Advantages: Protects hair, smells great, helps with frizz

Disadvantages: Not so sure it works when blow drying, ingredients don't look as natural as they make out

I have to admit, I blow dry and straighten my hair far too much. Until about a year ago, I hadn't thought about protecting my hair. In fact, I probably wasn't even aware such products existed.

I began using a trial size spray of Nicky Clarke as I had received it free from Boots, but wasn't impressed and I had assumed that all these kinds of products would be the same, so didn't bother trying any others. That was until a few months ago, when I was buying a hair mask for £4.99 and noticed that I could get something else for 1p in a 2 for £5 offer they had on. I chose this Botanics Hair Heat Protection Mist as my 1p item and couldn't wait to see if it was better than the Nicky Clarke one.

** Packaging **

The mist comes in a 150ml green pump bottle. The label has all the essential information (included at the end of this review). As well as informing us that it has active plant extracts, it claims to protect hair from heat damage and tells us that Green Tea protects.

** My Opinion **

I have mixed views about this product. I do love it, the smell is amazing, like melon, and it doesn't leave your hair heavy or greasy like a lot of these types of product do.

The instructions are a bit unclear to me if you want to blow dry and then straighten your hair (as I do 99% of the time). The label states to spray on to damp hair prior to blow drying, or dry hair prior to straightening. So, are you supposed to use it twice or will once suffice? Personally, I have gone with twice.

To be honest, I don't notice any difference when drying my hair. It certainly doesn't do any damage, but I don't see any improvement to frizz or anything like that. The only thing it does do is slightly fragrance my hair. Although this isn't to say that it isn't working away in the background protecting your hair without making it blatantly obvious, however, I do like to see results when I use a product like this.

The first time I used this mist to straighten my hair, I followed the instructions completely "spray onto sections of dry hair, then iron". My hair sizzled! Obviously this was due to the wet spray reacting with the hot straighteners. However, when your hair makes a noise like that and starts smokin', you know it's not good and I just couldn't do it to my hair any more. From the next use, I would spray lightly all over my whole head and wait a few minutes before straightening, to give it a chance to dry in a bit. This had much better results and doesn't feel nearly as damaging to the hair.

After straightening, my hair looks and feels just the same as it does if I straighten without the spray. The only slight difference is that the ends of my hair are not quite as frizzy as usual, which is always a bonus right?

So, in summary - It doesn't make a difference when blow drying, makes your hair fizzle and sizzle when the instructions are followed properly. It works well when sprayed all over prior to straightening and helps a little with frizzy ends. The added bonus is that it smells fantastic.

Would I recommend this? Hmmmm that's a tough one. If you can get it on offer, I would say give it a try. If you have to pay the full price of £3.99, I'd suggest you maybe look into other similar products before you decide to purchase this.
