteners, curlers, hair dryer and hair dye and she recommended that I use the VO5 Hot Oils. At first, I just thought 'yeah, i'll tell her that i'm going to use it, but have no intention of doing it.' Probably because i expected them to work a little bit, but not show dramatically different results? However, i went out shopping with my parents and we were down the isle with the shampoo and hair products and I came across the hot oils, they come in a small box - very small infact? There are four tubes per box and they're only £3.00! Which in my opinion, is an extremely good price. I had to get a box, just to try it out - although, I must admit that I thought they weren't going to work, because they were so cheap.
WHAT DO THEY DO??
If you haven't heard of hot oils before, i imagine you have an idea that they're hair product related. They are called 'moisture soak hot oils' because they are an intensive pre-shampoo treatment which in effect makes your hair a lot softer. When i began to read the box, i was very surprised to find out that the amount of things that this tiny 15ml tube of liquid actually does. There are several things that the product is supposed to do, and it become clear that using this product, should make my hair get back into good condition. The list of positives that VO5 have justified are:
*Restores moisture for dramatic results in one minute.
*Doubles the strength of hair to reduce breakage.
*Seeks out and binds to weak sites of every strand.
*Removes 75% more chlorine than shampooing alone.
This treatment is infused with a blend of five vital oils and white pearl extracts to essentially repair and hydrate dry, damaged hair. If you want best results, use the product once a week because it'll keep the hair in good condition as it is fairly long lasting. The product counteracts the damage and repairs quickly.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE.
Firstly, you use only one tube per wash. You then place the unopened tube into a cup of warm water, to let the oil heat up. Alternatively, you can put the tube under the shower for about 30 seconds, or drop it into a hot bath. It is essential that you use the product before shampooing your hair, but make sure that you actually wash your hair, otherwise the results will leave your hair looking greasy. So, you need to make your hair wet and then massage the contents of the tube into your hair and leave for approximately sixty seconds. Because the treatment is intense, do not exceed the application time because it may lead to irritation. You then need to rinse your scalp and your skin thoroughly, followed by using shampoo.
They're outstanding, honestly unbelievable. After using the first tube, i could honestly see my hair was in better condition and it was noticably better too. I was getting a lot more compliments regarding my hair and the softness of my hair. It feels so much softer and I am definitely going to be using this product regularly and I will recommend the product to anybody!
Alberto Vo5 hot oil treatment is a product that has been around for sometime and has something of a following! I paid six pounds for a pack of five tubes from Tesco, which work sout as just over £1 a pack. If they worked as fantastic miracles as everyone told me they did then that would be money well spent!
My Mum had recommended these to me after I complained my hair was dry and not in great condition after a bleaching session at my local hairdressers.
The pack is a cardboard box (some bonus points for recycling here) and inside come little plastic tubes with a few spoonfuls of yellow oil in. The idea is that you put the tube in the microwave and heat it up, just quickly and then snap the cap off, pour it over your hair, let it soak in for a few minutes and then wash it off. It's like a novel type of deep conditioning mask.
The hot oil doesn't really smell of anything so it is not a horrible experience, and is not hard to do either, except I worried that I would burn myself, which if you follow the instructions you wont!
The oil is easy to wash off and immediately after drying I could tell my hair was much softer and ilkier, I really was impresed with this aspect.
The downside was that my ahir was much heavier and a bit more lifeless, so it certainly wouldn't be advisable to use this before trying to recreate certain difficult styles!
I loved the immediate effect, but not so much the side effects. I will use this maybe once a month when my hair needs a good boost, but certainly not every week and swear by it like my Mum does!
I confess that for my sins I am one of those girls who does not like to have a hair out of place when I step outside my front door. This means my hair constantly faces a barrage of products, colours, and heated appliances to ensure that it looks exactly the way I want it. Recently, this has really taken its toll and I have to say it looked a sorry state-until this morning.
I was put onto VO5 hot oil by a friend after a particularly windy day at the beach and I have not looked back since. VO5 hot oil is an occasional treatment that you can put on your hair to help repair some of the damage you may have done to it during your daily life.
