Advantages: cheap
Disadvantages: smell
Our food bill has been getting a little out of hand again recently so my husband stepped in and we wrote an exact menu of what we would need over a two weekly basis. We scanned the pages on Asda.co.uk and looked at what we could cut back on. One of the things that bought about a little 'discussion' was the shampoo and conditioner that we are using; I have dyed blonde hair so need a good one whereas Andrew doesn't have a lot of hair and can get a way with any. In the end it was decided that I would stick to my usual and he would have a try of this Asda smartprice one which cost us 12p for a 500ml bottle. Now I just couldn't resist giving this a whirl when we finally had it delivered because if it was good then I would drop my normal shampoo and if it was bad then I could wind Andrew up!
The bottle looks awful and is what you would expect from the smartprice range. There is quite a bulky, screw top lid that comes off easily. There is no squeezing of the bottle with this one, it just pours out of the top with ease and is a shimmery, peach colour.
The shampoo is quite thick and didn't slop off my hand as soon as it hit my palm. It also stayed put when I massaged both of my hands together. It was easy enough to apply to my hair and although I needed a little bit more than usual, it lathered up well and seem to be like any other normal shampoo.
The smell of the shampoo isn't particularly very nice and made me 'cough' a little. I prefer fruity shampoo's but this has more of a floral scent that is quite strong. It reminds me of a cheap bar of soap!
It rinsed out easily enough and didn't leave any residue on my head or near my scalp. My hair felt just as clean as when I use my other stuff and I was quite satisfied at this point. I did apply conditioner after the shampoo because my hair needs it as it's in quite a bad state after all of the bleaching.
When my hair was dry, I was happy with the results. It felt soft and clean and because I had used my regular conditioner, it didn't smell bad.
I don't think I'd make a habit of using this because in the long term I don't think it would be good on my bleached hair but if I wasn't dying my hair regularly then I would definitely consider it.
If you're a man who doesn't have much hair or a woman who is prepared to use conditioner as well then I think you may find that this shampoo isn't half bad!
Summary: A fairly good shampoo

- 19/07/09 I tried this and as you say it was alright. I just imagined my hair feeling like straw and I probably used more conditioner as a precaution! |
