Having tried NUMEROUS products VO% Tame cannot be beaten. This product leaves your hair feeling like Silk and the Shine on hir after usingalways has people commenting on the condistion of my hair.I use this every second day, but straighten my hair every day,and I have NEVER had a "Bad Hair" day.The best Product on the market!!!
My hair has always needed help to look and feel good because it's naturally wavy and quite coarse. I also subject it to being streaked with peroxide every month and sometimes use straighteners so it can become very dry or flyaway - the latter was actually a cruel nickname of mine way back in highschool which I'm still struggling to disprove! I've tried lots of products that promise to make hair easier to manage or free of frizz but I always like to try new things just incase the perfect product should ever appear on the market! I especially feel the need to use a product to protect my hair from further damage whilst straightening it.
VO5 has been a favourite brand of mine for a few years and for a long time I didn't use any other kind of shampoo or conditioner. I found that the products they made (specifically for dry and damaged hair) really helped me achieve more manageable hair. I was therefore very happy to find this Smoothly Does It Tame and Shine Spray in their range.
The product seems to have been on the market for some time although I've never seen or heard of it before. I found mine nestled in some obscure styling products on the store shelf. The product is a 'heat defence' styling aid rather than as a treatment spray so this may explain why it's more difficult to locate in store. In my opinion the packaging does not do enough to distinguish this as a Heat Defence product and implies that it's more like a spray can serum.
The product comes in an aerosol can which is a dinky 100ml sized. The packaging looks different to the Dooyoo picture. Now it's bright pink in colour with the prominant Alberto V05 logo and the product name 'Smoothly Does It' on the front with 'Tame and Shine Spray' printed in smaller letters below. As well as this text there is a small 'Heat Defence' stamp and a few comments about the benefits of the product. It is labelled as having a 'fabulous new fragrance' as well as providing a 'frizz free finish' and effecting 'sleek and shine'.
On the back of the aerosol there is more detailed information about the product. It says that the product has a 'heat activated formula' which is meant for use with straightening irons. The formula can also apparantly protect hair from this dryng heat to provide a glossy finish.
Directions for use state to shake can well prior to using and to apply dry hair after blow drying and then to use straightening irons. The can has a button on the top which shoots out a fine but precise blast of product. It's just like a hair spray can and needs to be held at a little distance from the hair shaft to aid even distribution.
The product has a delicate fragrance. Spray it sparingly to make this scent work well or it can start to smell a little like the chemical mixes at your salon. It's difficult to describe exactly what the fragrance encapsulates - perhaps freshly baked white choc chip cookies. It's a sweet, vanilla scent that is quite mild unless you saturate your hair with the product.
The product is quite thin and watery but effects a slight bubbling when it is sprayed onto hair. As it is so watery you have to make sure to mist it over the whole head and not to get too much on one portion of hair. Otherwise it starts to run down the hair like rain and drip off.
Once I use this I tend to run my fingers through my hair to help distribute this product through the whole of the hair (my hair is quite thick). You could also comb it through. I find that you can feel a slight waxy feeling from the product. It's a little bit like serum but has a drier texture. It does soften hair immediately.
When applying my straighteners my hair sizzles a tiny bit but the product tends to dry quickly as it's so light and watery. Using the product definitely makes the straighteners glide over the hair shaft more easily and also seems to smooth out any kinks and knots along the shaft. Once you have straightened a section of hair you can feel that it has been left with a lovely softness. This works well even on the most dry areas of my hair, such as the bleached ends. In the past I have used products which feel heavy on the hair and which would make me need to wash my hair the day after using but this v05 product is so light that it lets me have straight hair for longer. As for the shine aspect I have to say that I can't really see any difference in the hair in that sense although it looks healthier as it moves better.
This is an effective and helpful treatment for when you need to straighten you hair. I personally would have liked to be able to use this spray as a tamer without using my irons but that is not recommended. It works well to soften dry hair and helps to make straightening an easier experience. The end result is quite good with hair left smelling good, bouncing and flowing and feeling a lot softer with no icky residue. The only thing it falls short at is increasing shine and glossiness. I would buy this again although I feel it is a lot like Toni and Guy's Iron-It Heat Defence Spray which I also use regularly.
Before purchasing this, I wasn't a huge fan of the VO5 range but this spray had completely converted me! I was in need of a heat protection based spray due to regularly blowdrying and straightening my hair, I saw this spray in Boots for around £4 so at that reasonable price I decided to try it and I've honestly never looked back. Consequently, I've been using it for about a year now and it never fails to let me achieve the smooth, professional look I want.
