Advantages: Fairly priced, does exactly what it says it does!
Disadvantages: The smells not unpleasant, but it takes some getting used to
I am a bit of a cheapskate, and dont tend to splash out silly amounts for shampoos, so look for offers on buy one get frees, and half price etc! Usually I get a Herbal Essences shampoo and conditioner on offer, but during a trip to the supermarket a few weeks ago, I couldnt believe the price they were charging for my usual (maybe as they had gotten rid of all my normal sized bottles and replaced them with huge ones!)
So I scouted about, and came upon a VO5 silky smooth elixir that caught my eye. Not only was it on a buy one get one free offer, it was reasonably priced at £2.35 a bottle, and the main thing that caught my eye was the pearly pink colour of the shampoo bottle. There are 5 pretty pink water droplets that circle around the name of the shampoo, with a little blurb that tells us it is infused with 5 vital oils.
After closer inspection, I saw that this sounded perfect for my nightmare mane, as its made for dull, frizzy and heat damaged hair - that describes my hair to a T! The bottle claims that the shampoo 'smooths hair to tame frizz, leaves hair with a radiant shine, and is ideal for hair exposed to heat styling tools'. So I hoped this would work, as if so it was perfectly made with mops like mine in mind, and I have lost count of the times I have bought things to try tame my frizz and nothing worked.
The first time I used the shampoo, I wasn't too sure about the smell. Its not quite fruity, although it is close, but almost with a hint of that chemically smell you get from the hairdressers. I'm still undecided if I like the smell, but it doesn't make my hair smell foul, so it will do!!
As I have such long thich hair, I often end up using a few handfulls of shampoo to get it all cleaned, but I squeezed a medium sized blob into my hand. The colour of the shampoo was a very, very pale pink, and it was pearly too, like the bottle.
I lathered the shampoo into my wet hair, and was amazed at how quickly and just how much the shampoo lathered up. The scent of the bubbles seemed more delicate once they were lathered up, and that small blob I had put in my hand was more than enough to cover all my hair and give it a fantastic clean.
A big test for me is how my hair feels once the shampoo is rinsed off and before I apply conditioner. Usually, if my hair feels like straw once the shampoo is gone, the conditioner usually isn't up to scratch and my hair feels awful.
As I rinsed this Elixir off, my hair felt so smooth and soft, almost to the point I debated wether or not I actually needed any conditioner at all. Even though I did in the end, I still reckon I could have got by without it.
Once my hair was dryed, I set about straightening it. I often find that the shampoo I use effects the way my GHD's straighten my hair, cheap, rubbish shampoos dont give me a clean straighten, and I still get frizz.
My straighteners glided superbly over my hair, and the finished look was up to hairdresser standards! Not only was my hair silky smooth and felt unbelievably soft, it was shining! My dull, lifeless straw hair had a shine to it that I hadnt needed various other little bottles and tubes to get!
This is down to the 5 vital oils the shampoo includes, which are - Avocada and jojoba oil, apricot and almond oil, and, the secret to the shine, grape seed oil.
As I said before, I am a cheapskate and wont pay salon prices for my hair products, mainly because I have spent a fortune in the past for things not to work, but I think I may have now found my secret weapon to luxurious locks, and I founf it cheaply in the supermarket!
Summary: Pearly pink bottle of lush!
