Advantages: glossy finish, smooths frizz

Disadvantages: Smell, glass bottle

One hair product I always use is serum. Having thick, frizz-prone hair I need something to smooth away the flyaway hairs and give it a glossy sheen, and serums are the only product I've found which do this. I got a bottle of Avon's Advanced Techniques Dry End Serum in a gift set recently, although I had used it some years back.

~Packaging~

The design of the bottle has now changed from the picture that Dooyoo have provided. It comes in a glass bottle, with a garish lime green pump dispenser. It did also come with a small, clear plastic lid, but that has long been lost. Apart from the odd choice of lime green, one of the main negatives about the bottle is that it is made of glass, which makes it heavy to carry around in your bag, and of course breakable. Another thing which drives me mad about this, as that once you get near to the end of a bottle, despite pressing the pump repeatedly the serum will not come out - the bottle I have, has about 1cm of serum left in the bottom, and it will no longer come out through the pump, the pump has to be unscrewed, the bottle turned upside down, and shook hard to get the remaining product out. Hardly convenient.

~Using it~

To use this, you simply dispense some of the product into the palms of your hands, rub together and then run over the hair - especially concentrating on the ends.
Once in the palm of your hand, you will notice that the serum has a fragrance to it - I cannot put my finger on what it is exactly (perhaps coconut?), but I think the smell is too sweet and fairly sickly - I'm not keen on it at all.
The product is clear in appearance and is not too thick - in fact it's quite runny compared to some I've used. I think it's the fact that it's quite runny, which makes it easy to run through the hair.
It will leave your hands fairly greasy, so they will need to be washed straight after using this.

~Results~

As this is not too thick, I think it is easier to apply to the hair as it gives a fairly natural sheen, rather than looking like an oil slick. It does its job of calming flyaway hairs well and tames frizz in general. As for dry ends, there is some slight improvement after applying this product, it did reduce their appearance slightly, and made hair look a bit healthier. It didn't feel heavy on my hair either and the results seemed to last all day.

~Price~

This costs £4.50 for a 30ml bottle, although it is often on special offer. I actually received mine in a gift set I got free with a purchase. I would not pay £4.50 for it, as I think there are better ones on the market for a lower price. As it's an Avon product it can only be bought from your local rep or www.avonshop.co.uk

~Verdict~

I would consider using this again, but only if it was on special offer- I wouldn't pay full price. I didn't like the fact it came in a heavy glass bottle, and I didn't like the smell. The results though were pretty impressive, it gave a lovely shine, and made my hair look healthier.

Summary: Avon hair serum
