“ Brand: Aveda / Type: Hair Lotion / Subcategory: Hair Treatment „
I must admit I am terrible to my hair. I wash, dry and straighten it every day, therefore using a lot of heat on it. This product was one of the more expensive heat treatments on the market so I expected better results than I have had before using other products of this kind, I was pleased with the results but I would have expected a little more for a product of this price.
I bought this at my hair dressers on recommendation for what I think was between £12 and £15 for 200ml.
I am a fan of the aveda products especially because of the smell and this product was no different. I used this product every morning on damp hair and it did smooth on just as the product said. I didn't need to use that much of the lotion to apply the lotion to all of my hair from roots to ends which was slightly surprising. Once my hair was blow-dried I would have to say that my hair did hang straighter than it would have done if I had not used the lotion but I did still need to straighten my hair quite a lot for i to be totally straight.
The product claims to
-resist effects of humididty
I however feel the product only works for two out of three of these claims. I would say it did not really smooth all of my flyaways as I still had a few even after this product was used. Though it did boost shine and almost completely resist effects of humidity.
I would say his product was quite successful but maybe not worth the price as I have found other cheaper products which produced about the same results.
I am very unkind to my hair, it falls somewhere between curly and frizzy and I've used various different serums/straightening lotions and balms to try and tame it but I always come back to Aveda's Hang Straight lotion. On the bottle the lotion claims that it "smooths flyaways, boosts shine, resists effects of humidity on curly or wavy hair".
I personally bought my 200ml bottle from the "Aveda Experience Centre" in Brighton for around £14, which was a lovely shopping experience (I seem to remember them offering me a cup of tea while I browsed their products and they loaded me up on free sample once I'd made my purchase). Their products are also available for purchase on their website aveda.co.uk with this product in particular currently being listed as £14.68 for 200ml (standard delivery is £3.95 or free if you spend over £75 and yet more free samples). Of course if you'd rather visit an actual shop and speak with the helpful staff the website also has a store/salon finder.
The company prides itself on being very eco friendly and I recommend a visit to their website to see all the work they've done for charities and indigenous communities. You can also learn about how they source their ingredients and read about their mission to provide "authentic beauty".
On to the actual product. As I mentioned earlier it costs around £14 for a 200ml bottle, which does seem rather high, although I've found that a little goes a long way. I've had one bottle last well over 10 months. I have a lot of hair that reaches a few inches below my shoulders and I tend to use around a 20p sized amount which I then spread through my hair, concentrating on the ends. The smell is difficult to describe, it's rather unusual but not at all unpleasant, it smells quite clean and natural but it does not linger (I applied some to my hair about half an hour ago and now can only smell my conditioner). One thing that used to make me worry slightly is the fact that it leaves your hands and hair slightly sticky, however this disappears as soon as your hair is dry and does not make it any harder to comb through. The texture of the product is like a thick, slightly sticky lotion which is surprisingly easy to distribute through hair (damp hair only - this is what is recommended on the bottle as this product is not suitable for use on dry hair).
Personally, I notice a difference as soon as my hair starts to dry, instead of drying curly my hair is a lot straighter - especially the longer layers that are underneath which dry almost completely straight. This makes styling with flat irons a lot quicker and easier and therefore probably a lot less stressful on the hair itself. It is probably worth mentioning that I also use this product if I want wavy hair, instead of using flat irons I apply it as normal to my damp hair and scrunch dry with a diffuser - this gives me nice, well behaved waves. My hair also feels softer and healthier when using this product as opposed to others which tend to leave hair feeling heavy or greasy.
The effects of this lotion seem to last well, I wash my hair roughly every other day and it seems to resist humidity pretty well during that time but I can't really comment on time periods longer than that.
I definitely recommend this product, yes it is rather pricey but it's so effective and it goes such a long way that I won't hesitate to replace it when my current bottle runs out.

If you are addicted to your GHDs and just can't imagine a day going by without your poker straight hair, then this is the product for you. I use this every day after washing my hair, on damp hair - just a small blob about the size of a 5 p piece, and work it through my hair. It glides on, and definitely helps smooth and protect my hair as the hair dryer and irons do their thing at taming my wild locks. The product is easy to use, and is thick enough to not drip out of your hands while you use it, but is liquid enough to easily spread through your hair. It definitely helps to protect your hair from the heat, and I've noticed a definite improvement in the overall condition of my hair since I started using it. Has a lovely smell too, so your hair smells like it did when you left the salon every day.
