Advantages: works well, smells nice, inexpensive, lasts ages

Disadvantages: none

The item from the Advance Techniques Straight and Sleek range I purchased was the Ultra Smoothing Balm. I have wavy hair so without straighteners I knew this wasn't going to make me "straight and sleek" however I have very flyaway hair too and the slightest contact with a jumper or someone's hand can set my hair off in a frenzy of electrical activity.

Having tried alot of different shampoos and conditioners that didn't help I resorted to some of this balm. I don't normally use much in the way of styling products, just a blast of hairspray and I'm ready to go but recently I decided to grow my shoulder length hair longer so realised I'd need help to control it.

I paid about £1.50 for it several months ago and the fact I still have lots left means you only need a tiny amount. I find large pea size is plenty, even on my thick hair, or you can overload your hair and make it feel heavy.

The tube is 100ml in size, a cream colour with a green logo and green and grey writing. The product is semi-opaque and white in colour, rather like the glue used at schools! It does feel a bit sticky where you've had it on your hands but this doesn't happen once it's on your hair.

The scent is fresh and reminds me of cucumber mixed with a light fruity perfume but isn't so strong it overpowers your perfume, it just leaves a subtle fragrance on the hair.

The instructions are to apply to damp hair then dry. That's it! I rub a blob between my hands then smooth it over my hair. I've used this on damp and dry hair though and it works fine on either. It does smooth the hair and I imagine if you used straighteners you would get a nice shine to your hair but as I don't what I get is no static (yippee!) so I can touch things without getting a shock and it also gives my hairstyle some separation and definition.

The product washes out easily and leaves no residue in the hair either.

Overall it's a very nice product, smells lovely, works, lasts ages and I've found no negatives. Recommended.

Summary: Thoroughly recommended
