Advantages: Effective. cheaper than GHDs and adjustable heat.
Disadvantages: none
My hair is naturally kinky and wavy but I like it to be straight and sleek. I had got a pair of Vidal Sassoon straightners but they didn't work at all which I was shocked about because they were a good brand and cost £35.00. I decided to get a new pair and I wanted a pair of GHDs but they were out of my price range at over £100.00. I went into boots to look at the range of straightners.
I saw the Babyliss pro 230 straightners for £65.00 (this was about a year ago now) so I thought that they must be good as they are a good brand and expensive. I read the box and the straightner stats, 30 second heat up and top temperature of 230°C and compared it to the other straightners and found that these were the best so I bought them.
The first time I used them, I washed, conditioned and dried my hair. I plugged the straightners in and put them on the heat resistant mat that came with them. You have to press the button nearest the light to turn them on and there is a small round dial on the inside numbered from 1-10 to turn the temperature up or down which I left on 10. By the time I had sectioned my hair, the straightners were red hot which was convenient and quick. The straightners have a swivel cord so they are easy to manoeuvre around your hair and head. I clamped them at the root of my hair and then slid them down to the ends. They moved nice and easily down my hair without getting caught or pulling my hair. I straighted all my hair with ease and was stunned with the results. My hair was soft and silky and very straight. It looked amazing. I had a lot of compliments about my hair and how good it looked afterwards.
A couple of weeks later, I went to a hairdressers in Merry Hill and they were styling my hair and I saw that they were using the pro 230straightners. I had always seen hairdressers use GHDs and I asked her how come she wasn't using them and she said that the Babyliss ones were just as good but much cheaper and better because you can adjust the heat on them whereas the Babyliss ones were adjustable.
Overall these straightners are very good although I did find when I used the straightners on the top temperature, they were too hot and did frazzle my hair a little bit so I turned them down to number 6 which is a lot better now. The higher temperature would be better for curly or afro hair. These straightners are also brilliant for curling and I can make really nice defined curls with these. I would definitely recommend these to others as I have had mine about a year and they are like brand new!
Summary: A briliant pair of straightners that I would certainly recommend.

- 02/05/09 I think these are brilliant but nearly cried when I saw them today for £37 in wilkinsons. I paid £65 :( |

- 01/05/09 I am also on the kinky side - hair that is! But my hair is way too short to straighten. I just have to put up with it doing its own thing. It's a bind. |
