Batiste Blush Dry Shampoo
Advantages: Livens up unwashed hair, making it look clean, reasonable cost
Disadvantages: None in particular
I used to wash my hair every day, and had no need of dry shampoo. However, I had my hair cut recently and the hairdresser pointed out that my hair was in really bad condition. This wasn't really surprising, as not only did I wash my hair every day, I also dried and straightened it, and coloured it every month or so. I decided that I was going to have to take action, and decided to start washing my hair only every other day.
Even then, I didn't start using dry shampoo immediately. My hair is quite dry, and I find that on the second day, it often looks perfectly clean and I just need to style it as usual. However, on the odd occasion, the roots look slightly greasy, perhaps because I've used too much product on my hair the day before, and that's where this shampoo comes in.
I chose the Blush version of the shampoo, which came in a pretty pink floral can. Batiste have revamped their range since I made my first purchase and the cans are now rather retro and 70s style. Blush is still pink though. It is described as having a beautiful delicate fragrance, and this appealed more than some of the others.
The dry shampoo is designed to refresh hair between washes, and in particular revitalise greasy, dull and lifeless hair. It is meant to leave your hair clean, full of body and smelling beautiful. It is supposed to be quick and convenient to use wherever you are. So does it live up to its claims?
Quick and convenient to use - it certainly is. All you need to do is spray the shampoo over your hair, leave for a few moments and brush out. I was very worried the first time I used this because my hair is very dark brown and the shampoo dries to a sort of grey powder! However a bit of brushing soon removed every trace of the shampoo. I normally concentrate on my roots, as these are the most prone to grease - the ends of my hair are generally fine.
Refreshes and revitalises greasy, dull and lifeless hair - Well, my hair is generally dry, so the shampoo doesn't have as hard a job as it would on hair that is properly greasy. However, my hair certainly feels and looks better after using this product. It's not as clean feeling and looking as it is when I wash it properly, but it's a good second best. It looks fresher and better than it did before.
Leaves hair clean, full of body and smelling beautiful - as mentioned my hair does feel cleaner after use. It also has a bit of extra volume, though not too much thankfully, as my hair tends to be frizzy at the best of times! I also like the smell of the shampoo, which is a lovely floral scent, and does last on my hair. I don't think my hair smells bad naturally, but if you smoke, for example, this shampoo should hopefully mask that scent on your hair. My only issue with the scent is that Batiste is such a popular product, everyone knows what it smells like - so it's obvious that you've put Batiste on your hair rather than washing it properly!
Overall, I really like this product and will certainly repurchase. Cans are available from Boots, Superdrug and anywhere you can normally buy toiletries. Batiste costs a couple of pounds which is very reasonable.
Summary: Handy dry shampoo
