Advantages: Cheap and effective
Disadvantages: None
Fortunately I do not have a sensitive or flaky scalp but unfortunately Mr Lools does. Therefore an essential item in our shopping trolley is an anti dandruff shampoo suitable for sensitive scalps. For years Mr Lools has used Head and Shoulders and found this product to be effective. However in our review of products and the decision to swap to "cheaper" brands Mr Lools decided to try Asda Sensitive Anti Dandruff Shampoo and has since been converted.
***Packaging***
The packaging is almost identical to the packaging of the Head and Shoulders product. The shampoo comes in a white plastic bottle with a blue snap top lid. The lid on the bottle is quite flimsy and on more than one occasion Mr Lools has snapped off the plastic lid. This isn't so much of a problem as the bottle stays in our bathroom but if you were travelling with this product you would probably find that it could potentially spill.
The bottle is 400ml in size and therefore is quite big and bulky. The claims on the packaging are that this product is colour free and is only lightly fragranced.
Some of the claims on the bottle state that:
This is specially formulated with an ingredient proven to help reduce dandruff, starting from the first wash
Use regularly to help control dandruff and prevent it reoccurring
Leaves hair clean soft and shiny
Suitable for frequent use and for sensitive skin
***Price***
A 400ml tub of this product costs £1 in Asda which I think is excellent value for money. Especially as a similar product from Head and Shoulders costs £2.98 in Asda.
A 400ml bottle used daily lasts Mr Lools around 8 weeks and you do not need a lot of product on the hair to lather up.
***Application***
Directions for use are to wet hair. Massage a small amount of shampoo into the hair and scalp. Rinse thoroughly and repeat if required. Very simple and easy. Mr Lools only ever applies the product once as he does not feel the need to repeat.
The shampoo is a white pearlescent colour and as described on the packaging it is very lightly fragranced. The scent is very much like freshly washed cotton therefore is not for those who like a stronger smelling shampoo.
The shampoo lathers up very well. Mr Lools uses an amount about the size of a 10p piece which turns into a thick white lather. This is quite thick so dos take a reasonable amount of water to rinse out of hair.
Mr Lools did comment that the Asda shampoo is very gentle and it did not sting his scalp at all which is what some products even aimed at sensitive scalps do to him.
The product has not been tested on animals
The product is suitable for vegetarians
***Results***
After using Mr Lools commented that his hair felt very clean and his scalp did not feel at all sore and there was no visible redness.
Although the product is only very lightly scented hair smells very clean and fresh.
One issue Mr Lools has with shampoo is that because he has naturally quite greasy hair many sensitive shampoos do not tackle this and by the end of the day his black hair looks quite greasy. The product from Asda is very soft and does not irritate his scalp yet it cleans his hair so much so that if he doesn't wash his hair the following day it still looks clean and grease free.
Most importantly the product is just as effective as the more expensive Head and Shoulder product for keeping hair flake free and Mr Lools found that he had no dandruff when using this product. In fact Mr Lools felt the Asda shampoo was more effective that the Head and Shoulders product and it kept his scalp from feeling tight and itchy which sometimes used to occur when he used Head and Shoulders.
***Overall***
This is a great product and one that Mr Lools will continue to use and actually prefers to the Head and Shoulders product which is double the price of this shampoo from Asda.
Hair and scalps remain flake free and the shampoo does not irritate even the most sensitive of scalps. A shampoo which actually lives up to the claims on the packaging at a bargain price. Five out of five.
Summary: An anti dandruff shampoo from Asda for sensitive scalps
