I've only recently discovered the magic of dry shampoo. Until then I'd been having to wash my hair every single day as it is very oily and even just 24 hours after washing, it looks greasy at the roots.
When I was a teenager I heard about dry shampoo and thought it was a last-resort type situation where you really had no other choice, but I never imagined they did very much compared to washing your hair.
Watching a segment on TV about camping, they were reviewing dry shampoos and for the most part, they seemed to suggest they were actually rather good and worth using between washes in everyday situations so I thought I'd give it a go. Batiste dry shampoos were on a buy one get one half price deal in Boots and so I got 2 different ones just to see what the fuss was about. My hair is quite fine so really lacks volume, so I went for this XXL volume version in the hope it would give a much needed boost.
Well it smells nice and certainly dries up the oil, so my main requirement for this as a dry shampoo in between washes is satisfied. As a volumiser, not so sure. It does give the roots a lift, but I certainly wouldn't say it was worthy of an XXL title. Also, I do find the shampoo to be quite pale in colour. For me as a blonde, it's no problem and you can't tell the difference once it's been brushed in, but I wouldn't use this if I had brown hair as I imagine it would look a bit ashen.
I have seen very mixed reviews on this brand of Batiste dry shampoo - some people love it and others find it abominable! I think whether you will like it or not depends very much on a) the type of hair you have, and b) your personal style & what you view as attractive/fashionable.
I like this dry shampoo very much but I can understand why those who dislike it feel that way. I would class it as more of a styling product than for use as a dry shampoo.
It's way better than other volumising hair products I have tried; in fact by far its the best as far as creating volume is concerned!! The way it works is by adding product to the roots which, when you rub it in, causes the hair to becomes matted together in a sort of knotted, gigantic mound.
The hair becomes very dry and it will not be shiny or sleek. This is good because it removes any oil/grease from your hair however for those who like satin touch shiny locks its probably a bit of a nightmare. If you like a messy boho look then it's definitely for you!
I only use this now and again - I already have quite thick locks so for me it is to create super height for a night out or for a beehive style. It also takes a LOT of brushing to get out which I cannot be bothered with every day!
It's about £4 or so; a quid more than the regular Batiste dry shampoos, which is still pretty good value (or you could be a cheapskate like me and wait until they are on offer!).
Having fine hair, I purchased this particular dry shampoo because of it's promise for 'incredible volume'. And I feel like that's exactly what it's done!
Dry shampoo is usually used as a substitute for an actual hair wash, but I use this just for the volume on an almost daily basis. I've used other volumising dry shampoos before but none have quite given me the results that the Batiste one has.
The bottle has a nice, simple design. You can also buy a smaller 50ml bottle which fits nicely in your bag.
The actual dry shampoo should be sprayed into the roots - I find that this gives a really dry (obviously) and almost knotted texture to your hair. Basically, when I've got dry shampoo on it's impossible to even run my hands through my hair because it feels so clumped together. My hair does not feel much cleaner, but it definitely feels more volumised and bouncy. In turn I feel so much more confident when my hair looks like this!
The full size product costs £3.99, which is a reasonable amount considering the results it delivered. However, if it's the hair refreshing side you're wanting I wouldn't really recommend. This product is great for limp hair which needs a bit of a boost, but just makes my hair feel strange to touch. Personally, I love this dry shampoo but it really depends on your hair type whether you'll like it as much! My friend has dark brown hair and when she borrowed my Batiste dry shampoo, you could visibly see the whiteness standing out in her hair. So I'd probably recommend this product for those with lighter hair looking for a bit of volume.
I bought the Batiste XXL volume dry shampoo because the shops were out of my preferred brand. I choose this particular version because my fine hair often lacks volume. I paid 1GBP for a 50ml can in Poundland - the 200ml version costs 3.99 in Boots.
Dry shampoos are designed to be used without water, and to refresh your hair between normal washes. They aren't a total substitute for washing your hair with water in my opinion as my hair doesn't stay as fresh as it would have done if washed in the usual way.
I do like Batiste products but now I've used more than a dozen brands, I can't say they are the most effective or best value. However, they do offer a great range. They say their XXL will instantly refresh hair, and add maximum volume/texture "without the need to back comb."
The aerosol top works well but you can help it deposit the shampoo evenly, if you shake the can well before use and spray from a distance of 30cm from your head. This also prevents the product giving your hair a whitish look until it is worked through. Any stray powdery deposits will brush out. If you take those precautions, the shampoo is easy and quick to use. Spray it around the scalp, massage it through and you're ready to brush/style.
