Advantages: does just what it says on the tin
Disadvantages: burns if you get it in your eyes
Introduction:
When it comes to buying Shampoo and the like I'm always inclined to buy whatever's on offer at the time. I like to save a few pennies where I can but also like to know that I'm investing in a good brand and not the nasty own brand shampoos.
On a regular trip to my local Tesco's I decided it was about time I bought some new shampoo, instead of trying to get the dregs out of multiple old bottles.
On browsing the hair care shelf I was greeted by a buy one get one free offer, much to mine and my purses pleasure. The product in question - Alberto VO5 Silky Smooth ELIXIR. At £2.12 for a 300ml bottle it's quite pricey... to buy the shampoo and conditioner would set you back £4.24, but as it was two for the price of one I popped both in my basket.
Packaging:
The shampoo comes in pink and pearlescent bottles which ooze femininity and luxury. It has a regular flip top bottle although the shampoo bottle is slightly annoying as the top is rounded so you can't stand it upside down when you're running low.
My hair:
Now before I give my opinion on the product I should tell you a bit about my hair. It's that awkward in between length, not long and not short. It's that awkward in between style... not curly and not straight. And due to home DIY attempts at hair colouring and daily drying/straightening it's prone to frizziness, dryness and split ends. A nightmare as you can imagine.
What it says on the front:
"Silky smooth elixir with satin silk. Infused with 5 vital oils. Luminous shine shampoo for dull, frizzy, heat damaged hair." - Sounds perfect for me, but can it deliver?
What it claims:
"Smooths hair to tame and control frizz"
"Leaves hair with radiant shine"
"Is ideal for hair exposed to heat styling tools"
- Brilliant, but does it really work?
What it contains:
"Infused with a 5 vital oil blend:
Nutrient rich Avocado and Jojoba oils
Strengthening Apricot and Almond oils
Shine enhancing grape seed oil"
... Yes it all sounds very impressive... but will it work on MY unruly hair.
How to use:
Quite simple really. You wet your hair and on you plonk it... although the packaging explains it slightly more professionally.
"Massage into wet hair, lather and rinse thoroughly. In case of contact with eyes rinse thoroughly with clean water. For optimum results follow with VO5 Silky Smooth Elixir Conditioner."
Yes, don't get it into your eyes... man does it sting!!! I was wandering bleary eyed round the bathroom groping for a towel whilst my eye was watering terribly.
My Experience:
So I got in the shower and soaked my hair then opened the bottle and squirted a walnut sized dollop into my palm and began to massage thoroughly. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it lathered up quite quickly and considering I hadn't used that much my entire head was covered in bubbles... so much so that it ran down my face into my eyes... "it burrrrnnns".
After the rather unpleasant burning eye fiasco I continued to rinsing out the shampoo, I was again surprised to find that it rinsed easily and left my hair feeling light and smooth... and there were no tangles, I hadn't even used the conditioner at this point!
After applying the conditioner and rinsing, then continuing with my shower, I towel dried my hair and reached for the hair brush.
The brush pulled through effortlessly. An amazing achievement for my usually matted mane.
After drying and straightening as usual I was very happy with the result. Smooth silky locks, as promised on the bottle. I couldn't believe the difference after just one wash! It was amazing.
Smell:
The shampoo smells quite strongly and I can't quite put my finger on what it smells like. It's not an unpleasant smell, but it is unusual. It's long lasting to. Every time I turn my head I breathe in the aroma of my new number one shampoo.
Cost:
As I said before it's quite costly to purchase both items at RRP but there are frequently offers on. I've since stocked up again from the pound line at Asda. Apparently they're a pound at morrisons too.
Conclusion.
Great results. Does what it says on the tin. I'd definately recommend and will most certainly be using for the forseeable future.
:)
Summary: great results and even better if you can get it on offer
