Advantages: Long Swivel Cord, Model, poker straight, shiny hair, Fabric coated for protection
Disadvantages: May stain with cheap hair dye - but all irons would
It's the usual catch-22, you have straight hair- you want curls, you have waves- you want it to be straight. Whenever I put effort into transforming my waves/curls/kinks I want to get it as straight and sleek as possible. The only place that has ever been able to achieve this to perfection was at the hair dressers where she could take her time to blow dry to perfection.
At first I thought: "What about relaxer cream," but I later found out that this was merely to calm tight curls and frizz, not for the likes of my hair.
Then a new innovation came out: Ceramic hair straighteners. And in the best salons you were able to have treatment from the £100 straighteners such as GHD. So that was the solution: GHD Ceramic plates?..one problem, did I really want to fork out nearly £100?
Then for my 16 birthday I was given the Babyliss Professional Slim Ceramic straightening irons. I really want to go over them carefully with you because it took me AGES to find the ceramic irons to suit my needs and every review didn?t seem to have enough information.
So what?s so good about these irons?
Well firstly they have the ceramic coating that any girl mad about hair will rave about. By being just coated though (rather than solid) the price can stay pretty low, without damaging product quality. I mean, only the top layer is need anyway, the rest of the plate is just to conduct heat.
What else I loved about these straightening irons, which applies to most slim ceramic irons is the sleek shine that is left on the hair. But remember, this can only be achieved by keeping your hair in good quality condition by either using a serum, deep conditioner or using a heat protector spray, all of these will steer your hair away from becoming dry, frizzy and damaged. I STRONGLY recommend that you invest in the Charles Worthington Heat Protector Spray and either the John Frieda Serum or Relaxing Cream.
But won't they be too t
hin for my hair?

ABSOLOUTLEY NOT. They may seem too thin to some people but this is a great advantage. Compared to larger straightening irons, the Babyliss Slim Ceramic Straightening Irons can glide over the hair with less effort and there is a lower weight for you to have to hold up. Also the thinner plate means that these straighteners heat up instantly. Some people think that these are only good for short hair or fringes: WRONG. These can be used for everyone, the only difference is the width of the plate and the amount of plastic on the outer body, so theoretically they are much more efficient that larger straightening irons?
Why are these irons considered "Professional"?
Well firstly because they have the ceramic coating, these hair straighteners are considered ?the ones to have? by professional hair dressers. Secondly, they are fitted with a long cord that can swivel around the straighteners due to a special fitting. Gee, it sounds like I work for the company!
The box doesn't say that they work universally?
If you ever see a product that says "Works Universally" it's just trying to win over the innocent customer. The fact is this: All products work all over the world, all you need is the adaptor, which can be purchased all over the world at duty free shops and electrical shops. Even the brands that say "Works Universally" would need these adaptors, they are just trying to make it sound like all of the other brands would explode if used elsewhere. Rest assured, I have taken my straightening irons outside the UK and they were a God send and worked perfectly!
What other features do these straightening irons have?
They have a fabric coating above the ceramic plates, which protect your hands whilst in operation. So let's run over this one more time:
* Slim and professional
* Long, swivel cord (Salon Use)
* Ceramic Coated plates
*
Fabric coated for protection
* On/Off Button with indicator light
*Thermostat, so that plates do not over heat
NOW, I was about to give these irons 5 stars without a shadow of a doubt but am inclined to give them 4 because of this:
The other day my friend came around and told me how she tried to dye her hair purple but nothing happened, and the dye actually looked blue in the bottle. So there I was straightening her hair and when I looked down at the plates they were stained blue! Now I phoned up the Customer Service, who were extremely polite, and assured me that this would not affect them but if it did I could get a replacement. I am still going to give this product 5 stars because really this was not the fault of the straightening irons but of my idiot friend!
So there you have it, if you want perfectly straight, shiny hair that will not be damaged through heat exposure and you are on a budget look no further that the Babyliss Professional Slim Ceramic Straightening Irons.
They are almost as great as my first google whack: disenthralled stalagmites (to all google whack fans- see what I did there :)!)

- 05/09/03 These sound great for £30. I've got GHD but these sound good for those on a budget. Very well explained, very detailed, it's just a shame your straighteners have turned blue! Hope they still work okay now :) |

- 01/08/03 Great review - I don't own these ones, but I've got some ceramic straightening irons and they are fantastic! I'd be lost without mine now. By the way, you left a message on one of my ops saying:
"Why did you want to sue Blinks Homework, I always found them helpful". I have no idea what Blinks Homework is... are you sure you left this message for the right person??!! |