I didn't think the XXL had a strong scent at first, but the perfume was more obvious on my hair. I can't really pick out what the scent is supposed to be but I would plump for a bit too sweet floral mix. It lasts at least until the next day in a subtle kind of way.
I first used this on half of my head so that I could see the difference to the untreated side. I was impressed that the Batiste side did seem to have a bit more volume as soon as I had massaged it through my scalp area. However, as I massaged the other non dry shampooed side, I realised that that was also looking like it had more volume, which made me wonder! To be fair, Batiste makes the appearance of volume last longer and Batiste restores some of the body my hair has when freshly washed but no more than that - the XXL name lead me to hope for a bit more.
My hair doesn't look greasy after I use it. BUT unlike when I use normal shampoo, the fresh look of my hair doesn't extend through the next day. And I don't think that this quite lives up to the XXL volume name. It makes some difference but I can't help compare it to the Wilko own brand dry shampoo which does a better job. I wouldn't buy xxl for the volume part, but it does revive the hair.
The miracle of dry shampoo!!
I am surprised that so little people are aware of dry shampoo. I became aware of it only about 5 years ago, as my friends hair always looks perfect and smelt fresh, even when I was fully aware she didn't wash it every day with crazy work hour etc, yet she always had this just washed volume and freshness.
So she let me in on the secret and then I will never leave the house without having one in my bag...(Yes i have a very large bag)
I have tried other brands other than Batiste and I will say that , yes they work, but not as good, Some home brands of dry shampoo seem to be mainly alcohol, or you can get a them where they are just too talky.
When your hair isn't freshly was he sit does feel dull and flat, especially mine, yet I honestly have not seen the difference in the XXL Volume than in any of the other Batiste Dry Shampoos. I happened to pick this one up instead, didn't see the difference in volume however It still does the trick,
I would defiantly recommend Batiste Dry shampoo out of all the other Dry Shampoos out there, which should call Revitalise and absorbs the grease(sorry) Maybe the XXL Volume product could give more volume to many people, but it seemed the same to me.
Everyones hair is different!
I have tried lots of different dry shampoos over the years either for nights out after work, festivals or after the gym and this really is my favourite - even out of all the Batiste hair care products (and I will admit I have tried quite a lot of them over the year, new smalls along with the one designed for blond hair). The reason I love this one in particular is because it adds volume - something I really need as my hair can get quite flat after a day in the office.
The only down side to this dry shampoo is it can leave my hair looking a little white, I am not sure if this is due to having blond hair or because when I spray I hold the can to close to hair. Honestly its probably the can thing. Also, I think I am the only one who notices as when I have asked friends no one has ever said they notice it.
I am a massive fan of the batiste hair care products, as i believe in not washing your hair everyday to keep it healthy therefore batiste dry shampoo has been a life saver, however i usually use the tropical or the cherry spray as they work a treat and they smell amazing. They have always left my hair feeling refreshed with a extra bounce as my hair is quite thin so when I saw that they had made one for XXL volume I bought it straight away. The first thing i noticed was the smell.. it wasn't a horrible smell, I was just disappointed as the other ones usually smelt so nice. However, that didn't bother me as my mind was suddenly drawn to the fact that when I went to brush the shampoo out of my hair, my hair stood on end and was so static that every time I brushed my hair it made that static sound and i couldn't tame it. It made the ends of my hair dry and static too and the only way to stop it was to wet my brush and comb it through my hair.. which took the whole point away of the product. The only conclusion I could come to was that yes this product gave you volume, but only because it made your hair stand on end. I know for certain I will not be purchasing the XXL volume and will be going right back to the ones i used previously.
The only positive thing about this product is the price which is great value for money, this product also comes in several sizes, which makes is handy to pop in your hand bag.
I am a huge believer in Dry Shampoo...I actually think it is the best invention since sliced bread especially if you're like me and constantly on the go!
Firstly I will tell you about my hair type, I have extremely thick hair which is currently just above my shoulders it is so thick that I am very lucky I only have to wash my hair about every 5 days (If that!) but this means that is takes around 1 hour to blow dry, which is time I do not have.
I use the Batiste XXL Volume dry shampoo because it is everything I want in a can, not only does it mean that I don't have to wash my hair if I am too busy it also gives my hair LOTS of volume which = no need for hairspray or volume powder!
I like my hair to big especially on special occasions so use to use Volume powders but they use to make my head ITCH! So when I came across I thought I would give it a try and I was pleasantly surprised, it has just enough volume powder in to give your hair that bit of VA VA VOOM. Without being too overpowering and making your head itch. It also removes any grease that you have in your hair, who could ask for anything better?
