Advantages: Head Lice hate it!, Clean smell, Leaves hair clean and shiny

Disadvantages: Stings if children get it in their eyes

Are your children being attacked by blood-sucking monsters in the playground? No, you don't need Buffy the Vampire Slayer, you need Avon Naturals Tea Tree Shampoo!

If you have a primary school-aged child, you won't be a stranger to the misery of the dreaded head lice. However hard you try and however vigilant you are, at some point your child will come home scratching like a dog full of fleas. Chances are you will be scratching your head now just at the thought of it!

I have tried all manner of supposed “nit-busting” products. Some work and some don’t. Some can be harsh and irritate kids’ scalps. Some are difficult and time consuming to apply. Some kill adult lice but do not work on the eggs or “nits”.

Just when I was at the end of my tether, a friend of mine told me about Tea Tree Oil. It is an amazing natural substance from Australia that is an astringent and an antiseptic. The oil is said to be excellent for greasy hair and sensitive scalps – and head lice hate it!

I started washing my five-year-old’s hair in Avon’s Naturals Tea Tree Oil shampoo about three months ago. After shampooing, I also use Avon’s matching Tea Tree Oil Conditioner and comb it through with a lice comb, just for safety (it also makes my daughter’s hair beautifully soft, manageable and tangle-free).

Since using these products we have had very few incidences of head lice. Once or twice I have found lice in her hair, but these have never laid eggs and are easily picked out.

These items vary widely in price according to what special offers are on in the Avon catalogue. When I bought mine they were “mix and match three for £5.00” on the shampoo and conditioner, which is a bargain. Sometimes they even do “buy one, get one free”, so keep an eye out for the good deals.

The shampoo is gentle on her skin and scalp. It creates
a nice lather and leaves her hair very clean and shiny. The smell is a bit unusual (a bit like a cross between cucumber and mint) but it is not unpleasant and very fresh smelling. It comes in a 250ml bottle and is suitable for all hair types. It would be nice if it was available in a larger "family" sized bottle as all our family now uses it.

The conditioner has the same smell and is quite thick and creamy (don’t be put off by the incredibly bright green colour!) It comes in a 150ml squeezy tube.

All in all, I would recommend these products very highly. I now use them myself as I work as a school lunch supervisor (dinner lady) and one attack of head lice as an adult is more than enough! I haven’t suffered since, either. Try it and judge for yourself!

Unfortunately, I have checked Avon's website at www.avonshop.co.uk and they do not appear to have these items listed, so see your local Avon representative.

Excellent comments for an excellent product.I also use this on my two young daughters hair. They too come home from school scratching! I find it does actually help to keep nits at bay.I especially like Avons prices.Other nit lotions and potions can cost over £5.00 each for a small amount, whereas this is great value.
