Advantages: Makes your hair feel lovely and soft

I have recently been told off by my hairdresser for washing my hair every day, and therefore washing all of the moisture out of it. She advised waiting for a day when I knew that I wouldn't be going out and not washing it, and then it would be easier to get into a routine of washing it every other day. I tried, but I just couldn't do it; my hair felt terrible by lunchtime, and it felt really dirty, so I washed it and was back to square one. To make things even worse, I am guilty of blow drying and straightening every single day: sorry hair, but you've made me do it!


The next best thing I thought was to buy a nourishing shampoo. I have generally used Dove in the past, but as I'm still being told off I figured that it can't be that good, so I decided to change brands. Alberto VO5 was on offer, reduced from £1.95 to £1 for 300ml, so as nothing else particularly caught my eye, I gave it a go.


VO5 Silky Smooth elixir comes in a dusky pink bottle, that does look stylish and it has a flip top lid that fits snugly: great when you are travelling, I'm confident that it wouldn't come undone, but not so good in the shower when you have wet and slippery hands. It states on the bottle that it is infused with five vital oils and it gives luminous shine especially for dull, frizzy and heat damaged hair: An absolutely accurate description of my frazzled locks, so I'm expecting great things!


Once you open the bottle, the first thing that hits you is the smell. This shampoo does not have a pleasant aroma at all in my opinion. It has an almost chemical smell which is not at all alluring; I have used cleaning products that smell nicer than this and not as toxic. Even once it I thoroughly washed off and conditioner is put on top of it, the smell remains, and seems to follow you around all day!


The shampoo is a lovely pearlescent pink colour and you only need a very small amount of the product to get up a really good lather, it feels creamy and luxurious during application, and it washes off well, leaving my hair feeling squeaky clean, and even when it is wet, my hair feels smooth and soft.


Once dry, my hair does feel softer than when I use my normal shampoo and it definitely has more shine. I can run my fingers easily through my hair without any tangles, and it feels silky and smooth. I have used this shampoo for a month now, and my hair feels slightly stronger, and not as much appears tobreak off when I'm straightening it. I do not think that it has repaired any damage though and my hair certainly has not been "restored to its natural beauty" as promised on the bottle - I do not think that such a product exists (but please let me know if it does!) I think that the only solution is to not do the damage in the first place.


Everything about this product is absolutely perfect apart from the smell and for this reason alone, I will not buy it again. I find this really frustrating, and I can't believe that something can't be put in it by Alberto to make it a more pleasant product to use.