The packaging the product is contained in is a gorgeous deep red, metal bottle and is condensed in a pressurised container so obviously it is quite flammable. I guess you could compare the bottle to the type that deodorant is contained in. Personally, I adore the design, it sits perfectly on my vanity table and has an edgy, modern appeal to it. Clearly, there is the well known VO5 logo on the exterior, aswell as the name of the product 'Tame and Shine.' The bottle really stands out on the haircare aisle in Boots and that was what attracted me to buy it in the first place.
Application of the spray is almost effortless. Remember to shake the can BEFORE using. Before you are about to use heat utensils, just simply spray a light mist over your hair and style. I love the fact that the spray is weightless and isn't heavy like other sprays I have used in the past. Especially after straightening, I can immediately notice a sheer, healthy shine to my hair. On the bottle, it states 'Tames frizz and adds shine for a smooth, frizz free finish' and the product certainly lives up to that - no longer do I have to put up with frizzy, dry hair this spray really gives me fantastic results and I'm sure it would work for all hair types. I have quite frizzy, wavy hair but this spray easily tackles that.
Overall, this is my all time favourite hair product and I would recommend it to anyone. Fortunately, it never fails to give me great results, also the price isn't too expensive. Previously, I've used many over-priced salon hair products and they don't compare to this spray. 5 stars.
I don't straighten my hair daily, but when I do I want it to look good! and this seems to really work.
It has 'heat defence technology', so it's perfect for spraying on your hair just before straightening it. It comes out as a spray, rather than a gel or mousse like other straightening products I've used, but this makes it easy to apply evenly and quickly spray on.
It has a strange fragrance - I wouldn't describe it as bad, and it doesn't seem to last for long though.
The bottle claims that it 'tames frizz & adds shine for a smooth, frizz-free finish' and I'm very happy to say that this is true! My hair is naturally wavy and a bit frizzy, and this tames it really well - it turns out looking really nice after straightening it and using this product. As well as taming my hair, I know that it's protected from the heat of the straighteners which really pleases me - and means I only need to use this one product!
It is quite expensive, usually around £3 but in Boots especially the VO5 range is often on offer - buy one get one free or three for two or a similar deal.
It leaves my hair looking sleek and shiny all day, and it very rarely gets frizzy - even after going out in the rain and wind. Don't add to much though, especially near your roots otherwise it leaves your hair looking greasy rather than a nice shine!
I really like this product, but am reluctant to buy it when it's not on offer!

~ The Packaging ~
This amazing product is housed in a gorgeous red metallic can with a clear lid. On the lid is a small pink sticker stating that it is Cosmopolitan's Beauty Award Winner for 2007. It is easy to spot on the shelves thanks to this modern and classy design. The instructions on the packaging suggest that it gives you the smoothest, glossiest frizz-free finish. Helps protect from heat damage and leaves your hair sleek and glossy - sounds great, but does it actually work?
~ My Experience ~
I was quite surprised that this product was actually an aerosol and not a trigger spray or cream like the hundreds of other hair straightening products on the market. The taming spray has a delicate fragrance that will stay with you well into the day.
The idea is to section off your hair and spray before you run the hair straighteners over it - just one quick spray will coat the hair nicely. There is no burning smell or crackling like your hair is burning as the spray does not leave your hair damp in any way. It makes straightening easy and very quick - just one straighten on each section of hair works for me.
VO5 boasts that this will tame unruly hair. At the time of purchasing this product I was at my wits end. My hair was thick, waist length and very difficult to manage - it was frizzy and very difficult to straighten without my layers flicking out all over the place giving me an unwanted Charlie's Angel barnet! Everything I tried just did no seem to work. The creams would gunk up my hair and the misting sprays would make my hair wet and would frizz on contact with the straighteners. This product however just works wonders. It is the ONLY product that works on my hair and it keeps it straight, sleek and glossy all day long. It also takes away the static from my hair that I suffer from in the Winter and reduces the damage when using heated appliances. My hair has a different texture. It no longer feels like straw but is soft to touch.
The only downside is that if you spray too much at the roots it will make your hair look particularly greasy. That really is the only bad thing with it!
For £3.22 for 100ml it is not a bad price for the magic it has to offer. I usually pick mine up from Boots as they regularly have VO5 products on offer for buy one get one free. Mine only lasts me 3 weeks on average so BOGOF are a must!
I give this product 5 well-deserved DooYoo Stars due to it's faultless performance on my unmanageable mane!