VO5 hot oil comes in a small card sleeve/box with four 15ml pouches of hot oil in it. It cost £3.99 for this pack when I got it. The packaging is straightforward, telling you the name of the product, and there is a space where you can see the oil container. The hot oil is a golden ambery colour. On the back of the packet it details what the product is for- helping you to recondition hair damaged from overstyling and bring it back to life. On the side of the packet are the instructions for use.
Using this product is simple and the instructions are very easy to follow. You first need to heat the oil up- either in a cup of warm water or you can float it in the bath when you have one. You then need to wet your hair. You break off the cap on the container and put the oil on your hair, massaging it in for 1 minute then rinsing out-simple. The oil by its essence feels greasy and you may feel like you are making your hair feel worse, but it washes out fine as long as you are thorough. After you have used and rinsed out the hot oil you wash and condition your hair as normal.
*what I thought*
I have to say, when my friend said oil I was somewhat skeptical. OIl on your hair was sure to leave it lank and greasy? Not the case. VO5 hot oil is one of the best products I have come across for helping with damaged hair. After using the product following the exact instructions, I dried my hair and it has never felt better. My hair looks and feels a lot smoother and cleaner, as the oil helps to lift the dirt the hair picks up to give it a really good clean. I use this product regularly as part of my hair care routine and it really does improve the condition of it. I swear by hot oil, just make sure if you use it to wash it out really carefully or you will be left with greasy strands of hair. Overall, hot oil is perfect if your hair is crying out for a quick fix and some loving care.
I am on a never ending quest to try to find something that will make my hair look slightly less like a birdsnest without having to constantly straighten it. The previous constant straightening has made my hair rather dry and a bit coarse and so when I saw an advert in a magazine for this product thought I'd give it a try.
I bought a box of three little plastic tubes containing enough oil in each one for a treatment. I think it was around £1.99 but this was a special offer. You have to heat up the oil in a glass of hot water for a few minutes before breaking the plastic tip off the tube and applying it to damp hair. I have quite a lot of hair but a little seems to go a long way and one tube was just about enough. You leave it on for a minute but I left it on for a bit longer. You then shampoo out and condition as normal.
I was impressed with the condition of my hair afterwards. It was definitely softer, less frizzy and more manageable and seemed to have extra shine.
I will definitely be adding this to my hair routine every week from now on.
I bought this after reading a few positive reviews on it on here. I currently have blonde highlights in my hair which I re-do about every month, and on top of this I use straightners each day so I do need to give my hair a treat every now and then. I actually found these really hard to find, I looked in a big Boots store and the smaller Boots store and couldn't see anything! In the end I found it in Superdrug for £4.20 for 4 tubes. This may sounds quite expensive for something you will only get 4 uses out of, but its a lot cheaper than other brands version of it which I have seen for more around £6-7. I'm not sure why Boots don't sell them, I thought they were quite popular and they do stock other VO5 products so I've no idea why!
The oil is in 4 separate little tubes which are packed inside a cardboard box. The box is blue with VO5 hot oil written on the front. It is pretty normal looking, neither boring or dated, or exciting and modern. The little tubes are long thin plastic pockets, they are clear and squashy so you can feel the oil inside. They are quite simple and just have the VO5 logo and 'hot oil' printed in gold beneath this. They also have all the directions printed on the back so if you throw the box away you can still read these on each tube. The lid is a little plastic nodule that you twist and snap off which is easily done, and the oil can then be squeezed through the hole.
***What it promises...
It says that it will:
"Dramatically revitalize hair, saturate your hair with moisture and strengthen it up to 4x. This vitamin and protein formula restores moisture to dry hair and helps reconstruct damaged strands. All in under one minute!"
On the box it says to heat the oil up before use either by putting it in a cup of warm water or dropping it into your bath. I decided to do the latter because I have really hot baths so I left it floating in the bath while I shampooed my hair. When I took it out of the water I could feel it has warmed up so I snapped off the cap and poured a bit out onto my hand. There is plenty in the tube, I have quite long hair and find the tube more than enough. It is quite runny but it comes out slowly. It is an orangey yellow colour and has a pleasant smell. The smell reminds me of Johnson's baby oil type smell, that's all I can really liken it to! I just apply it to the ends of my hair and not near the roots as I worry this will make my hair lank afterwards.
