Advantages: Leaves hair shiny & healthy, really quick to use

Disadvantages: none

I bought this after reading a few positive reviews on it on here. I currently have blonde highlights in my hair which I re-do about every month, and on top of this I use straightners each day so I do need to give my hair a treat every now and then. I actually found these really hard to find, I looked in a big Boots store and the smaller Boots store and couldn't see anything! In the end I found it in Superdrug for £4.20 for 4 tubes. This may sounds quite expensive for something you will only get 4 uses out of, but its a lot cheaper than other brands version of it which I have seen for more around £6-7. I'm not sure why Boots don't sell them, I thought they were quite popular and they do stock other VO5 products so I've no idea why!

***Packaging...

The oil is in 4 separate little tubes which are packed inside a cardboard box. The box is blue with VO5 hot oil written on the front. It is pretty normal looking, neither boring or dated, or exciting and modern. The little tubes are long thin plastic pockets, they are clear and squashy so you can feel the oil inside. They are quite simple and just have the VO5 logo and 'hot oil' printed in gold beneath this. They also have all the directions printed on the back so if you throw the box away you can still read these on each tube. The lid is a little plastic nodule that you twist and snap off which is easily done, and the oil can then be squeezed through the hole.

***What it promises...

It says that it will:
"Dramatically revitalize hair, saturate your hair with moisture and strengthen it up to 4x. This vitamin and protein formula restores moisture to dry hair and helps reconstruct damaged strands. All in under one minute!"

***My Experience...

On the box it says to heat the oil up before use either by putting it in a cup of warm water or dropping it into your bath. I decided to do the latter because I have really hot baths so I left it floating in the bath while I shampooed my hair. When I took it out of the water I could feel it has warmed up so I snapped off the cap and poured a bit out onto my hand. There is plenty in the tube, I have quite long hair and find the tube more than enough. It is quite runny but it comes out slowly. It is an orangey yellow colour and has a pleasant smell. The smell reminds me of Johnson's baby oil type smell, that's all I can really liken it to! I just apply it to the ends of my hair and not near the roots as I worry this will make my hair lank afterwards.

It felt a bit weird applying it at first because I'm used to putting conditioner on my hair if anything which spreads over the hair quite easily, whereas this kind of sinks into the hair like water and leaves it feeling like it did before you put it on, so its hard to tell whether you have covered all of the hair or not. Anyway I did my best to cover all the ends of my hair. You have to act quite quickly with the oil as the directions say only to leave it on for a minute and no longer, so you can't spend a few minutes massaging it in. I'm assuming this is because it may make the hair greasy if left on for any longer. So once I'd applied it, it was nearly time to wash it out. This makes it quite good if you are in a rush as you don't have to sit there for 10mins letting it work. It would also be good to take on holiday or to the gym for when you just want a quick shower.

I found it easy to rinse out, although I have always given my hair a really good rinse after using it because you can't really feel it so its hard to tell if it is all rinsed out or not. When I rinsed it out to be honest I didn't notice a bit difference, my hair felt fairly smooth but nothing major, like you feel after using a deep conditioner. But when I came to dry my hair I noticed how shiny it looked! I've now used 3 of the tubes, one a week, and my hair has definitely become a lot glossier and healthier looking. I actually think it has given better results than deep conditioning treatments I have used. It has never weighed my hair down either or made it look greasy or lank which is really good.

***Overall Opinion...

This is a really good product, it has really made a difference to my hair and is good value for money. I think it is ideal for people with long hair who want to treat their hair without weighing it down. I would also advise it for anyone who is always on the go and needs a quick fix for looking after their hair.

Summary: Shiny hair : )
