**Introduction** It had been a while since I had bought any hair gel when I ran out of my Loreal hair gel which I had for ages. When my hair gets long it gets too curly for my liking so I like to have a decent gel around to style the curls out and make a style that is more to my liking. I recently picked up some toiletries in Boots and looking in the hair stylist section I found this gel. I had used VO5 before and had fairly good results with it and as it was cheaper than other products I decided to pick up one of these tubes along with some David Beckham shower gel. **The Tube** Like most products on the market, This gel has the same look as many other VO5 products in the range. You have the distinctive sign at the top and then the writing down the front which shows what the particular product in the range is. It looks good on the shelf alongside the other products and as VO5 is a very well known hair styling brand I'm sure that people would be drawn to it when looking at the various products on show in the shops. The size of the tube is 200ml which is a decent amount and around what you would typically find with other brands. **The Styling** I have used this gel a couple of times now and it has worked rather well. It's quite sticky when you apply the gel but once you have styled your hair with your fingers or a comb or brush then it stays in place particularly well. The smell is pleasant although difficult to describe and works best with slightly wet hair or as they describe "Towel dry". You can easily do a variety of different styles with this gel and It stays very well indeed. Better than many hair gels I have used. It fades fairly well when you wash your hair and you can then style your hair again. **Overall** This is a very good hair gel that works with a wide range of styles and hair types. It's ideal for a spiky look or any similar style with a little definition to it. You can find the 200ml tube of the gel for £2.99 which is a decent price compared to some competitors which are priced around £3.50/£4 or in some cases more. If you are running out of hair gel then why not give this one a try. It gives you excellent hold for a wide range of styles and is easy to remove from your hair with a quick wash. The only gripe is the sticky feel of the gel so once you have styled your hair it's ideal to wash your hands of the sticky feel and avoid touching your hair too much. Otherwise it's a good product.
I have used a number of gels on my hair like Alberto Balsam and Shockwaves, but nothing compares to VO5 Mega Hold Styling Gel. How to use Put a small amount of gel on one hand and rub it in your hands to warm it a little. Then gently put it in your hair from roots to ends, for the longest hold. This gel provides a great hold for even thick hair. With dark hair it works great, providing a slight shiny effect. Unlike with shockwaves there are no flakes caused by the gel, even if you leave it in your hair for days on end. This product lasted me around 2-3 months which was quite impressive considering that i use it almost every day. The strong hold allows you to pull of virtually any style. A quick word of caution- this product is probably of no use to people with thin hair because you can use any kind of product with thin hair such as wax or clay. After you have applied the product to your hair it does feel a little itchy and sticky so I would recommend washing your hands and not touching your hair afterwards.
I use so much styling gel it can sometimes become quite costly and so when I see some that are on special offer, I try them and it makes sense to save money at the same time, this is a well known brand of gels and other products, so I knew it would probably do what it is supposed to do for my hair. It comes in a tube with a flip top, the gel is such a good quality and for only £1 for 50ml I think it is extremely good value for money, I bought this one from Asda, I like my hair to hold in place as it is quite thick, I like it to feel nice after I have applied a gel or putty to my hair, I bought this mega hold as the weather is getting a little bit colder and the windy days are ahead, and I like my hair to stay put if possible. It is easy to apply to the hair, I sometimes use it on damp hair, also use it on dry hair too, it all depends how much time I actually have in the day, also what time of day too, I find this one is not too sticky while applying it or after it is on my hair, it has a super hold and my hair does stay in place with this one, I apply a little to my fingers and work it into my hair and leave it to dry naturally and the job is done. It is also very easily washed out of my hair and it does not leave it all hard or brittle, and I often just top up my gels during the day and this one works well for me done that way, I have no complaints at all, I just like to apply mine and leave it, and a little goes a long way, I love the texture as it is smooth and soft, it is also a good quality and worth the price, I really like the way I can shape my hair in no time at all, I like a gel that can hold in any kind of weather, this mega hold one is one that does last me most of the day without a top up and the tube is small enough for me to take on holiday or for an overnight stay and would easily fit into a travel wash bag. It does have a nice smell to it, it is not too over powering, I would say it is the right amount of fragrance for my hair, it has a nice fresh clean smell and is excellent value for money and I highly recommend it to anyone to try and for the price I think it is affordable for all budgets. I rate it 5 stars.