I love knowing that even if I wake up with my hair looking like a chip pan, this superhero bottle is there to save me. It is not only good for weekly use (In my case) and for giving hair volume, even when it's not greasy it is perfect for Holidays, festivals, weekends away etc.
I actually have blonde hair so this blends into my hair perfectly (being a white colour spray) so cannot say if it hides well on any other colour but for Blondes, BRILLIANT! It is roughly £2.99 a can but they are usually on offer and they even do a travel size one (for camping or festivals maybe?).
The great thing about this product is the smell, I find that other dry shampoos have an awful smell too them but this smells lovely - very fresh and summery.
The can has a lovely trendy pattern on the front and Batiste has once again lived up to its reputation. I always have one of these in my drawer and highly recommend them, like I said above not only for the purpose of Dry Shampoo but also for Volume.
This is a dry shampoo from the popular brand Batiste. The version I am discussing is the floral and flirty blush spray and it claims to instantly refresh the hair whatever your hair type. The dry shampoos from batiste also claim to banish oily roots and give lifeless hair a makeover. This product I would say is ideal for holidays, camping, festivals or for people who don't have as much time on their hands. In fact it could even be a good product if you are somebody who wants to get out of the cycle of over washing their hair, I did try that but I still have to wash it everyday! Haha.
The batiste dry shampoo comes in what I would describe as a hairspray can. It is quite thin in diameter and is probably roughly 7 inches tall. The lid to the dry shampoo is a frosted white colour and the can itself is mainly pink and covered in pink flowers. On the front it states the name of the product and the quantity - 200ml. On the back of the packaging the product lists its claims as mentioned in my description. There is also safety advice and the manufacturer's details. What I like most though is that on the back there is a step by step diagram of how to use the product, brilliant for someone new to dry shampoo!
You can currently buy this product from Superdrug for £1.48 which I feel is a very reasonable price. You can also purchase the dry shampoo in different scents and designs which can cost more but in general you shouldn't pay more than £2 in Superdrug for 200ml of product. It may also be worth checking online to see if you can get a better price!
I was a bit sceptical of dry shampoo when I first heard of it but after several recommendations from friends I figured I'd give it a go. I first used this version of the batiste shampoo on my holiday two years ago. As somebody who can't get out of the cycle of washing my hair daily I often get frustrated with the feel and look of my hair, especially after sitting in the heat or coming out of the sea/pool and so I used this shampoo before a night out on the evening when abroad. You simply shake the can before use and then spray small amounts into the roots of your hair, then work in with your fingers. This product for me was a god send on holiday as it really refreshed my hair and left it smelling gorgeous instead of like chlorine! It definitely made my hair bouncier too which I also like and made me feel a lot better in myself with a fresh head of clean hair.
I stopped using this product for a while because I couldn't really find a use for it, I did try to alternate between washing my hair in the shower then using the dry shampoo the next day, then back to shower etc but it didn't quite perform well enough for me to stop washing my hair daily. This is probably because my hair is used to this cycle though, most people would be fine using this dry shampoo on a day they wouldn't be washing their hair. The main thing I have been using this product for recently is before an early University start and I feel now I've found another use for it, the product has really come into its own again.
When I have an early University start, due to commuting I will often shower in the evening to give me a longer lie in! When I wake up in the morning I always give my hair a quick blast of the dry shampoo just to give it some life and a nice scent before I head off on public transport. I've been very pleased with the products performance on a daily basis for this reason.
Overall I really like this product it's just a shame I can't use it more regularly than I do as I've finished Uni for summer now and so no early starts! This product would be absolutely perfect for anybody who has a hectic lifestyle and just hasn't got time to wash their hair everyday or perhaps one morning you are running late for work, just give this a quick blast, it takes two seconds and you'll be well on your way to beautiful hair.
My mum bought this thinking it was the original Batiste Dry Shampoo, which we both use. My mum has long hair compared to me and said it was awful, so offered it to me! I wasn't sure if this was just going to be the same as the original and just in a different can, but rest assured it isn't.
I have fine, limp, blonde hair that gets greasy quickly so I have always needed dry shampoo for the in between washes. I used this and have never went back.
As I said I have fine hair and this adds such volume to my hair, for every day use, which I have struggled to achieve before. When I put it in I aim only for the roots and scrunch it in and rough it up a bit, then with a bit of smoothing over with a comb I have volumised hair instantly. I think I love this as I have short hair and it really aids in the styling of my hair. As other reviewers have said once in it adds a sort of toughness to your hair which if your looking for a shiny free flowing look, it won't work, it does make it more difficult to run your hands through your hair but for me this is great as my style sits, with the extra volume and hold it means I touch my hair less, leading to a reduction in the amount of oil in my hair. This means that one application is enough in a day whereas with the original I had to apply a few times a day.
