Advantages: Quick, effecitve, beautiful colour and accessories

Disadvantages: Heavy and large

2 weeks before Christmas my straightners (GHD's) finally died. They had been in a bad way for a few months but in the run up to Christmas there was no way I could afford to replace them.

So I had to walk around with my curly hair sticking out everywhere, which I was really embarassed about but there was nothing that I could do. Its amazing how you come to rely on thing like your straightners, hairdryers, lady shaves etc, it was almost like I was grieving for someone.

I have to say that I am lucky enough to have a caring husband who understood and kindly presented me with a set of brand new straighteners before my christmas night out. When I opened them I tried to hide my disappointment at the lack of the GHD name and thought at least I could try them for his sake.

Well I have to say as I started to straighten my massive curly locks I stared in the mirror in amazement. One swift stroke through and my hair was poker straight, without the usual anti frizz creme or sprays, just pure heat from there special ceramic-titanium plates and that was it. I loved the fact that they heat to 230oC in 30 seconds and have a digital display.

My hair is well past my shoulders and really thick and unruly but in 15 minutes it was gorgeous.

I didnt use the steam the first time as it said it made it really shiny and I wasnt sure I needed that but having now used the steam I think it makes it look like I have just walked out the salon. To use the steam you have to fill up a little compartment with water and it very quickly runs out so I only use the steam setting on special occasions.

These straighteners are heavier than your average ones and the plates or quite large so not great for short hair but they have a 3 metre cord so you can move about with them. And I have to mention that they make a noise, just a little buzzing noise, to me I find this reassuring as I know they are working and that I have turned them off.

They are a beautiful red colour and come with a luxurious looking red bag and heat mat. 4 sectioning clips are also included.

I noticed they were on offer in Argos when my husband go these at £49.99, so at half the price of GHDs and the fact they straighen my hair faster I will not be returning to GHDs anytime soon and I will be recommending these to anyone looking for straigheners.

Summary: A great rival to GHDs, perfect for naturally curly hair

Wow, thanks for the info. I'm in need of some new straighteners and was considering fluttering my eyelashes at hubby - it's my birthday in May! I think I might point him in the direction of these instead...and then he can get me something else as well! ;o)
