Avon Large Barrel Brush
Advantages: It looks nice
Disadvantages: It doesn't work
For as long as I can remember my hair has always been the same style wise. Its long, boring and is pretty much flat to my head. A couple of weeks ago I decided I wanted a change and since I was too scared to get my long hair chopped off I decided it might be worth trying to add extra volume to my flat hair creating a different look. Along with a selection of volume shampoos and hair products I bought this large barrel brush from Avon.
This brush cost me £5.20 which is the online price and as far as I'm aware it's the catalogue price too. The brush, in appearance is excellent, I think it looks very stylish and professional. It has a sleek red handle and the outer barrel area is also the same in appearance. The inside of the barrel area is metal creating a lovely colour contrast between the red and silver.
The brush, as stated in the title is the large barrel brush but they are available in different sizes. I would suggest that this large brush be used for people who have long thick hair. The brush is very simple in design; it has the large metal barrel which is occupied by multiple holes. This then has the brush bristles coming out of each hole. There are multiple bristles in each hole creating a large surface of bristles evenly circling the barrel head.
When it comes to performance there are unfortunately several issues with this brush. Firstly, due to the fact that the bristles are loose to enable them to work around your hair they are prone to slipping under the metal barrel. The first time I used this brush I was brushing my hair with metal by the end because the majority of the bristles had fallen through. These are then a terrible pain to get back out again; I had to do a dreadful amount of prodding and poking with a pencil or two.
The idea of the brush is to use it whilst blow drying your hair to add volume, the hair wraps around the brush as well as lifting of the head allowing volume to be added and to ensure that the hair is not flat to the head. This brush is the first of this kind that I have bought so I cannot make comparisons but I didn't think that it made an overly large difference to my hair, to be honest it just took longer to dry and it also burnt my head and fingers when the metal got hot.
Perhaps someone with more beauty knowledge than I have might be able to use this brush better and get a better use from it but I personally think that it's no good because of the fact that the bristles are always falling into the barrel head. I really don't think it is worth the hassle and I will be sticking to my regular brush from now on. It doesn't get my recommendation.