I had recommended this to friends as well, however those with longer hair again didn't like it, although loved it for getting that extra volume for putting quiffs in their hair or places where they needed extra hold and height for a night out.
Therefore I love this but it really suits my style of short hair and I can see drawbacks for those with longer hair who are just looking for a quick dry shampoo boost to get them to their next wash. For me it is an essential styling tool as well as a dry shampoo.
I've been a big fan of Batiste dry shampoo for years, as my hair suffers from being washed everyday but still needs a bit of something to make it look presentable on the 'no wash' days. In the last few years, Batiste seem to have grown in popularity and they've been releasing lots of different varieties of their traditional product based on things like scent, colour etc. This one promises to give your hair extra volume.
Now, I think ordinary Batiste does a pretty good job of boosting volume, especially when your hair has flattened a bit after sleeping on it or not washing and blowdrying for a day or more. I was a bit skeptical about whether this new version would be any different or was just a marketing ploy!
Well, I can say that this version does seem to have a bit of added extra oomph to it, I'm not sure how but it really did give my hair a volume boost. It didn't last perfectly in the way a true hairspray would but a quick fluff of the roots every few hours was enough to restore the 'bounce'.
The problem is that it doesn't really look good enough to use for an occasion other than everyday normal life, and most of us aren't that bothered about having bouncy hair day to day! This dry shampoo is the standard white/grey colour so if you use too much you look like you've aged prematurely, especially on darker hair! It also leaves your hair feeling a bit sticky and unpleasant to the touch. You can't really run your hands through it or let anybody else touch your head for any reason!
After trying this once, I think I'll stick to my current favourite, the coloured dry shampoo that blends into my natural hair colour better and still gives a decent volume boost.
I first discovered dry shampoo whilst I was on a 4-day Duke of Edinburgh's expedition in the Isle of Wight. There were only showers at one of the campsites, so for the other 2 nights, I couldn't wash my hair! Fortunately, a couple of my friends had brought some dry shampoo with them (and plenty of it!), and at first I thought the idea of it was a bit weird..
But then I used it and it made my hair look a lot cleaner than it actually was! It was like a miracle! There I am in the middle of July, walking for approximately 8-10 hours each day with a rucksack weighing more than I do, sweating like crazy, my hair getting progressively more and mroe greasy.. But this dry shampoo saved my life! Well, maybe that's slightly extreme..
I don't exactly know how it works, but after spraying it all over your hair and running your fingers through it a bit, your hair looks clean and shiny! Obviously you can't go days without actually washing it- there's only so much that dry shampoo can do for your hair before it gets to a point that it's just so greasy it doesn't work anymore. And depending on the greasiness of your hair, it can still feel quite greasy after using it, but it may still look clean.
Overall though this is a brilliant buy, and I use it even now. It's great for when you're feeling too ill or tired to shower/bath, but want your hair to look clean. I couldn't live without this stuff!
I have used dry shampoos for many years and to be honest, I'd be totally lost without them. The range I prefer though is Batiste. Lately I have noticed that their range just seems to be expanding more and more and there are dry shampoos now for every sort of hair out there. My own hair is rather fine, lank and limp. It lacks body (a lot), it has greasy roots and slightly drier ends, especially now since I have had my hair lightened.
Generally speaking, it's a weekend when I use a dry shampoo. During the week, as I work full time, I just have to wash my hair every evening whilst I'm in the shower. If I don't wash it, I look ghastly the following morning and my hair would be so very greasy I'd feel terrible leaving the house and going to work. On the odd occasion I have used a dry shampoo during the week but as I say, I mainly use one on weekends, and that's mainly because I think I wash my hair too often and it actually makes the roots get greasy quicker.
As my hair is limp and lacks life, I was thrilled to discover a dry shampoo that could also give it a bit of lift and volume whilst eradicating the greasies at the same time. Up until quite recently, I was using Batiste Tropical but now I'm using Bastiste Big and Bouncy XXL Volume Dry Shampoo. This comes in a sort of pinky coloured striped aerosol can with a white lid. It works exactly the same way as any other dry shampoo does, but this one is totally different in that I also use it if my hair is clean anyway, as adding only a small amount right to the root of the hair and near to the scalp, gives my the most wonderful lift. It actually has the ability to make my hair look ten times bigger than it does normally.
