Advantages: Cheap, works a treat for me
Disadvantages: Initilly dries out the hair, does stink on the head for a good few hours
Just lately I have been suffering with a really itchy scalp. I have shoulder length hair and up until recently haven't had any issues with dandruff to the best of my knowledge ever...until my best mate Liz pointed out I had a snow storm going on, on my head. Actually I don't but I can't deny that for some reason of late I have been suffering with bouts of dandruff.
This dandruff is little white bits scattered near my scalp that are of course dry flaky bits of skin. Luckily I'm not caked in the stuff and it isn't clinging on to my scalp for grim death either however I knew the problem needed sorting out as I didnt want it to make me start to lack confidence and/or that I got paranoid!
This I bought in my local Asda stores costing only £1.00. Up until this point I had been using Vosene that I had got from Poundland however they had run out of it and everything on the shelves at Asda like this that they stocked was more expensive so having tried a few 'Protect' items and rather liking them in the past from Asda I decided to give this one a go.
The Packaging:
This shampoo comes in a white plastic bottle with a flip dark green lid to the top of it which conceals a small hole. On the front of it we are told that it is Protect Shampoo 'Medicated' and that its for frequent use and for healthy hair and scalp and that it is indeed an Asda product. On the back of the bottle other information listed includes being told a bit about the product and how to use it, the ingredients an size are stated (which is 300ml and the only size I have seen this available to purchace in by the way), we are also told that this is suitable Vegetarians and contact details for Asda are given. This is a rather medical looking item really opposed to lot of other shampoos that I buy and it is very unisex in its appearance too.
Using It:
Well using this of course is the same as you would do with any other shampoo. Damp/wet hair and take a blob and massage hair through with it and then rinse it clean and you can repeat this if you want to (as I aways do) and there is no matching available conditioner to this so if you want to I guess you can use anything you want though I don't with this and use it as its meant to be used and as a treatement product.
The liquid is a thin, dark brown and transparent liquid with a sort of fresh pine and medicated fragrance to it. A little of this lathers really well on my hair though I did because of the fragrance it has expect it to tingle on my scalp which thankfully it did not. I can't say that the fragrance of this is fabulous but it is a fresh and clean smell to be fair to it and I was happy with the amount of lather I got from it and the fact that it was easy to rinse out as well.
However this dries my hair out considerably when first used. Once washed my hair squeeks and feels very dry particulary at the ends of it and I struggle to get a comb through it. However once I have done thats that I can get on with drying and styling my hair.
Although this initially made my damp hair feel dried out this has turned out to be a great buy for me. Not only does my scalp and hair feel clean, I have noticed no reappearance of the dandruff I have previously got rid of with the help of the Vosene shampoo I was using. My hair feels stronger and certainly has a healthy shine to it and I also notice that my greasy roots stay at bay a lot longer, whether this is to with this shampoo or the fact that I am no longer using condioner at the moment, well I'm not sure to be perfectly honest with you.
This is an economical, gentle shampoo for all the family to use if they want to and I really do like it for the effects it gives me and the price of it! Recommended by me!
Only available from Asda stores and from Asda.com
Summary: A good product in my humble opinion!
