Advantages: Smells amazing, lasts ages, very cheap

Disadvantages: I prefer Johnson's.

Somehow, I've managed to spend an extortionate amount of money while I've been at University. I don't know where it's all gone, but my bank balance informs me that it's definitely gone somewhere. Because of this, I've been trying to save money wherever I can: from buying cheap food, less clothes, drinking less, as well as buying cheaper versions of beauty products. I adore Johnsons' Baby Shampoo, and wrote a glowing review of it a few months back, in which I stated that I would probably never use a different shampoo again, but when my last bottle ran out, I couldn't quite bring myself to spend £2.50 on another one. Instead I decided to try Asda's own brand, as I found a 750ml bottle of lemon scented shampoo for only 57p, which smelt nice enough, and I thought that if it was rubbish, at least I hadn't spent a fortune on it. Fortunately, however, I loved it, and so not long ago when I went to the hair care aisle in Asda again I decided to stock up on cheap shampoo, which is how I came to try this apple scented shampoo. I would be reviewing the lemon version if I had the choice, but since I can't find it on the internet or on dooyoo, I'm writing about the apple one for now.

So, you may be wondering what Asda's Apple Shampoo is like. Well, in short, it's great. It smells just like a cut green apple, which was a nice surprise, as I was expecting the type of smell that you get from apple flavoured sweets, but was more impressed with the actual fragrance. It was a scent that I was happy to rub into my hair, as if it lingered after washing, I'd be quite happy for it to follow me around. I normally use DKNY Be Delicious perfume, which is a similar apple fragrance to this shampoo, so I felt as if this hair product suited me and it felt familiar even the first time I used it. Unfortunately, the smell didn't really last long after I got out of the bath, though I can smell it subtly if I smell my hair directly.

Of course, the scent of a shampoo is irrelevant if it doesn't do its job of cleaning hair, but fortunately, Asda's product delivers on both accounts. After washing (along with rinsing and repeating once), my hair feels nice and clean, as well as soft to touch. It has as nice a texture and appearance as if I'd used a much more expensive brand, such as Pantene or Tresemme, though at a mere fraction of the price. I am happy with the appearance of my hair even hours later, and after drying and straightening, which is exactly what I want from a shampoo, so in terms of effectiveness, I am happy.

Since this shampoo is Asda's own brand and costs only 58p, it is unsurprising that the packaging is fairly basic: a plastic bottle with the name, instructions and ingredients printed on it, with the shampoo inside, and that's all really. If you're looking for something sexy looking to put in your bathroom, you'll probably be a bit disappointed, but if that doesn't bother you too much, you should be delighted with this product.

So, in conclusion, Asda's Apple Shampoo is amazing, and is something that I would heartily recommend, especially to those of you who are trying to cut down on your outgoings. As well as being considerably cheaper than most shampoos, it also lasts a lot longer: my lemon scented version of the same size has lasted me for over a month already and it's only half empty, and the apple one should last me about the same length of time, and that's with washing my hair on average once a day. At roughly 30p for a month of clean hair, this shampoo is much more than a bargain, it's just ridiculous! The only bad thing that I will say about it is that I still prefer Johnson's Baby Shampoo, though not due to any faults in Asda's variety, only because Johnson's is so good! All in all, this is a fantastic shampoo whatever your hair type, and I suggest that you go out and try it or its lemon cousin.

Summary: A very cheap apple scented shampoo from Asda.

I don't think that apple smells very clean. I think cucumber is nicer.

I hate the taste of apple but love the smell of it, so as long as I do not drink this I should be ok with it LOL!