I spray it ever so lightly, holding the can about ten inches from my hair. I always make sure that I've shaken the can very well beforehand because dry shampoos really don't work so well unless the can is given a vigorous shake beforehand.
The spray comes out in a fine cold blast. It's quite a forceful spray, very unlike using something such as a hairspray for instance, which is far more subtle. I try to lift my hair in small sections and spray at the root and then gently disperse with the very tips of my fingers. I can immediately see the lift it gives my hair.
Less is definitely more, however, with this product. On the odd occasion I have used too much, it can make my hair feel quite heavy and tacky. It just makes my hair look fuller and bouncier and I love the fact that it simply washes out so well in the shower at night and never leaves any tell tale sticky residue behind.
One can costs me £2.49 and though it's not a huge can, as I only need to use tiny sprays to get the full volume effect, I find that it lasts me for week s and weeks. It's definitely a product I'd recommend if like me, you suffer from fine limp hair which is prone to greasy roots.
A brilliant product and one that I really very highly recommend.
I'm a huge fan of Batiste Dry Shampoo as it aids my hair during those inbetween wash days. In fact, i'm not sure where I would be without the product.
There are a few disadvantages: I really can't understand why they marketed this product as XXL volume as it provided the same amount of volume as all of the other varieties. Nonetheless, Batiste does help enhance volume. I also find that these cans run out very quickly and I'm having to buy a new one on a fortnightly basis.
However, I believe that the pros outweigh the cons. I love all of the varieties of this product and they all leave my hair smelling great and looking fresh. I also love the versatility of this product. Whilst it's good for those days when my hair needs a boost but not a wash, it is also a great aid for styling hair as it can boost the volume in the roots and make it easier to style.
I have finally gotten around to buying a dry shampoo after reading reviews about how good they are. I was a little sceptical as to how they would work for my hair. I chose this one because the can attracted to me and I love the colour pink, and I also wanted my first purchase to be one which would hopefully give me some volume to my hair at the same time. I bought it for days when I am feeling not so well and cannot be bothered to wash my hair and just have a shower.
The shampoo comes in a canister and has a removable lid. A good size nozzle and the can is a pink colour with the name clearly on the front and so can be spotted on a shelf. The nozzle is easy to press too.
What I did before I used this shampoo was to brush my hair and part it, then I give the can a quick shake and then just sprayed the shampoo directly onto the roots of my hair, the first thing I noticed was a white dusting of very fine powder on my hair. It does however squirt from the can very quickly and directly. I hoped it would rub quickly because I didn't want to have to wash my hair. I then rubbed it gently into my roots and by the time I had rubbed it all in, I couldn't really notice much of the powder on the hair. I was actually relieved it rubbed in perfectly. I then after a couple of minutes just brushed my hair again and tied it in a pony tail.
It has a really nice fragrance and smells of a perfume fragrance, it is a really nice smell and one I like a lot. The fragrance has staying power and I can smell it some time after first spraying it, which is good because with my hair being not as clean as I would like, my hair still had a nice smell to it.
The results this one is supposed to give is to give the hair more bounce and to give it volume, I think it does give a fair amount of volume being a dry shampoo and it does take a while to get used to using it because I found the very first time I used it, I was constantly touching my hair and looking at it in a mirror. I thought it did a really good job of allowing me to not wash my hair that day and it looked good enough to go to the shops etc but I don't think it would be suitable to use if you are going out somewhere special. I am really happy with the results and it has allowed me to miss a day washing my hair. My hair doesn't look all lanky or too messy or I would have continued to use it again. It does give a good bouncy feeling to the hair too.
It is easy to wash from the hair the next day or even later in the day it has been used. I think it is a really good product and I am really pleased I bought it to try because it has helped me a great deal to keep my hair looking as nice as possible and give me the confidence to go out with dirty hair.
It hasn't ruined my hair or left it feeling dry etc, I think it is worth the money and I will most definitely buy it again because it gives me all the results which I expect from a dry shampoo of this kind. It doesn't give a flaky scalp like I imagined it would, and the roots look quite good. It is amazing how this one actually works and I have very thick hair and I would imagine if you have thinner hair, it would give it a little volume too and lots of bounce.
The size of the can is 200ml and it costs just £2.50. I think for this price it is good value for money and the shampoo is of a really good quality and a good fragrance. For this price I thought it was worth a go and I am really pleased I finally bought a dry shampoo and that this one was my first purchase. I will definitely buy it again and maybe try a different fragrance next time just to compare the 2.
Also on Ciao under my username Pinky50.
I give this shampoo 5 stars.
Thank you for reading my review and I hope it has been of some help.
