Advantages: easy to use, works well

Disadvantages: Not as good as real shampoo

Both my husband and I are a bit unfortunate in the fact that we seem to suffer from greasy hair. This is not normally a problem with daily hair washing using a good shampoo. However, a few months ago my husband had an accident while building a set for our local amateur dramatics group. Some wood landed on his head which resulted in him being taken to A and E with a nasty gash which was 'glued' back together. All was well and good apart from the fact that he was unable to get that area of his head wet for five days which of course meant no hair washing! Being the loving wife that I am, I was more concerned about the state his hair would be in than any lasting injuries he might have sustained! (only joking!)

I was quite pessimistic about what he would look like if he couldn't wash his hair but suddenly remembered many years ago my mum using 'dry shampoo' on some occasions. Well, I wasn't sure if such a thing even existed still but I set off to my local Boots to find out and there I discovered Batiste Dry Shampoo.

It comes in a pale green aerosol can which you have to shake well before using. On the front it states that it refreshes and revitalises hair between washes. Well, this was definitely what we wanted so my husband set about using it on his hair.

It has the instructions printed on the can. The print is rather small so they're not that easy to read without glasses. After having shaken the can vigorously, as per instructions, my husband sprayed it on his hair in short sharp bursts. The key is to get it covering your hair fairly evenly and then massage it in with your fingers. After having done this, you then needed to brush it out after a few minutes, although there really didn't seem to be any residue. It was incredibly quick and easy to use and of course you don't need to dry your hair afterwards!

It really did work and straight away my husband's hair did look a lot better and definitely a lot less greasy. I was really impressed and with him using it daily over the five days, he was able to keep his hair looking fairly reasonable. Mind you, by the time he could wash his hair, he was really desperate to, because although the appearance was OK it really didn't feel very nice by that stage.

Since having bought the dry shampoo, I've also used it on a couple of occasions just when I haven't had time to wash my hair. My hair is a lot longer than my husbands and it works just as well on long hair. I tend to hold my head upside down so that I can really get to the roots when I use it. I think it has a really cool calming effect when I spray it on my hair which I really like. It's funny though, because when I use it although it makes my hair look good, it still feels greasy to me, so it's obviously only doing a superficial clean rather than a deep one.

It's for this reason that I would only recommend using this dry shampoo when you have to, but it's definitely worth keeping one in the cupboard just for emergencies. I think ours will last a very long time. Also a 150 ml can costs £2.09 from Boots so that seems quite good value.

As with all pressurised containers there are the usual warnings about it being inflammable and not to let children near it, so as long as you keep it in a safe place it will be fine.

So overall, this is a very good product which does what it says on the label. It's useful for emergencies but nothing really beats the real thing! And as long as my husband doesn't go around cutting his head open on a regular basis, it should last a long time!

Summary: Great to use when you haven't time to wash your hair properly.

I use this and its fab for those days when you just don't have time to wash your hair, it leaves mine nice and soft - but I can only get away with using it for 2 days as it feels a bit "clogged up" after that. Excellent product tho !

I tried one of these a few years ago, but didn't feel my hair was really clean.
