~The look of the product~
The Black & White Genuine Pluko Hair Dressing Pomade (50ml) is a small tub of pomade. The tub is white and not at all eye-catching the logo is one of basic standard and the front does not exactly inspire people. The back is where they try to persuade you to buy the product, "The long hold control Hair Dressing Pomade" "Black & White Genuine Pluko is a versatile Hair Dressing that allows you to mould, sculpt and create texture. It is firm but pliable giving long hold control that lasts all day. Simply work a small amount of the Genuine Pluko into your hair from the roots, through the mid-lengths and to the ends with your fingertips and style to achieve desired effect. ( I shall talk about how true these claims are further on in the review) It also gives the ingredients as, " Petrolatum, Paraffin, Zinc Oxide, Perfume."
~The price~ and ~Value for money~
Having not bought the product I do not know how much it cost, having researched however it seems as though the general price for a 50ml tub is £4.38 (Boots price) I have medium length (women's) hair and would use 0.5ml each time which is a price of £0.8 per use (rough figures so please do not take this as correct) Is this good value for money?! In theory as a hair product it is extreamly good value for money, for this product as you will see further on I do not rate this product so it is not good value.
~The smell~and~the look/feel of product~
The smell is very different from normal hair products, it still has a slight chemical smell but it is redeemed with a fairly sweet and fruity smell (I am rubbish describing smells). The look is white in the tub however when 'scooped' out of the tub it becomes slightly opaque. The feel of it is very creamy and upon just testing the feel it is very moisturising to the skin.
When using and wax or pomade's I generally use it to create a just got out of bed look and also to scrunch up hair to create volume. I find this product very disappointing as it does make hair extreamly greasy, being a beauty product tester I find it is vital to test out the product on different days as the versatility of skin, hair and scalp conditions change daily, however I have used this product around ten times now in differing seasons and I still find that this product is not very good for use on women's hair, it leaves hair looking greasy and weighing it down produces and limp look.
I would rate this product 1/5 the only benefit of this product is the smell, a disappointing result for such a costly product.. Please feel free to comment on anything you wish to know about the product but which I have not put in this review, I have tried to write about everything I would wish to know but a few things may have escaped my mind.
I have tried a wide range of different waxes, gels and hairstyling products over the years and have finally settled on Black and White Hair Dressing Pomade for my hair. I have shortish hair with the front and top sticking up/messy and I find that black and white is ideal for my style. The wax is clear in colour and has a pleasant smell compared with a lot of other products I have used.
I always opt for the 200ml tub for one it is the cheapest way of buying it and two I find it lasts absolutely ages. I buy it from ebay and pick up the 200ml tub for around £4.99 which is a bargain when you look at the small tub in boots which costs about £6. I also have a number of the smaller tubs which I have kept and refill from the large tub as I like to have one in my gym bag and one in my travel bag for work.
The pomade is easy to apply, just add a small amount to your hands and rub in your hair; you do not need to use a lot to get the desired effect. Once rubbed into your hair it is easy to style how you like it. I really like this stuff as like a lot of other products it does not make my hair go hard or look wet and greasy. The wax does not come off on my clothes when I take them off and I find that one application keeps my hair in place all day. I have tried a lot of other styling products which make my hair go hard which I do not like.
This is certainly a product I recommend and my brothers have both switched to Black and White on my recommendation. A good value and long lasting hair style product.
I am a barber so I like to think I know what I am talking about when it comes to mens hair products, Black and White is a hair pomade, it is a thick off white colour slightly resembling vaseline in the tub it has a lovely fresh tropical/coconut smell.
The best way to apply it is to put a 20 pence peice size dollop onto the palm of your hands and rub your hands together to warm it up then rub your hands through your hair vigorously this will ensure even coverage and stop any clogs or lumps of the product, you can then style your hair with a brush, comb or fingers depending on what overall look you want. As black and white is quite a textured product it is great for messy do's.
After applying you will find your hair looks healthier as it gives it a good shine and it will stay in place all day long, even if you are running your hands through it.
Black and white also has the advantage of helping to cover those small greys all of my customers comment that their grey hairs are less noticable when wearing black and white.
A great product I use it on customers all day every day have not found a product yet to rival it. Plus it smells gorgeous!
After using if you do not wash it out it can feel a bit claggy and thick but it washes out well, a good tip is once a week wash your hair with shampoo without wetting it first, put the shampoo onto dry hair rub in well and then rinse, then wash your hair as normal this will remove any products you have used.
This review is based on a product that my fiancé uses so will be talking about what he thinks about the product as well as what I think.
Tom uses Black & White Hair Dressing Pomade around once a week and this is something that he tends to save for a special occasion such as going out for a night out or a meal etc as it's a little expensive for what it is and he doesn't want to use it everyday.
Black & White is provided in either a tub (as shown on Dooyoo) or in a tube (which is what Tom has). It is clear in colour and is fairly thick, it has it's own unique smell and it's very difficult to put my finger on exactly what the scent is, however, I know that it smells gorgeous and I just love to run my hands through his hair when he has been using it. It is very simple to use, just squeeze some out and then apply it to your hair using it to style as you like. It tends to last for a good day/evening when used first thing in the morning and the style always remains in place even after a little feel from me here and there! It does make his hair feel a little greasy the next morning and it can be a little flaky after it's been on his hair for a whole day and night but this is easily rectified by Tom washing his hair.
It is available from Boots for £4.29 for a 50ml pot and this should last quite a few weeks even with daily use. I would definitely recommend this as it is a fantastic styling product for men or ladies with shorter hair as it has a delicious scent to it and people always seem to be commenting about Tom's hair looking great when he's wearing it and ask him if he wearing Black & Whites so it clearly is quite a unique scent. I am therefore rating this 5/5.
