Alberto VO5 Give Me Moisture Shampoo
by wazza115
Since Lauren was born, I always said I would like to take her to Blackpool to see the illuminations so last year, we book to go for the weekend. Whilst driving there, I had this niggling sensation at the back of mind that I had forgotten something, it wasn't until we were on the M6 that I finally realised I had forgot to pack the shampoo ... and conditioner! So once we had arrived and sorted ourselves out, we called in Boots to pick come up. Because we were only away for a couple of nights, I wasn't concerned about the brand I picked, but I spotted this which was on offer at half price so I picked a bottle of shampoo and conditioner up.
The shampoo comes in a bright pink bottle, which has the brand and range detailed on the front in black and white writing and topped off with a flip top lid. I find that it is quite widely available as I have spotted in most places I have shopped such as Boots, Superdrug, Wilko's and the Supermarkets. There are two different sizes available, a 250ml which retails at around £2 and a 500ml bottle which retails at around £4, although this is a fairly new brand, it does seem to be on offer quite frequently, whether that be half price or 3 for 2.
The shampoo is quite thick and a pearly cream colour, I applied about a 50p sized amount to my shoulder length hair and found that the shampoo lathered up really easily. The shampoo felt quite luxurious when applying and had a lovely fresh and sweet smell. Upon rinsing, I could immediately feel that my hair was much softer and even after drying, although it still had a frizzy element to it, it wasn't as bad as normal and I would say that this definitely helped reduce this.
When I finished styling, my hair looked fantastic; full of moisture with a nice shine to it (my hair never seems to shine). Because we were away in October half term, as you can imagine, it was very windy, but even by the end of the day, my hair still looked fully of moisture.
VO5 also have several different versions to the range such as Cherish Me, Plump Me Up, Revive Me, the bottles all look very similar to this, and the only difference is the name on the front so you do have to be careful to make sure you pick up the correct one. As with most hair products, they always say for best results, use with products from the same range, I did use the conditioner from the same range, but when we returned home, the shampoo ran out before the conditioner so I just used a different conditioner and to be honest, I didn't really notice a difference.
I am quite impressed with the shampoo, because I wash and straighten my hair on a daily basis, it does look and feel quite dry however within a few days of using this, my hair felt and looked really healthy and shiny.
Overall, I would recommend this and the fact that it is frequently on offer, I would give it 5 out of 5 stars.

Alberto Balsam Juicy Green Apple Conditioner
by kat1234
I tend to buy more expensive shampoos and conditioners but every now and then (usually when I run out mid month and need to wait for the next payday!) I opt for a cheaper version. The Alberto Balsam range is definitely one of the cheapest ranges out there, at between £1 and £1.50 for a bottle of 400ml (also currently - June 2013 - on ... offer at Tesco at two bottles for £1.80). This is very cheap for a conditioner so I felt it was worth a try - even if I didn't like it, I had not lost a fortune.
The bottle is, as you would expect for the price, basic and simply designed. It is a rounded cloudy plastic bottle with a flip lid at the top to squeeze the conditioner through. There is a basic label stuck around the front with product information and a picture of green apples on. The bottle itself is easily squeezed so you can remove the last dregs of conditioner easily and effectively.
The conditioner itself is a pale green in colour. It does give off a lovely apple scent when you flip the lid, so it does have a distinctive fruity smell. For me, the conditioner is far too runny and has a slightly greasy feel to it. I find that it slips off my fingers very easily when I try to apply it to my hair leading to substantial product wastage. I only really apply this to the ends of my hair due to the greasiness as I am concerned that this would leave my roots looking oily - I usually apply a conditioner all over my hair. I also use quite a bit of product per application to ensure a decent coverage. The smell during application is pleasant but I do not find that this transfers on to my hair at all, which is a shame. The conditioner rinses out of my hair easily and doesn't leave the ends feeling greasy to the touch (despite my reservations).
I would say that the conditioner does an ok job. Not spectacular but better than not using a conditioner at all. My hair combs through easily after use but does feel a little dry, particularly after continued use. Certainly other conditioners provide me with better results but none are this cheap! As far as value for money goes, I guess for the price I can't really grumble. It is probably not something that I would purchase again but for anyone on a budget, it certainly serves a purpose. Alberto VO5 Extreme Style Matt Clay
by siggsterr
After trying various products on my hair, I finally got round to try this V05 Extreme Matt Clay.
First off, I have short to medium hair length. I usually use a well known hair wax for my hair. But, I fancied something a bit different.
-- Price & Packaging --
The price is pretty steep compared to other hair ... styling products. This cost me around £3.50, with the shops own costing around £1.50. So, I was pretty cautious to say the least.
The packaging can looks very attractive. It certainly caught me eye while I was browsing the shelf. It has a bright blue colour to it, which makes it stand out. It also is a circular shape with a tin circular lid, while all other products were square or a cube type of shape. It's probably one of the reasons why I brought this hair styling product.
-- Smell and Feel --
The smell can only be described as a "sweet manly" scent. It has that sweetness to it which makes you think, "Mmm, this smells nice". But at the the same time it has that male smell to it. Like a mix of the two.
The feel of the matt clay is that of actual clay. If you ever did pottery class at school or just played about with play clay, it feels a lot like that.
You only need a tiny bit for short hair. If you use too much, your hair can look oily or greasy. So be careful.
The style is kind of like a dry, but messed up look. I feel that more can be done with hair with this product than any other hair wax.
-- How long does it last for --
If I'm going out for the evening or going to work in the morning. I find that it lasts around 6-8 hours before the style starts to fade out. I do not reapply throughout the day though. When washing it out, It washes out more or less instantly. A lot better than gel in fact.
-- How does it compare to other products --
I think this is probably the best hair product on the market at the moment. I compared it with a well known hair wax, putty and gel product. It seemed to hold it's own very well. I think the only bad thing about this product is the price. I compared it to a shops own matt clay and found that I got similar results. The shops own being a lot cheaper as well. The one thing I prefer with the V05 Matt Clay is the smell. I get a lot of compliments on how nice my hair smells. But with the shops own, the smell isn't as nice.
-- Overall --
Overall, if you want a new choppy style for your hair, then I would say try this product to see if you like it.
If you have long hair I would advise you to try a different product completely. I'm going to give it a 8/10 overall.
