Avon Pop Up Brush
Advantages: Great for your handbag
Disadvantages: Can become scruffy
The brush itself
The brush is on the whole made of plastic which is thick and sturdy. It has a long thin brush head at the top of the brush with a fair amount of bristles to provide a good area to brush your hair so works fine with long hair as well as short. Then on the handle is a small compact mirror so you can see what you are doing while brushing your hair. Although the handle is rather thin and not the most comfortable to hold you are still able to get an adequate grip on it and the main reason it is so small helps provide the benefit of it being easily portable.
It is designed to fold down into a small compact item that can be carried around with you easily. This means the brush folds in two the bristles of the brush fold into the back of the brush and the mirrored handle folds up and over this until it is small and compact maybe to the size of a small ruler so even with a tiny hand bag this can still be carried round for on the go use.
It can brush knots out with little effort needed and without puling or ripping my hair and generally make my hair look neater after being outside in the lovely Scottish weather.
As I mentioned previously it has a rather thin yet long brush head and although I initially thought this would have a problem with my long hair and take forever to brush it all actually it does not do too badly as it is long so works through a lot of my hair at a time. I have medium thick hair and I can style my hair up if needed to and it easily picks up the hair and directs it in the direction it needs to be.
My daughter has really fine hair and it works well through hers too although it is slightly more difficult to pick up all her hair I am still able to put it up easily enough. The bristles are a standard length apart as most brush and have a rounded edge so they do not scratch your head in use making them soft and kind on your head.
It is very easy to open up simply pull the brush and the handle apart and push the head of the brush outwards until it clicks then repeat the opposite way to close back up within a matter of seconds.
As I have found with all of Avon's range of hair brushes although they are sturdy easy to use and do the job they are intended for the paint seems to chip very easily. As this one is carried around with me in my handbag this has had a lot of bashing around against other things in my bag and as a result the red paint has chipped away revealing a black undercoat and now the brush looks like t is 10 years old rather than 10 months old. This brush now looks very scruffy and although it still works to brush my hair cosmetically it looks ready for the rubbish bin.
I was a little worried with all the banging and rattling in my bag the mirror would break but there is not a scratch on it and it is in full working order which is a great addition. None of the bristles has fallen out which I have found to be a problem with other compact brushes and the hinge still remains intact even after the amount of times it has been opened and re closed.
While brushing my hair on occasion the bristles fold back into themselves as if preparing to close back up into it compact form this can be rather annoying as you then have to open it back up fully by popping it into place and restarting over brushing my hair.
This is a handy brush for carrying around with you while you're out and about that does the job it is intended for. It retails at around £5 but as always you can get it on offer and I paid around £2.50 for this brush which has lasted over 10 months so far and although it is a little tatty looking it still works. It is light, durable and even has a mirror on it for £5 what more could you ask for.
Summary: A handy item for your handbag
