Advantages: Moisturising and smells divine.
Disadvantages: None at all-not one!
Having read some really positive reviews for Boots Coconut and Almond Shampoo on Dooyoo I decided to try it to see if the shampoo was as good as it was being portrayed to be. At £1.26 I was delighted as it certainly is a good price if it works!
A few years back Sunsilk used to do a summer shampoo which had a beautiful coconut smell. This always used to remind me of holidays and being on the beach. Sadly it was discontinued, like so many other products I have fallen in love with over the years. However, this Boots alternative sounded ideal as the combination of coconut and almond together suggested holidays to me like nothing else.
I wanted to wait for a few days to try this out over several washes so that I could paint an accurate picture for you of the results. I often find with cheap shampoos that they are good for once, but then after subsequent uses they become drying and less effective, necessitating multiple half bottles in the bathroom waiting to be used up which I hate.
This bottle has recently been repackaged from the photo shown on Dooyoo and it is now in a more upright bottle. All credit to Boots for the superb label which has a piece of glistening coconut above a lovely fresh almond. It looks enticing and you can't wait to try it. Suitable for normal to dry hair this is perfect for me, as I have long highlighted and coloured hair, which sees rather a lot of my straighteners on a daily basis too.
The shampoo itself is easily dispensed through a flip top lid and it is clear, not milky, so that was a surprise. It lathers up beautifully and there is a wonderful smell of coconut as you use it. It was so lovely I actually left it on for a few minutes while soaking in the bath just to enjoy the smell which was luxurious enough to have come from a bottle 4 times the price or more. I did follow with the matching conditioner and towel dried my hair after rinsing.
This is where I always put my tangle comb to the test. If it runs straight through the hair easily without resistance then it is a great product and sure enough it did. I can honestly say that this has been a very impressive set of results for me. I have used this for a week each morning, and so far my hair is as soft as I have grown to expect with more expensive favourites such as Aussie, or slightly cheaper but also good Elvive with Royal Jelly. This beats them both on price though, and on smell I think on reflection it is my favourite-taking me to sand in between the toes on distant shores in moments.
Boots have really succeeded with this and I notice from their online site that there are many other items under this collective heading, including hand wash, and shower gels. I can't wait to buy these, and I also have the matching hair mask currently under trial in my bathroom and awaiting the final results.
This is a product which I can't recommend highly enough; it is a pleasure to use and is extremely budget friendly.
Summary: I wish I had seen this before because it saves a fortune.

- 02/04/09 i often find coconut based things too sickly a smell. shame, because often they have a real softening and moisturizing quality. |