I have been using Alberto VO5 Mega Hold Styling Gel for about 12 months now. I first bought it because it was on a buy one get one free offer at Tescos and after using it I discovered that it's the best one I have tried so far. This review will be based on a 200ml (which is the 'New Larger Size apparently). Packaging As I already mentioned above this bottle is 200ml. The tube looks like a rather large tube of toothpaste and it made from soft plastic. The majority of the bottle is a see through blue colour which I find useful as you are always able to see how much gel is left. There is a small red strip on the top of the bottle claiming 'New larger size'. The lid is a darker shade of blue and has a flip lid with a thumb recess to pop it open. The lid is hinged and very easy to open and close. On the back of the tube are instructions and useful tips on how to use the product. There is also a list of the ingredients used to make the gel. Price I bought this tube from Tescos and it cost me £2.48. Another great thing about this product is that it is literally always on the buy one, get one free offer so is fairly reasonably priced for a hair gel. Look Once the gel is out the tube, it is clear in texture. Some hair gels I have used before feel sticky when you get the gel out the packet; this product does not feel very sticky which is an added bonus. If you leave too much gel on your fingers and let it dry, then it can become a little sticky. Smell Another thing I like about this gel is that it is slightly scented. I think it smells quite similar to my Lynx Africa deodorant and leaves my hair smelling nice once I have applied it. Applying It This gel can be applied to dry or damp hair which again is useful if you have just got out the shower and are running late (as I often am!!). I always tend to use this on wet hair, I apply a 50p size dollop on my hand and scrunch it through my hair, trying to spread it evenly. From here, I just let my hair dry naturally (I'm a bloke, I don't do hairdryers!). The result is, my hair stays how I styled it for the remainder of the day and it gives me the 'wet look' which I prefer. By this, I mean that my hair still looks wet, even when it has dried underneath the gel. Does the product work? Out of all the gels I have used over the years, this is my favourite one yet. It holds my hair in place all day, doesn't leave my hair feeling sticky and smells nice. My hair lays flat on my head all day so I am unable to comment on whether this product would work if you want parts of your hair spiky etc. Range Alberto VO5 are one of the leading companies that manufacture hair products. Also included in heir range are items such as shampoo, conditioners and a whole range of styling gels and waxes. Summary I would recommend this product for both males and females to use. It's in a handy size container and is useful to take on holiday as it fits nicely in a toiletry bag unlike some of the hair gel tubs that are on the market. As already stated it is one of Tescos permanent 'buy one get one free' offers so is also good value for money as you get 400ml for £2.48. This gel is easy to wash or brush out at the end of the day and doesn't leave any sort of powdery residue in my hair. My only gripe is that the gel can build up a little on the inside of the lid so you have to regularly wipe it round with a tissue.
All my life I have never used any styling products on my hair but that was until recently when my bob hair cut turned into a short cut (see my profile picture). At first I didn't like my new cut and it was something I needed to get used to, so this is when I decided a styling product was needed so make my hair a little funky and more to my liking while I got used to my new do. When I was in my local Tesco's I was searching for styling products and I came across VO5, straight away I knew VO5 is a good hair brand with their hot oils so I knew this styling product would be good as well. The packaging is what striked me at first, the plastic tube is electric see through blue with a darker pop off lid that the tube stands on. Because the tube is see through you can see the gel inside, the gel has lots of little air bubbles, and I'm not sure if this is a good or bad thing really. The second thing was the price, at little over £3 for 200ml I thought I was on to a winner. As the hold for this product is Mega Hold I thought it would be perfect for my now short hair to stay in place all day and keep me looking funky without a lot of effort. VO5 say this product gives long lasting hold even in the most damp and humid conditions. It is ideal to create shape and texture also easy to wash out. The easy to wash out part is important to me as I would hate to have a build up of product in my hair that is hard to shift. The good thing as well about this product is you can not only apply it to dry hair but you can apply it to damp hair and blow dry or style as usual, so you're not just let with one way to style your hair. The clear product itself comes out easily and with little effort with just a little squeeze of the tube; the gel feels cool to the skin as it is water based and is clear in colour with the usual styling product smell. The smell fades after a few minutes when applied to the hair so there is no need to worry there. The gel feels and looks quite thick at first but once you've rubbed it in between your finger tips it goes very light to the feel. I apply this product to my dry hair and literally rub it between my hair to funk it up a little at the back, I find if you do it quickly you get a better funky look than taking your time over it. I was surprised at how easy it is to style my hair and to get the style I am after. My hair style takes me a few seconds and I am done. I have found when the product has dried there is no sticky residue and you don't have greasy hands after touching your hair like other hair gels. I found if you apply too much product to your hair your hair will look greasy, but doesn't feel it, if it did I would feel self conscious throughout the day and your hair does feel hard but not as mega hold as they make it out to be; I find little is more with this gel. It takes a few minutes for the gel to dry but I find once it is dry your hair looks and feels natural but with hold. The downside of this is the mega hold claim; there is no mega hold in this gel. The hold that I do have when it is first applied seemed to go within hours and my hair doesn't look its funky self like it did in the morning. I wouldn't say when it's worn off your hair looks a mess because it doesn't, it just doesn't have all the hold that you would expert from a mega hold product, which I am disappointed with as with a VO5 product I would have expected their claim to be real. One the plus side though it doesn't seem to dry your hair out like I had expected with any styling products especially when it comes to a styling gel. When it comes to washing your hair this product does wash out incredibly easy, and you're not left with dry or brittle hair. I have used this product every day for about 3 months now and I am nearly half way down the tube, so value for money is super. I just wish the mega hold would hold a lot longer.
