Boots Essentials Brown Hair Grips
Advantages: Good value - Well made - Work well..
Disadvantages: None for me!
I use hair grips regularly, and have an assortment of grips from a variety of retailers in my collection. The most recent addition to my assortment was purchased in a local branch of Boots, where I purchased a small card containing 30 individual grips from the "Boots Essentials" range. This purchase cost me only £1.49 at the time, which I thought offered good value for money.
The Boots Essentials Hair Grips are available in a choice of three shades, so you can choose which colour best matches your hair colour. The choices are Blonde, Black and the ones that I have which are Brown. I believe that the price is the same for the hair grips, irrespective of which colour choice is purchased.
The Boots grips have the same design as most other types I have purchased in the past, in that the underside of the grip is completely straight, with the top side of the grip featuring a kind of 'wavy' design. There are some small 'stoppers' on both of the grip's 'feet' and these are designed to protect the hair from the grip's edges which can be surprisingly sharp when pressed against the delicate scalp area.
In my experience, the Boots grips are extremely well made, as they do not bend or warp easily after a handful of uses, which can not be said of other, more cheaply-priced alternatives that bend ridiculously quickly, often after only one or two uses. The Boots grips, in comparison, will often keep their shape for several weeks before finally becoming warped by way of their 'sides' refusing to meet properly as before, with the gap between being too large to secure the hair adequately.
Further evidence of the Boots grips' robustness can be found easily at the tips of the metal 'feet' that are located at the end of the grip. Both feet are protected with a soft covering which is normal practice with any hair grip, in my experience. What I have found in the past with poorly-made hair grips, however, is that the soft covering can become easily removed from the ends of the grip and become tangled in my hair... not a particularly good look, and of course, this means that the grip is no longer equipped with any sort of protective covering, so the ends of the grip are easily able to scratch my scalp and cause painful 'snagging' of the hair when they are being placed in the hair. Thus, any such damage that occurs to hair grips and causes this damage renders the grips useless and they end up in the bin.
In comparison to this poor performance, the Boots grips have gone in the opposite direction, with the little protective coverings remaining securely intact throughout their use. I don't actually ever recall the little coverings becoming loose and ending up tangled in my hair, which is surprising, as this is such a common problem with alternative grips as I mentioned previously.
Instead, the only problem I have encountered is the gap between the grips sides becoming over-stretched so that the grip becomes rather unable to hold and secure hair adequately. This is something that occurs with any brand of hair grip over time in my experience, however, so I won't be deducting any points from the product rating for this. I also feel that the Boots grips last longer before this un-fixable flaw becomes apparent, so I do feel they are more robust than some of the other brands I have purchase recently.
In terms of matching my hair, I feel the Boots grips have a rather 'glossy' appearance to them which blends quite well with my (dyed) hair colour. They are not particularly noticeable in my opinion, and can be well camouflaged in my thick hair.
Overall, I don't have any complaints with the Boots Essentials Hair Grips and would happily recommend them for securing hair. I feel they are robust and well-made with them performing better than many alternatives that I have purchased in recent times. I think too that their purchase price offers good value for money and so I do feel the product deserves full marks in the product rating.
Summary: I will buy them again..!
