Advantages: Keeps hair in place, cheap, adds shine, brushes and washes out easily.
Disadvantages: Doesn't smell particularly nice.
Boots Essentials Maximum Hold Hairspray is available in two sizes: 450ml (£1.59) and 200ml (99p). The 200ml can would be ideal for travelling with. As they are Boots Essentials, they are cheaper than other brands of this type of product.
The product is attractive. It is a metallic blue colour, with a translucent white top/lid. "Hairspray" is written vertically in white on the can in bold, which helps to make the product very eye catching.
This product is used in the same way as the average hairspray: after styling, hold can 20-30cm from hair and spray evenly. As mine is unperfumed (I'm not sure if it is also available perfumed or not), the smell is basically just of solvents and alcohol, so it doesn't smell particularly pleasant. I would personally say a fragranced one would be nicer. It does leave hair looking shiny, but not greasy unless you put too much on. It does hold your hair firmly in place, and also brushes out reasonably easy. So it does live up to its promises.
The can is made of steel, meaning it is suitable for recycling.
As usual with aerosols, they are extremely flammable so you should take precautions such as not smoking during use. As they contain solvents, you should ensure you use it in a well ventilated area.
To conclude, this product is definitely worth £1.59 for 450ml. It does what it says on the tin - literally. The only downside is, mine being unperfumed, it leaves my hair smelling slightly of alcohol and solvents (but this smell does go away reasonably quickly).
Summary: I would recommend this product.
