Advantages: affordable, good design

Disadvantages: can struggle with knots

I always like to keep a hairbrush with me in my handbag for when I need to give my hair a bit of a tidy. Having fine hair it can get tangled easily especially when it is windy. I used to carry a normal hair brush around with me but after I had finally had enough of getting stray hairs in my handbag and little bits stuck in the brush I decided I needed something different so purchased the Avon pop up brush.

**Design of the brush**

Basically this is a small red brush that comprises of 2 sections. The first section covers the brush and flips out to reveal a mirror. The second section is the brush that once it is unveiled you can press through the back to pop it out. There are many versions of this type of brush that are available and the design to this one is not really any different.

The brush itself looks quite small and it is no trouble fitting it into a small bag but I was worried about how it would work with my hair.

**Using the brush**

As I mentioned previously I have fine hair which can get knotty so I have tried this brush on numerous occasions when my hair has been in a variety of states.

When my hair is already smooth this brush glides through my hair very easily with no trouble at all.

However, when my hair is slightly knotty or just a bit untidy the brush has a couple of problems.
Even going through the smallest of knots the brush pulls ands tugs and my hair and it is not very comfortable at all. It takes a good few tries to get it to go through a knot.

The problem also with going through untidy hair is that the brush tries to pop itself back in as the cushion backing isn't very hard or sturdy. I have found that I need to use one finger to press against the cushion backing.

Despite these problems the final result from brushing my hair with this brush is fairly good. It looks soft and smooth.

**Using the mirror**

The mirror that is attached to this brush is not very big. It is long and thin in its design and you cannot see a great deal with it. I certainly can't see the whole of my head to see if my hair is tidy which I thought would be the purpose of this mirror. However, I can see my face so I can see if my makeup is ok whilst on the move.

**Price and availability**

This product is only available from Avon and is priced at £3.25.

**Conclusion**

This is a fairly average brush but it does the job and solves the problem I had with carrying a normal hair brush in my bag. I will continue to use this brush but perhaps would not purchase it again from Avon as it can probably be found cheaper elsewhere.
