Advantages: Smells heavenly, gets rid of grease and boosts body
Disadvantages: If not rubbed in properly you are left with a white powder like residue
After giving birth to my second daughter, my hair started to change considerably. I used to have beautifully straight hair (people always thought I used ghd's), that was neither dry nor greasy. After giving birth, my hair seemed to turn wavy, with lots of kinks in it, and also started to get greasy very quickly. This meant that from having to wash it only twice a week I had to start washing it every other day (as well as having to start using straighteners, oh what a time consuming task!). My hair would look perfect on the day that I washed it, but by the second part of the next day, my roots and fringe in particular, would look quite greasy and in need of a wash. I tried many different shampoos for greasy hair which did not actually make any difference, and then one day I came across the Batiste Dry Shampoo!
The Batiste Dry Shampoo is available in two different sized cans, the one that I am reviewing is the smaller of the two, containing 200 ml (about the same size of a larger size deodorant) and the scent is fruity and cheeky cherry (newest fragrance out I believe). It can be purchased from Boots at a very reasonable price of £2.99, and there are many other different scents that you can choose from.
The Batiste Dry shampoo claims to revitalise hair, banish greasy roots and add body and texture, leaving hair feeling clean and fresh, without having to wash it (that is why it is called a dry shampoo). The can itself looks very pretty, it is white and aqua with lots of red cherries all over the front, making it look almost like a Cath Kidston item! On the front, it has the Batiste Dry Shampoo logo, underneath the scent (fruity and cheeky cherry). It also states "Instant hair refresh, banish oil & boost body". On the back of the can there is further information of the product including what it does, how to use, cautions (flammable, do not spray in eyes or on irritated skin, do not inhale, keep away from children and so on). There are also a list of ingredients, warning signs for both extremely and highly flammable, and details of the manufacturer.
To use, you must shake it very well (vigorously) and holding the nozzle about 30 cm away from your hair, spray into your hair roots. You must then massage through with your fingertips, and then brush and style hair as desired.
From my experience, the Batiste Dry Shampoo really works. As soon as I spray it on, I am hit by a lovely, fruity but sweet scent of cherries. It is a very girly scent I would say, I really like it but it may not be to everyone's taste I suppose. The scent lingers on for a good couple of hours after applying, so this makes your hair smell nice and fresh, which I suppose in turn makes it feel clean. When sprayed, it comes out of the nozzle in the form of a fine dry mist and looks like very fine white powder (talcum powder or icing sugar perhaps?). You must make sure that you rub it in really well until it sort of dissolves, otherwise you end up with very strange white looking hair. As soon as I finish rubbing it in, the greasy roots and fringe are gone and my hair looks almost as good as when it has just been freshly washed. Also because the grease (which makes hair looks limp and lifeless) has gone, my hair seems to have more body again. I only need a few sprays of this when I feel my hair is looking a bit crappy, and the results last for the rest of the day. Another thing that I love about the Batiste Dry Shampoo is that it is not only easy, but also very quick to use, it literally takes seconds, whereas washing and drying my hair would take a lot longer. I still wash my hair every other day, but on the one day that I don't, it means I can use the dry shampoo and my hair stays looking good until next day.
All in all, this is a great product that really delivers what it promises, and if you have greasy looking hair and no time to wash it, I would definitely recommend that you try the Batiste Dry Shampoo.
