Advantages: Reduces the 'starkness' of grey hairs.
Disadvantages: Smudges on finger tips and not as good as the 'real thing'!
This was given to me by one of my Auntie's. Nearing 40 and having had the first signs of ageing in the form of grey hairs since my late 20s, I am constantly having to have my hair dyed in order to reduce the signs of ageing!!
My hair grows so fast and is dark so after only about a week some little grey hairs are already rearing their ugly heads!
- Price and Packaging -
This is currently £4.50 on the Avon website.
It comes in, inside of which is an item that looks just like a mascara. It has a screw top lid and has a brush on the end of it, identical to mascaras that I have used.
There are three shades available: black, brunette and light brown.
- What does Avon say about it? -
~ Formulated to instantly blend away grey roots.
~ Creates a natural, flawless look.
~ No-mess, precision applicator which deposits an even application of colour.
~ Will not flake or rub off.
~ Shampoos out easily.
- My experience of using it! -
I tend to parten my hair in sections, at the front, that's where the grey stands out the most and around my ears - goodness, that paints a lovely picture of an ageing 38 year old!!
The instructions state that it's best to brush through once applied to ensure an even finish which does indeed help.
I 'stroke' it on the grey bits and wait for it to dry. Avon says that it is quick drying but don't stipulate a time which gets them out of any false advertising claims! So here's my chance to let the consumer know..... It takes approximately 5minutes to dry and although they say that it doesn't 'rub off' it does however leave black smudges on your fingers as you 'parten' different sections of your hair and touch the bits that aren't dry!
Once on your hair, however they are correct in the following claims:
~ Doesn't flake
~ Shampoos out easily
As far as their claim that it doesn't rub off - having used it a couple of hours ago, as I constantly fiddle with my hair, it is still leaving little black smudges on my fingertips. So be prepared to have finger tips that look as if you have been cleaning out a real fire - reminds me of my youth!
Since my grey is worst around the sides of my hair line, I have to be careful when applying it otherwise the black goes on to my scalp which is an obvious give-way of a touch up of grey hair!
This 'potion' has a slightly floral smell to it which I'm not personally that keen on but it isn't so overpowering that all the people around you can smell.... This is a fact as I have asked some very honest friends!
- So does it hide my grey?-
Having got quite a bit of grey at the moment as I'm waiting until just before the full blown festivities to get it done, it certainly hasn't covered all of it..... However in this product's defence, it has 'watered' it down and definitely looks less obvious which is fine by me.
- Overall -
Advantages:
~ A quick fix for those unsightly grey locks.
~ Cheaper than a visit to the hairdressers at £40 - £60 for a basic colour!
Disadvantages:
~ Smudges on my finger tips as I fiddle with my hair.
~ Obviously not as efficient than a full colour.
Summary: An ok quick fix remedy to grey hairs!
