Advantages: Covers up in between wash greasyness
Disadvantages: Not the nightest smelling product out there
I have always had pretty greasy hair, the ends never seem too bad but the roots in particular become greasy very quickly. I try and wash my hair every day but on the days where that isn't possible my hair becomes chip pan greasy, and unfortunately since having my son the occasions I have enough time to wash and dry my nest are becoming fewer and further between.
I therefore needed something I could use so I could actually dare leave the house without looking like the great unwashed. I needed something quick, easy and preferably cheap. Does such thing exist? Well apparently it does.
~What is it?~
Batiste is a dry shampoo that claims to "refresh hair between washes". They do an original,a blush and a tropical vesion, and to be completely honest I have no idea what the difference is, I'm guessing the scent is different but since I've only used the original one I can't advise which is better.
To use it the advice on the back tell you spray lightly onto the hair, holding the aerosol 12 inches away. You need need to massage it into the hair, leave a few moments, then brush out.
~Packaging~
The 'Original' one comes in a green aerosol with the product name across the front. To me it looks slightly old fashioned but I did notice it on the shelf in my local pharmacy, so I guess it did it's job. It comes with a green push on lid which doesn't come off unless you pull it, making the product handy for carrying around without the risk of it spraying all over your handbag/gym bag.
~Opinion~
On the front of the aerosol are three statements that they claim Batiste can do for you and your hair, but how accurate are they?
Claim one - Revitalises greasy, dull and lifeless hair between washes.
I have actually found that it does in fact help my greasy mop look somewhat presentable between washes. It doesn't give it that squeaky clean look that real shampoo does but it does definitely take the "greasiness" away.
Claim two - Instantly leaves your hair feeling clean, full of body and smelling beautiful.
As I said I wouldn't say its clean as such, just not as greasy. It leaves your hair looking presentable rather than attractive. When you use it, it coats your hair in what I can only describe as a white talc-like substance that obviously is used to soak up the grease (what a delightful thought!) I have blonde hair and find that even after brushing it out it leaves my hair a slightly lighter colour. Because of this, it makes me wonder how effective it would be with darker hair, as it may appear more noticeable.
In terms of "smelling beautiful", well this is a bit of an exaggeration in my opinion. It smells ok, not delightful, but not terrible either. As I say, I have never tried the others, and they may have a nicer scent.
Claim three - Quick and convenient to use wherever you are.
This is definitely true. The size and design of the spray mean it is easy to pop in your bag and use when your hair needs sprucing up a bit.
~Price~
It retaills for around £2 for a 150ml spray, I bought mine for £1.99 in my local chemist. This is what I would expect to pay for a product like this, and it does last quite a long time so you do get value for money.
~Availability~
Batiste can be bought from virtually any chemist, supermarket or Boots store. It can also be bought online but when considering the postage costs in may not be worth it.
~Conclusion~
If my regular shampoo left my hair like this I probably wouldn't use it again but when considering it is just a spray, you can take it anywhere and don't need to mess around with water and a hairdryer, I'd say its worth buying again.
Summary: Good for an emergency clean

- 02/06/09 When we didn't have a bathroom in the house I used to just dust some talc in my hair between washes and it did pretty much the same job - gave me another day or two until I could scavenge a proper wash somewhere! Hadn't realised you could buy 'proper' hair de-greaser! |

- 02/06/09 I know someone who over-relies on dry shampoo, and it makes her brown hair look like its going grey. She's only 20! |
