Advantages: A SUPER-QUICK SOLUTION FOR DEYDRATED HAIR, EFFECTIVE & MOISTURISING.
Disadvantages: IMO TWO SACHETS WOULD BE REQUIRED TO TOTALLY COAT LONGER HAIR...
At the moment I seem to be buying pretty much any hair care product I can lay my hands on to try and intensively reconditioned my newly frazzled locks after having my hair 'professionally' highlighted at the hairdressers last week...
One old favourite sprang immediately to mind on a recent shopping mini-expedition to Wilkos in search of de-frizzing solutions - Alberto-Culver's 'V05 Hot Oil Moisture Soak' - priced at £1.06 per individual splinter-packed sachet.
Back in the day when perms were all the rage in the 80's, I used to regularly treat my hair to a good old fashioned sixty second soak with this warmed up liquid oil...and very effective it was too!
I was quite pleased to see it had not changed one iota bar the light blue cardboard packaging being a slightly funkier colour.
Advertised as 'quick and easy to use' I scoured the blurb for 'Mega-miracle for manky manes', but sadly didn't spot the like!
However, it did state 'Dry, rebellious hair/ at the bottom of the recyclable sleeve so that, in reality, would have to do.
Promising that this 15 ml golden runny liquid 'Reconstructs damaged hair in one minute', it was certainly worth a shot for around £1; especially when I read on the back 'For you, V05 has created Moisture Soak Hot oil an intensive treatment to repair and hydrate your hair'.
It has always made sense to me that if precious natural lubricating oils are harshly chemically stripped via the various brutal processes we make our tresses endure; well then the most efficient way to replace at least some moisture is via a greasy substance like the one that V05 have been selling since time immemorial...
There is plenty of user information on the pack of the slender cardboard sleeve, advising the consumer that this solution has been specifically designed to counteract any damage caused by over heating, colouring and even over-brushing the hair.
The principle is very simple really, heat the sealed oil tube for one minute in hot water for one minute (usually by placing it in a cup), then after untwisting the tiny round stopper massage the contents on wet and yet unwashed hair - leaving for the obligatory time frame.
As far as the premise goes, it is that the mixture can penetrate deeply into the hair follicles and that it will:
* Restore moisture for dramatic results in just one minute
* Double the strength of hair to reduce breakage
* Seek out and bind the weak sites of every strand
* Remove 755 more chlorine than shampooing alone
After the allotted time has elapsed simply rinse off then shampoo as normal, then continue to style as you would usually.
V05 advise regular weekly usage, and after my first attempt with this product I immediately went out and bought another one ready for my next replenishing hair session!
Containing Panthenol, Aloe Barbadenis Leaf Juice and Vegetable Amino Acids, plus Limonene and Linalool lending their aromas towards the pleasant scent of the liquid; there is a whole host of other complex sounding ingredients that are quite frankly way above my head!
Suffice it to say, the results are wonderful!
Sleek, softer, more moisturised and definitely visibly more hydrated strands of hair are obtained - hence this oil is nothing sort of fabulous in my book!
There is no horrid after-smell that I detected, plus any subtle scent is washed away by the normal shampooing/conditioning afterwards.
In my opinion it did definitely help towards some of the damage the harsh chemicals did to my hair's structure last week, plus left my locks decidedly glossier and more nourished too.
As far as repairing goes, I certainly hope it does help repair any permanent damage caused, and the chlorine removal is a great 'added extra' for those of you who are regular swimmers too.
Common sense precautions to avoid the eye area should be taken (squeeze 'em tightly shut, I know I did!), as the contents can cause severe irritation. Should any irritation persist medical consultation is advised. I had no problem nonetheless; it's just a case of being very careful on application.
It's very handy to have a comb nearby also, it helps in coating every individual hair for maximum coverage, therefore effectiveness...
I am definitely going to include using one of these amazing replenishing little tubes into my weekly hair care routine, it's not time consuming nor expensive either.
Another point to note is I had no adverse reaction to the chemicals within as regards my dermatitis - a plus for me once again - needless to say it does of course feel somewhat slimy as you work it through your locks.
A way to avoid the greasy feel of this is to use a thin disposable pair of gloves - the type one uses for hair dyes or household jobs, per say, although it does wash easily off the hands with warm soapy water.
As you may have gathered a glistening, lubricated 5 Dooyoo Stars for V05's little wonder is happily awarded today I'm pleased to say!

- 27/07/09 I should use something like this on my hair as I have highlights and my hairdresser said to use some decent treatments regularly, but I can never decide which is the right one to use... Oh and I know all about the perms of the 80s, I cringe when I see my old photos haha! |