It felt a bit weird applying it at first because I'm used to putting conditioner on my hair if anything which spreads over the hair quite easily, whereas this kind of sinks into the hair like water and leaves it feeling like it did before you put it on, so its hard to tell whether you have covered all of the hair or not. Anyway I did my best to cover all the ends of my hair. You have to act quite quickly with the oil as the directions say only to leave it on for a minute and no longer, so you can't spend a few minutes massaging it in. I'm assuming this is because it may make the hair greasy if left on for any longer. So once I'd applied it, it was nearly time to wash it out. This makes it quite good if you are in a rush as you don't have to sit there for 10mins letting it work. It would also be good to take on holiday or to the gym for when you just want a quick shower.
I found it easy to rinse out, although I have always given my hair a really good rinse after using it because you can't really feel it so its hard to tell if it is all rinsed out or not. When I rinsed it out to be honest I didn't notice a bit difference, my hair felt fairly smooth but nothing major, like you feel after using a deep conditioner. But when I came to dry my hair I noticed how shiny it looked! I've now used 3 of the tubes, one a week, and my hair has definitely become a lot glossier and healthier looking. I actually think it has given better results than deep conditioning treatments I have used. It has never weighed my hair down either or made it look greasy or lank which is really good.
This is a really good product, it has really made a difference to my hair and is good value for money. I think it is ideal for people with long hair who want to treat their hair without weighing it down. I would also advise it for anyone who is always on the go and needs a quick fix for looking after their hair.
I've used this product on and off when my hair's needed a boost for a number of years and it's stood the test of time.
I think the success of it lies in it's simplicity. It's simple to use, the ingredient is simple, you know you're not putting loads of chemicals on your hair, and it's for all hair types. Simple!!
To use the product you just leave it in warm water to heat up for a minute, twist the top off and apply to the hair, wait a minute, rinse off and shampoo as normal.
It really does the trick, if using it on the length of the hair it gives a healthy shine, and if you are using it on the scalp gives a great dose of moisture if you are prone to dandruff.
It's also a good price, you can buy multipacks, of 4 or individual tubes for 99p. And you only need to use it once in a while.
This is a hot oil treatment from the makers VO5. The new version is out and so I thought I would buy it for my daughter. She has very long hair and so when I saw this new one called Moisture Soak I thought I would give it a try. Especially as my daughter swims almost daily and I saw that this conditioner removes 75% more chlorine than shampooing alone.
It claims to reconstructs damaged hair in 1 minute. The packaging is very nice. There is a cardboard outer box with information. In the box there are 4 individual tubes of the hot oil each of which contains 15ml of oil. They are packaged in plastic and have a very easy to remove twist lid.
The product has an exclusive blend of 5 vitamins to leave hair looking and feeling vitally alive. It also says it dramatically smoothes and restores shine and doubles the strength of hair to protect against breakage. It also claims to seeks out and binds to the weak sites of every strand.
We found the instructions very easy to follow: Remove one tube from the carton. Place unopened tube into a cup of hot water for one minute to heat. Alternatively drop into bath or run under shower. The very important thing to note is that is must be used before shampooing. Massage contents of tube into wet hair. Leave on up to 1 minute. Rinse hair, scalp and skin thoroughly. Shampoo as usual. Rinse, dry and style.
It felt very special to use hot oil on my daughter's hair. I loved massaging in the warm oil. However, as her hair is so long I really needed to use two tubes. Another difficulty is the oil was so runny I did lose a bit in the bath. The oil has a lovely smell. After using my daughters hair felt very soft. After drying you could see that her hair was very shiny and looked very healthy.
The oil is available from supermarkets and chemists and cost £3.39

I dye my hair quite regularly and I am always scared of it becoming dry and weak. So when I saw VO5 Hot oil, I decided to buy it and see what it was like. It left my hair shiny and feeling a lot softer than it had done to begin with. Now, I use these every couple of weeks to give my hair a nice boost.
