Batiste Boho Dry Shampoo
Advantages: Good value for money, works
Disadvantages: Smell might be a bit strong
I have used dry shampoo off-and-on for years, generally using the Toni and Guy one. I had previously used the original Batiste variety because at the time that was all that was really available and was not very impressed, finding the scent pungent. However, when I popped into Boots to try and get some haircare products I was pleasantly surprised to see that Batiste now comes in a variety of different scents and at a much more reasonable price than the Toni and Guy version, Batiste retails at £2.30 for an 150ml aerosol can.
I was not really sure what fragrance to go for out of - Boho, blush, tropical or diva; but being a bit of a hippy chick - I eventually went for Boho!
It is your standard aerosol in essence. As per the instructions you should shake well before using or else it will come out thicker and not enough like a spray. The instructions also say to spray it 30cm from the hair, however, I find it a bit tricky to do that sometimes particularly when I want to concentrate it on my roots so I tend to do it a bit closer, note though that if you do it a bit closer then you will need to concentrate more on brushing it out or you will be left with 'mallen streaks!" You should then rub it through your hair and follow it up by brushing.
It is fair to say that the scent is pretty intense and strong smelling, which you may not like (the Toni and Guy version while still quite strong is more pleasant. It has a sweet, powdery but pretty artificial scent, however it is still much better than the original Batiste scent.
I find it really does do a good job of mopping up excess oil from the roots or further down the hair once brushed through - if this doesn't happen instantly, then keep trying. It is also very good at adding a little bit of lift to clean hair when applied solely to the roots. Be warned, however if you are used to having shiny hair, this product will mattify it and take a lot of that sheen on.
In conclusion, I was impressed with this product considering its price. It works really well as a dry shampoo, either if you want to spruce your hair between washes or if you are at a festival where hairwashing is not an option for a few days - the strong sweet fragrance works really well in this particular instance. I would definitely buy the Bastiste range again, although I may try a different fragrance next time.
Summary: A festival must-have
