“ Brand: Boots / hair serum / Type: Hair Serum „
This serum is from the boots own range of products, and as I have had positive experiences before I thought I would give it a try. It was very inexpensive at £2 for a 60ml bottle which lasts me a good few months even with regular use. My hair is very frizzy, and often very difficult to control. I will try anything which makes my hair easier to style and so I had high hopes for this serum. I usually pay at least three times this for a similar size bottle so I was worried what the quality would be like. The serum comes in a pump style bottle so it is very easy to dispense. It has a simple push down system and a fair amount of product comes out of the top each time so that it is not messy to apply, but still provides enough for my hair with very little effort. The first thing that I noticed about this serum was that it is a lot thicker than others I have used. This usually results in heavy, greasy results so I was a little worried to see what the outcome would be.
**In use and results**
I have long hair but only try to apply small amounts to the roots, and the ends of my hair. These are the two main problem areas so I find usually a little help in these areas leaves my hair looking nice. As the serum is so thick I found it difficult to apply to my hair evenly. It does transfer on to the hair easily but I find I really have to brush through it to even it all out a little. It does feel a little heavy on my hair at first but once my hair begins to dry under the heat this seems to disappear. My hair feels softer, and I can notice a small difference in the ability to style my hair. There is a fine line between a nice shine to my hair and it just looking greasy. As the serum is thick I find it difficult to balance between the two.
My problem is I have lots of fly away ends so like to apply a little of the serum after I have finished styling. When I add even the smallest amount it sits strange in my hair. It does brush out a little better, but there is still a film over my hair. It is not incredibly noticeable from a glance, but while up close and running my hand through my hair I can feel the stickiness. This for me is what lets it down so I tend to just use it before I style rather than after. I now only use this while drying and straightening my hair and it does provide good results. It adds a healthy shine without making it look like my hair needs washed. It feels a lot softer without any kind of residue. Also I find that it does help with my frizzy hair a little. Through the day on occasions my hair would usually begin to puff out this does hold it back a little. Towards the end of the day it does seem to have less of an effect, but there is still a notable difference.
I just found this to be a little heavy for my hair. I like to apply a little before styling and after which resulted in my hair looking slightly greasy. If I used it just before styling my hair it did provide better results, taming the frizz a little but nothing overly impressive. It does not cost a fortune so it is worth buying to see if it suits your hair type as it may work differently depending on how much you apply. I like to apply a little before and after styling my hair which I felt is where the serum let me down. It sits on the hair rather heavy making it look tired and like it needs a wash. This is not something I would overly recommend, but it is a cheap alternative and I will finish the bottle I have at some point.
I take pride in the way my hair looks. I do not feel comfortable all day if it doesn't feel right or look nice. I colour my hair and have done for a good few years, mostly highlights now I am of my mature years. It does tend to be a little dry sometimes and my hairdresser advised me to use a serum to help soften it for when I blow dry it. I have bought quite a few over the years and this one is the latest one I bought to see if it was suitable for my hair.
It is one of Boots own brand of the essentials range. Very cheap and priced at just £2.03 for 60ml. For this price it was well worth a try. It comes in a transparent plastic bottle, the bottle has a pump dispenser and has a replaceable lid. The pump is very easy to press and release the serum.
The serum is a clear colour, I cannot detect any fragrance at all with this one. It does tell me on the bottle it is natural. It is a gel kind of liquid and one that is quite thick for the price. I was amazed how thick this was when I first started using it. Some cheaper ones can be a little thin but this one is quite a rich one. It has an extremely smooth and soft texture.
It is very easy to use and only a small amount is needed. Just a couple of pumps onto the fingertips and then just evenly glide it through damp hair after it has been towel dried. I find that I use a couple of pumps at a time for around 3 times and that is enough to cover my hair. I am currently trying to grow my hair a little longer and this amount is enough to give a even coverage over my hair. I use it mostly on the ends of my hair and where I place my Velcro rollers. I find the ends of my hair do become a little more drier than the rest of my hair.
Once on the hair it can be just styled in the usual way and I always use a hair mousse or another hair styling product on my hair straight after using this serum or any other serum. This one does soften the ends of the hair well for the cheaper price. I have found that as soon as I have applied it my hair has felt that little bit more softened. This feeling does feel really nice and my hair is more manageable for styling.
I really like this cheaper serum. It is good quality and super value for money. Although it is not a favourite of mine so far I think it is so affordable for anyone on a low budget or for teenagers first wanting to try serum for their hair.
I have found once my hair has been blow dried, it does feel nice and soft but not quite as soft as branded but that is reflected on the price in my opinion but I am still pleased I bought it to try.
The bottle is quite a big size and small enough to take on holiday or an overnight stay. It wouldn't take much room in a wash bag. The bottle is a little chunky but not too bulky. I think this one would last for a month or so with regular use. I have been using it for around 2 weeks or so and I am only half way through the bottle and that is using it once a day every day. So a lot of serum for this amount of money.
I would definitely recommend this one for anyone looking to buying a cheaper brand of hair serum. I have not been disappointed with this one at all and have been very pleased with the results and I would buy it again in the future but only if I was trying to save a little money.
It gives me all the results that I expect for a cheaper brand and my hair does look in a good condition since using it and it has not harmed my hair in any way. I just don't think you can go wrong with the price of this one or the results it give for the hair.
The bottle can easily be recycled after use too.
I give this one 5 stars.
