I regularly have my hair coloured at my local hairdresser's salon and find that I need to buy specially designed hair products to try and maintain the colours (three in total) on my hair and stop it from fading.

Such products seem to either fail miserably or work wonders, and I personally find most of them seem to fluctuate from one extreme to the other.

Given that I work as an Avon representative and therefore have a huge amount of experience in buying and selling (and using) many Avon products from several of their different ranges, it occurred to me recently that I had not tried a hair shampoo from their 'Advance Techniques' range of hair care products for quite some time - several years in fact.

It was with an ounce of hesitation then that I ordered the Avon alternative to my usual brand of shampoo, to give it a trial.

The Avon 'Advance Techniques Colour Protection Shampoo' costs £2.65 but I got it in a recent offer and it cost me £1.25. Whilst I am on the subject, the Advance Techniques range of hair care products - which includes everything from conditioners and shampoos to styling products - is one of the Avon ranges that seem to have an offer on most often. Quite often I find that the products are half price, which is a really good bargain.

Anyway, when the shampoo arrived within the rest of my Avon order quite recently (a few months ago) I was given the opportunity to try it out later that day as my hair was due a wash!

I found that the packaging is fairly sleek and quite sophisticated looking, with a bright pink-coloured lid to make it easily recognisable as being for 'coloured hair'. The lid is a flip-up design which I found to be quite easy to use - even with wet hands!

The shampoo has a pleasant enough smell, without being over-powering. I didn't think that the smell was too flowery or feminine which may be a plus point for some people! The aroma from the shampoo had a definite whiff of something quite clinical, or a 'clean' smell and I found it to be pleasant to use.

The shampoo lathered up quite nicely and very easily, which meant that I only needed to use quite a small amount, this being sufficient for my slightly-longer-than-shoulder-length hair. I remember thinking at the time that this would mean that my bottle would last quite a fair amount of time, thus making it even better value for money.

I also found that the shampoo was easy enough to rinse from my hair, which I couldn't say was the case with other similar products I have used before. Anyway, after rinsing, I used my usual (alternative brand) colour-protection conditioner and was keen to see the results.

After drying, my hair had a nice sheen to it, although I think this is probably due to the conditioner I use (it's a very high quality one) rather than the Avon shampoo. There was no detection of the pleasant scent of the shampoo lingering on my hair - again I think it was over-taken by my conditioner.

All in all, I found it was a pleasant enough product to use on my tresses, and I was fairly impressed with it thus far. The main point of buying this type of shampoo though, had been to see if it would preserve my hair colour.

It was with a huge amount of disappointment then, that after a week or two of using this shampoo I noticed that one of the patches of colour at the front of my hair (which happens to be a bright purple colour - heh) was starting to fade noticeably! I couldn't believe it as it had only just been coloured a few weeks earlier! I was horrified, and rather gutted.

Whilst I know that these bright colours are more prone to fading than any other, I know how long roughly I can get out of such colours before they start to fade, as I have been getting the purple one for about a year and a half now.

Horrified, I quickly switched back to my usual brand of colour protection shampoo but alas - the damage had been done, and there was no way AT ALL that the fading could be reversed.

This meant that I had to get the patch of colour re-done at my hairdressers shortly afterwards, as it was fading beyond recognition. Being so close to the front of my face, the fading was highly noticeable.

The practice of using this shampoo had therefore failed. Not only did it NOT stop my colour fading, it faded it so badly that I needed an extra trip to the hairdressers!

So much for this product being a bargain then....!

I wouldn't recommend the shampoo for heavily coloured or chemically treated hair. If your hair does NOT fall into either of these categories then you might want to try it LOL.

Only one star from me, as I found it didn't live up to its claims or do anything other than wash my hair.

The whole experience was a huge disappointment that ended up costing me a fortune - bah! >:-o

Summary: A BIG LET-DOWN! :-(
