Advantages: Reasonably priced, leaves hair shiny

Disadvantages: Can leave hair feeling lank and weighed down if you use too much

I have tried a good few Avon products and I must admit it is a small percentage that I have liked enough to buy again. Their Advanced Techniques Heat Protection Styler spray is one of the few products that I do rate highly. It is aimed at protecting hair from the harshness of regularly blow drying and using heat products such as straighteners or curling tongs on it. It claims to give smooth and healthy hair by sealing the hair cuticle to help protect it from styling damage. A 100ml bottle costs £4 so it is not extortionate by any means - I'd say more expensive than Boots and supermarket own brands but cheaper than the premium professional brands. It is regularly on special offer meaning you can get an extra bottle cheaply when you buy 2.

It comes in a white bottle with red accents and black lettering, and a red atomiser spray nozzle. It sprays easily without you having to press the button down too hard, but the product does seem to spray out in a blanket-type formation which tends to make me cough a bit being so close to my mouth. It does not smell great - it has a quite strong chemical smell, but it is not unpleasant just, well, chemical as opposed to fruity or floral. It is not really noticeable once you have dried and styled your hair, and at the end of the day the job it does or doesn't do is more important than whether it makes you smell nice - that is what perfume is for. It certainly does not have an offensive scent which is the most important thing.

You spray it onto hair before styling, so I spray it on when my hair has been towel-dried, before I use the hairdryer or straighteners but just a small amount. I find that for optimum shine it is better to then spray it onto each dry section of hair before straightening it.

It works well and gives a nice sleek look. However I find that if you use too much it makes hair feel claggy and weighed down, which is why I just use the lightest of sprays before drying and use more when my hair is dry. Using it on dry hair makes it easier to judge if you have gone a bit overboard on the quantity used so you can use less on the next section.

Summary: If your budget doesn't stretch to premium professional brands this is the product for you!
