Avon Paddle Brush
Advantages: Good quality and works well on long hair to keep it smooth.
Disadvantages: Handle could be improved upon.
A few years back, a friend at work used to bring her Avon brochure in to work and whilst flicking through it I spotted some brushes which were part of a promotional special price at around £2- £3 each at the time. I noticed these paddle brushes but didn't really like the look of them and thought they would be awkward to use, but I did order a vented brush instead. When it came, I was impressed with the quality of the brush for the price I paid and it was a really good hairbrush.
Not long after my purchase, my daughter mentioned paddles brushes. She has long hair too and regularly used straighteners on her wavy hair and told me the hairdresser had mentioned using a paddle brush. Christmas was approaching and I bought her a paddle brush from the Toni & Guy range in Boots. It was around the £8 mark at the time and she was delighted with it.
I thought back to when I saw them in my friend's Avon brochure and decided that if these brushes were ever on promotion again, I would buy one and try it. Although I was happy with my vented hairbrush, my daughter enthusing about her paddle brush made me keen to try it out and I thought that if I bought one for £2 or £3 then it wasn't a lot of money to spend if I didn't like it.
It was only a couple of months or so after this that I spotted these paddle brushes once again in my friend's Avon brochure and they were priced at just £3. The regular price at the time was £7 and so it was quite a bargain and I ordered one.
My paddle brush arrived shortly afterwards and once again I was impressed by the quality of Avon hairbrushes. Whilst I would have preferred a black hairbrush like my vented brush and not a pinky-red colour like this paddle brush was, it didn't bother me too much. I am just not personally a lover of anything pink. Earlier incarnations of this brush have been black or red and I would have personally preferred either of these to a pinky coloured one.
The brush itself is larger than my vented brush, its size approx 24.6cm x 8.2cm. There was a hole at the end of the handle, which I presume is to hang it up by if you so wish, but this isn't something that was useful to me.
I found the handle itself wasn't as comfortable to hold in my hand as my vented brush and if I have one niggle about this brush other than the colour, it would be that I wish the handle was a slightly thicker shape with a little more grip. Because of the wide paddle brush at the top of the handle, I do think it would be easier to use if the handle offered a little more grip, as the brush has slipped from my hands on occasion when using it.
The bristles on the brush are plastic and attached firmly to the pad, with small plastic balls at the top of the bristles. I have been using this brush for a fairly long time and just like my vented brush, have never had any problems with bristles becoming detached, nor have any of the plastic balls came off the bristles.
The paddle brush glides easily and effortlessly through my hair and I especially find it a great brush to use when using straighteners as it minimises static and helps keep my hair looking smooth. I have naturally wavy hair and it can become frizzy at times and I find using this paddle brush to be a great help as it smooths out my hair.
I am happy to recommend this paddle brush from Avon, particularly if you can purchase it at a bargain price as I did. It is currently priced at £5.25 instead of £7.50 from www.avonshop.co.uk. I would have given it five stars but I do think the handle could be improved upon and I don't care much for the colour, but other than that it is a great quality brush.
Summary: A good quality hairbrush from Avon.
